Patent number: 4421058Abstract: This invention is concerned with devices for controlling movement of small animals, of the kind commonly known as "Cat Ports". The device is activated by an operating magnet worn by the small animal, which when the animal moves to pass through the device, closes a reed switch. The reed switch is adjustably pre-biased by a positionally adjustable permanent magnet, to afford the reed switch with a desired sensitivity, and a control circuit includes a re-setting coil to return the reed switch to its open position after a predetermined time interval. The device may readily be modified to control movement of animals in either, or both directions, to and from a designated area.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 1979Date of Patent: December 20, 1983Inventor: Graham R. Patent number: 4420450Abstract: A method of making leaf springs from fibre reinforced resin composite material, wherein a resin impregnated fibre assembly of a number of individual springs adjacent one another is moulded and treated to cure the resin and then cut into individual springs. The assembly is formed with depressions in the surface thereof along the lines where it is to be cut so the surface fibres remain undisplaced by the moulding process and hence undisturbed by cutting. The invention also provides a mould for treatment of the assembly of resin impregnated fibres including elements which form the surface depressions therein.Type: GrantFiled: March 16, 1982Date of Patent: December 13, 1983Assignee: GKN Technology LimitedInventor: Barry J. Patent number: 4418774Abstract: This apparatus is for use in measuring a weight, or force, and it is particularly useful as a scale. The apparatus includes a single vibrating wire and wire supports that rigidly clamp the two ends of the wire. A weight to be measured is applied to the wire in substantially the direction of its length, and the applied weight changes the tension in the wire. The apparatus includes a wire drive circuit that causes the wire to vibrate at essentially its natural resonant frequency. The frequency varies as a known cubic equation with respect to the applied weight, and a computer, operating in accordance with the equation, converts the measured frequency to a weight signal. The apparatus further includes vibration dampers and isolators for reducing the effects of sympathetic vibrations and of externally induced vibrations, and means to correct for external influences such as disturbing frequencies and ambient temperature.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 1981Date of Patent: December 6, 1983Assignee: Franklin Electric Co., Inc.Inventors: John A. Patent number: 4416756Abstract: An electrocoating apparatus located totally above a bath of electrolytic liquid and comprising a depletable anode roll having an outer layer of coating metal. Another roll is axially parallel to and vertically spaced from the anode roll. A closed loop of electrically insulative, porous mesh material extends around a portion of the peripheral surface of each roll to form the closed loop. A strip of metal is wrapped around a portion of the anode roll, with the porous mesh interposed between the strip's inner surface and the anode roll's peripheral surface. There is an upstream nip between the strip and the anode roll. The two rolls and the mesh loop are rotated, and the metal strip is advanced in a downstream direction, all at the same speed. Electrolytic liquid is introduced at the upstream nip and is retained between the anode roll and that part of the strip which is wrapped around the anode roll. Metal is coated on the inner surface of the strip, and the anode roll undergoes depletion.Type: GrantFiled: December 30, 1982Date of Patent: November 22, 1983Assignee: Inland Steel CompanyInventor: Frank A. Patent number: 4416611Abstract: This disclosure relates to a flue damper control including an automatic control and a manual override for use in the event of failure of certain parts. The control includes a first lever means connected to the damper for opening and closing the damper. An electric solenoid is connected in circuit with a furnace thermostat, and the solenoid is coupled by spring means to the first lever means. In automatic operation, when the thermostat calls for heat, the solenoid armature moves, and the first lever means is operated by the spring means coupling to move the damper to the open position. A return spring moves the damper to the closed position when the thermostat no longer calls for heat. The control further includes a first switch connected in circuit with a fuel control valve, which is actuated by the first switch means as it opens the damper.Type: GrantFiled: December 10, 1980Date of Patent: November 22, 1983Inventor: Joseph C.
