  • Patent number: 4407051
Abstract: An adjustable drapery support assembly comprises a vertical elongated base which can be attached at its lower end to the rear surface of a drapery at a point opposite a preformed pleat therein, with the upper end of the base adjacent the upper edge of the drapery. The base is provided at its upper end with a hinged clamping arm which engages the upper edge of the drapery, thereby inhibiting outward sagging of the top thereof. In a preferred embodiment, the clamping arm is provided with a plate member of limited vertical dimension adapted to enter the open end of the pleat, thereby maintaining the angular orientation thereof. The support assembly includes an adjustable hook assembly which can be attached at any desired point along the length of the base.

  • Patent number: 4407542
Abstract: A walk-over seat has a base with a pair of side members and a seat back which may be moved between the front and rear ends of the seat. The seat back is connected to the upper ends of two elongated links on each side of the seat back. Each link has a lower end mounted for pivotal movement about a horizontal axis between frontwardly and rearwardly extending positions. Each link is engaged by a respective latching member when the link is in one of its positions. Structure is provided to transfer to the side members of the seat the load exerted against a latching member by the link when the seat back is impacted or hit from behind, to prevent the latching member from being sprung or bent out of position. The latching member has a special configuration to accommodate differing dispositions and mountings of the latching member and the link it engages.

  • Patent number: 4406061
Abstract: A tubular cylindrical portion of a connection terminal is held between upper and lower dies by pressure applied using a multi-purpose actuator lever. An end portion of a coated or insulated wire is held between an insert slider and a holder and is advanced toward an open end of the cylindrical portion of the connection terminal, through the use of an insert lever. The core wire is pressed into the cylindrical portion while its surrounding insulation is compressed and pushed back by engagement with the end portion of the cylindrical portion. The multi-purpose actuator lever is moved to crimp the cylindrical portion on the core wire. Then, the actuator lever is turned to separate the upper and lower dies. The wire is then withdrawn and the compressed insulation is moved to cover the cylindrical portion.

  • Patent number: 4404857
Abstract: A portable seam tester is provided for testing the seam strength, on the job site, of large sections of flexible sheet material formed by seaming together smaller size panels. The tester has a piston and cylinder mechanism carrying spaced toggle action clamping means adapted to receive and retain folded double-thickness portions of the material at opposite sides of a seam. Pressurized fluid is controllably supplied to the cylinder to force the clamping means away from each other, thereby placing the material in tension so as to impose a predetermined stress on the seam.

  • Patent number: 4405600
Abstract: Cariogenic substances such as foodstuffs are treated to incorporate a soluble source of calcium or phosphate ions to provide a product of calcium and phosphate ion concentrations in fluids of salivary retention areas preclusive of carious dissolution of dental enamel. In non-aqueous foodstuffs, the calcium or phosphate ion source should be at least as rapidly soluble as cariogenic, e.g., carbohydrate, components therein. Also provided are mouth rinse solutions comprising a soluble source of calcium or phosphate ions and an osmotically active agent effective in delivering such ions to fluids trapped in salivary retention areas.

  • Patent number: 4405163
Abstract: A coupling for connecting the ends of medical apparatus tubes. The coupling has male and female conical mating elements on first and second end pieces. Each end piece is adapted to receive the end of a tube. The end pieces are locked together to prevent unintentional separation. Locking is achieved by at least one finger extending from one end piece to the other end piece. The finger, in addition to its locking function, resists tension when tensile stress is applied to a coupled tube.

  • Patent number: 4404633
Abstract: The present invention relates to a process and device for braking an aircraft taxiing on the ground after landing and comprising a plurality of braked wheels, by seeking a maximum coefficient of adherence between said braked wheels and the ground on which they roll, wherein said braking is subdivided into a plurality of successive braking periods and each of these periods is itself divided into a first phase during which a reference sliding value is imposed on each braked wheel and the optimal sliding value of the period is determined, and into a second phase during which said optimal sliding value is imposed on all said braked wheels. The invention is applicable to the automatic braking of aircraft.
