  • Patent number: 7839345
Abstract: A mounting apparatus for a top mount mast antenna includes a secondary part to stabilize the antenna attachment screws extending through the antenna base into the fender panel of the automotive vehicle on which the antenna is mounted. The secondary part is preferably formed of nylon to serve as a retaining device for the attachment screws so that the screws do not loosen, which ultimately causes separation of the antenna from the fender panel and a corresponding deformation of the fender panel. The secondary nylon part allows a flexible installation that can be accomplished before painting of the fender panel. The secondary part fits into the opening in the fender panel to mount on the peripheral circumference of the opening and extend outwardly form the opening below the fender panel to be positioned for engagement with the attachment screws connecting the base member of the antenna to the fender panel.

  • Patent number: 7832796
Abstract: A three-piece roof assembly is provided for racing cars in which the two side members are fixedly supported on the frame of the vehicle and the center member is positionable at a selectable canted angle relative to the side members. The center member is formed with laterally extended flanges that overlap the side members to maintain structural integrity between the center member and the respective side members. The canting of the center member creates a gap that varies in width from front to rear. The process for canting a race car roof is significantly simplified and involves fixing the side members to the frame of the vehicle, then positioning the center member at the desired angular orientation, and fixing the center member relative to the side members. The variable width gap between the center member and the side members can be filled with weld material and painted.

  • Patent number: 7758107
Abstract: A body side rail construction for an automotive vehicle is formed in a dual cell configuration. A reversed C-shaped channel is welded to the closed section of the conventional roof side rail member to enable the body side rail member to be a smaller section that is less susceptible to buckling as the body side rail member transfers load to the front and rear corner pillars. The C-shaped cross-sectional configuration presents advantages for manufacturing as it can be shaped to provide the attaching brackets and horns for mounting the front header, roof bow, and rear header members to the body side rail without the addition of individual end items to serve this function. From a shipping density standpoint, this design gives maximum structure while maintaining good rack density that enables relatively straight parts to be nested together while still providing the increased section strength required for enhanced roof performance.

  • Patent number: 7712495
Abstract: A wooden stake sharpening machine moves a conical cutting head along a linear path into engagement with a clamped wooden stake blank to affect sharpening thereof. A walking beam conveying apparatus moves a wooden stake blank into position from a supply bin where a clamping apparatus holds the stake blank in place while the cutting head moves onto the stake to form a point thereon. The drive mechanism moves the conveyor in coordination with the linear movement of the cutting apparatus, which trips a switch to actuate the clamping mechanism as the cutting head moves toward engagement with the stake blank. The conveyor then moves the sharpened stake toward a collection area while moving another stake blank into position for sharpening as the cutting apparatus is retracted away from the stake, thus providing an automated stake sharpening machine with a minimal number of moving parts.
