  • Patent number: 4511543
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for beneficiation of phosphate rock by a thermal treatment, wherein an appreciable increase in P.sub.2 O.sub.5 and decrease in cadmium contents in the calcined product are achieved. According to the invention, the phosphate rock is contacted with hot gases possessing a temperature in the range of between 700.degree. C. to 1600.degree. C. for a period of below 60 seconds and subsequently the fines are removed by a conventional classification method thus obtaining an up-graded phosphate product with a relatively low cadmium content. The up-graded phosphate product is also characterized by a relatively low sulfide content as well as low organic matter, which are very advantageous in the phosphoric acid manufacture therefrom. One of the advantages of the method is the almost complete recovery of the P.sub.2 O.sub.5 present in the phosphate rock since no slaking for calcium oxide removal is utilized.

  • Patent number: 4508460
Abstract: A process for continuously measuring the pour point of oil comprises introducing the oil into the lower portion of a substantially vertical tube at a pressure sufficient to cause the oil to move up the tube and subjecting the oil to a temperature gradient as it rises through the tube such that the oil is cooled in the lower portion of the tube to a temperature below the pour point and solidifies, and in the upper portion of the tube the temperature of the oil is raised so that the oil becomes liquid again thereby forming a solid/liquid interface in the tube. A temperature sensing means which is axially moveable in the tube is arranged to rest at the solid/liquid interface and provides a continuous signal, representing the pour point of the oil sample at the interface to a measuring and/or recording device. The invention also includes apparatus for carrying out the process.

  • Patent number: 4508656
Abstract: The application relates to a process for synthesizing carbonic allyl esters from polyhydric alcohols, which are reacted with diallyl carbonate in the presence of a basic catalyst, which can be chosen from sodium hydroxide, sodium carbonate, sodium alcoholate, organic bases or basic ion exchange resins. The final products obtained differ according to the ratio of the components of the starting mixture. Thus, in the case of diols with a diallyl carbonate/diol ratio greater than or equal to 10, the resultant product is constituted by the bis allyl carbonate of the diol together with a quantity of less than or equal to 10% of oligomers represented mainly by dimers. If the ratio is less than 10, the percentage of oligomers rises until, in the case of an approximately stoichiometric ratio, it reaches a value close to 70% of the reaction product.

  • Patent number: 4508988
Abstract: In a permanent magnet commutator type D.C. servomotor having a wound iron core armature and a permanent magnet stator, the stator includes a uniquely formed annular yoke. The unique yoke includes a central opening and a plurality of permanent magnet pole pieces, which are securely held to arcuate magnetic material projecting into the opening and which are spaced equally from and about the axis of the yoke. The magnets and arcuate magnetic material form boundaries to accommodate the armature and also form a relieved area between the magnets designed for reduced field distortion. The radial thickness of the magnet pole pieces, the arcuate members of magnetic material and the radial thickness of the yoke are proportioned relative to each other and to the I.D. of the pole pieces at prescribed values to maximize the motor performance.

  • Patent number: 4503788
Abstract: A translaminar stitching module is disclosed for stitching complex airframe details comprised of composite materials. The stitching module is self-digitizing, microprocessor controlled, and has six degrees of motion which allow the module to stitch along straight, bowed, twisted and highly contoured paths. During the stitching operation positioning is controlled by a microprocessor by controlling movement along five of the module's six axes through the use of encoder feedback. Upon receipt of the encoded data a microprocessor interpolates between selected coordinate point inputs and inserts the required stitch pitch for proper movement along the stitching path.
