  • Patent number: 7899996
Abstract: Adaptively pre-fetching data includes collecting a first set of statistics based on a number of avoidable read-misses in which data exists that is prior to data being read, collecting a second set of statistics based on a number of avoidable read-misses in which data exists that follows data being read, and collecting a third set of statistics based on said first and second sets of statistics. On the basis of the second set of statistics, a pre-fetch technique is selected from a first technique that pre-fetches data following data being read and a second technique that pre-fetches data before and following the data being read. The first and third set of statistics may be used to determine when to pre-fetch data.

  • Patent number: 7898204
Abstract: A mechanism for manipulation of a substrate over a substantially planar region has at least three, and up to six, degrees of freedom (DOF). The mechanism may be manufactured in various configurations, including triangular, and may use inherent symmetry to reduce the number of distinct components that must be manufactured. The mechanism may use parallelism to reduce the moving mass and thereby achieve higher levels of performance using less expensive motors while dissipating less power.

  • Patent number: 7890459
Abstract: Non-disruptive modification of data in-place includes generating a copy of source data to a holding area. Data modification, such as encryption and/or other transformation process, may be performed on the source data in the source area while I/O operations of applications needing access to the source data is diverted to the data copy in the holding area. Updates to the data copy in the holding area from the continued I/O operations are tracked and the data updates are modified and transferred to the source area. Following successful modification of the source data, the I/O operations of the applications are re-directed back to the source area having the newly modified source data. The holding area may then be freed for subsequent use.

  • Patent number: 7885276
Abstract: Managing data in a server system includes providing a plurality of servers, each having an internal gateway/switch that is accessible from outside the server, providing a plurality of virtual servers on at least some of the servers, where each of the virtual servers is accessible by the internal gateway/switch of the corresponding server, and accessing the data using the internal gateway/switch, where the internal gateway/switch determines which particular one of the virtual servers contain the data and then accesses the particular virtual server to provide the data. Managing data in a server system may also include associating portions of the data to tenants of the server system. Each of the servers may maintain a table that correlates tenants with the virtual servers maintained thereby and the internal gateway/switch may use the table to determine which particular one of the virtual servers contains data for a particular tenant.

  • Patent number: 7873791
Abstract: A cache management system and method monitors and controls the contents of cache memory coupled to at least one host and at least one data storage device where data-units are prefetched and stored into a cache memory in a data-set format, comprising the data-units and meta-data associated with the data units. The meta-data contain time stamp information encoded with information whether the cached prefetched information is available for reuse by additional prefetched data. Prefetched data-units are controlled by executing a first prefetch task to prefetch a first prefetch series of data-units from off-cache. A first prefetch operation is executed to prefetch and store a first selected set of data units. The prefetch task contains three dedicated pointers into cache memory.

  • Patent number: 7854175
Abstract: An apparatus for measuring the velocity of a fluid flow provides electrical charge carriers that are emitted into the fluid flow from an emitter electrode, and wherein an electrical signal caused by this is measured at a sensor electrode. The projection of the envelope of the cross-sectional area of that part of the sensor electrode which projects into the fluid flow into the cross-sectional plane of the fluid flow is small in comparison with the cross-sectional area of the fluid flow at this point, if present at all. The measured current of the sensor electrode is used to serve as a characterizing feature of the velocity of the fluid flow in accordance with a defined allocation function. The measurement method has virtually no delay and can be used in a high temperature and velocity range.

  • Patent number: 7846830
Abstract: The objects of the present invention is to improve the impact resistance of the semiconductor device against the impact from the top surface direction, to improve the corrosion resistance of the surface of the top layer interconnect, to inhibit the crack occurred in the upper layer of the interconnect layer when the surface of the electrode pad is poked with the probe during the non-defective/defective screening, and to prevent the corrosion of the interconnect layer when the surface of electrode pad is poked with the probe during the non-defective/defective screening. A Ti film 116, a TiN film 115 and a pad metal film 117 are formed in this sequence on the upper surface of a Cu interconnect 112. The thermal annealing process is conducted within an inert gas atmosphere to form a Ti—Cu layer 113, and thereafter a polyimide film 118 is formed, and then a cover through hole is provided thereon to expose the surface of the pad metal film 117, and finally a solder ball 120 is joined thereto.
