  • Patent number: 8046545
Abstract: Providing continuous backup of a storage device includes subdividing the storage device into subsections, providing a time indicator that is modified periodically, and, in response to a request to write new data to a particular subsection of the storage device at a particular time, maintaining data being overwritten by the new data according to the particular subsection and according to a value of the indicator at the particular time. The subsections may be tracks. Maintaining the data being overwritten may include constructing a linked list of portions of data for each of the subsections. The portions of data may have variable sizes. In response to two data write operations to a particular subsection at a particular value of the indicator, data being written for each of the two data write operations may be combined if data for the second data write operation is a subset of data for the first data write operation.

  • Patent number: 8042032
Abstract: A novel method to divide the whole decoding process of the Viterbi decoder into four pipeline stages and the Viterbi decoder therefore. With an appropriate choice on the system clock, the invention trade-off the decoding speed with the hardware cost so that the designed Viterbi decoder is able to satisfy the decoding speed requirement for the highest speed profile in VDSL2 systems, 30 MHz profile. At the same time, with four-stage pipeline to just enough to meet the speed requirement, the hardware cost for the new designed Viterbi decoder is reduced compared with single-staged decoding.

  • Patent number: 8028110
Abstract: Transferring I/O from a first storage device coupled to a storage area network to a second storage device coupled to the storage area network includes blocking I/O operations for a first port of the first storage device coupled to the storage area network, where the first port is associated with an identifier, coupling the second storage device to the storage area network via a port associated with the identifier and reestablishing a connection between the host and the first port to cause I/O operations by the host to be routed to the second storage device. Transferring may also include, following blocking I/O operations for the first port of the first storage device, coupling a second port of the first storage device to the storage area network and migrating data from the first storage device to the second storage device through the second port of the first storage device without host/application disruption.

  • Patent number: 8028062
Abstract: A system creates a storage area network (SAN) centric storage virtualization layer in front of storage devices. The system allows data mobility and migration without disruption to the one or more host servers attached to the SAN. Specifically, the host servers are not disrupted when switching I/Os between physical and virtual storage, for example, by taking advantage of WWPN spoofing and Fibre Channel VSAN technology. The use of VSANs effectively allow multiple virtual directors and/or switches to be created within a physical director and/or switches, each with their own separate name server, thereby providing complete isolation from one another. The host-storage pathing information is unchanged as the original physical storage port's WWPNs are spoofed by the virtual storage port. The result is two identical WWPNs within the SAN which is normally disallowed; however, by separating the physical port WWPN into one VSAN and the virtual port WWPN into another, the restriction may be circumvented.

Abstract: Described are techniques for managing a wait queue in a system. A plurality of buckets associated with the wait queue are defined. Each of the plurality of buckets is associated with one of more queue depth values and one or more counters. For each received request for service, a current depth of the wait queue indicating a number of other requests included in the wait queue waiting to be serviced is determined, a bucket in accordance with the current depth of the wait queue is selected and information is recorded by updating said one or more counters of the bucket selected. The received request is placed in the wait queue if there is another request currently being serviced or if there is at least one other request currently in the wait queue.
