  • Patent number: 8286367
Abstract: A system for continuous (re-)drying of wood pieces. A conveyor arrangement receives and carries the wood pieces in file following a course. A moisture content of each wood piece travelling on the conveyor arrangement is measured during the course. The wood pieces whose measured moisture content are above a target content are diverted towards a drying equipment, in particular by high-frequency, whereas the other wood pieces continue their course on the conveyor arrangement. The drying equipment removes a moisture portion from the diverted wood pieces. The moisture contents of the processed wood pieces are again measured. The pieces whose moisture content dropped below the target content are routed towards the conveyor arrangement whereas the other pieces are routed in the drying equipment for a re-drying.

  • Patent number: 8269503
Abstract: A method of locating a fault on an electrical network energized by a source uses a form of triangulation of voltage measurements at at least three different locations on the network, with at least one of the locations situated upstream from the fault with respect to the source. Voltage phasors corresponding to the voltages measured during the fault are time synchronized. Conductors of the network involved in the fault are determined as a function of characteristics of the voltage phasors and a fault current causing a voltage drop at one of the locations with respect to an initial voltage value is evaluated. A position of the fault is evaluated at a point of the network where a ratio between a difference of the voltages measured at two of the locations and an impedance between one of the two locations and the point is equal to the fault current.

  • Patent number: 8250257
Abstract: Described are techniques for performing I/O operations. A graph is received including a plurality of nodes and edges. The graph includes a first level with a root node and one or more other levels of nodes. Each edge has a value indicating an I/O load metric. A thread associated with a first node determines whether to perform a background I/O operation directed to a first device and having a first priority. The first priority is compared to a first value of an I/O load metric. The first value is determined in accordance with criteria including a maximum usage of an I/O buffer of the first device and priorities of other I/O operations directed to the first device. If it is determined that the background I/O operation is to be performed, the background I/O operation is forwarded for processing on an I/O path having a corresponding path in the graph.

  • Patent number: 8250033
Abstract: A replication process using snapshots to maintain information regarding changes made to a production data set following a point in time. In some embodiments, the production data set may be a file system and the snapshot may store information relating to changes made to both previously-allocated and newly-allocated data blocks. When a change is made to a previously-allocated data block, the original contents for the data block may be copied to a save volume prior to being overwritten by the new data, while for a newly-allocated data block no data may be copied to the save volume. An entry may also be created in a map identifying each changed data block. A replication process may then read the block map to identify data blocks storing new data to should be replicated to a replication data set, such that the replication data set remains a copy of the production data set.

  • Patent number: 8250035
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention relate to maintaining reference counts in a file system to track when a block is available to be freed. When a snapshot copy of a file is created, rather than copying all the blocks of the file for the snapshot copy, the snapshot inode is given pointers to the blocks of the file. Rather than updating the reference counts for all these blocks to indicate that they are now in use by more than one file, the update of reference counts for at least some of these blocks may be deferred until a later time.
