  • Patent number: 4140709
Abstract: 6-Hydroxyhexyl perfluoroisopropyl ether is prepared by reaction of hexafluoroacetone and potassium fluoride to obtain an alcoholate which is then reacted with 1-chloro-6-hexanol. One mole of the ether may be reacted with about 1 mole to about 20 moles of ethylene oxide to produce a hydroxyethyl ether. One mole of 2,2,3,4,4,4-hexafluorobutanol may be reacted with from about 1 to about 5 moles of propylene oxide to produce a hydroxypropyl ether. One mole of hexafluorobutanol may also be reacted with about 1 to about 5 moles of propylene oxide and then about 1 mole to about 20 moles of ethylene oxide to produce a hydroxyethyl ether. The hydroxyhexyl ether, hydroxylpropyl ether and both hydroxyethyl ethers may be sulfated to produce anionic surfactants which are useful as antistatic agents and lubricants for polymeric shapes such as nylon films and filaments.

  • Patent number: 4128398
Abstract: A processing aid is used to improve worsted and woolen processes. In the worsted process, pretreatment of wool tops with the processing aid prior to dyeing preserves fiber strength and softness. In the woolen process, addition of the processing aid to the carbonizing bath permits reduction in sulfuric acid concentration, enhances destruction of vegetable matter, and produces whiter, cleaner fiber and preserves fiber strength. If desired, the processing aid may also be introduced in the final rinse after wool scouring in either worsted or woolen processes. The preferred processing agent is epoxidized chain extended polyamide.

  • Patent number: 4049668
Abstract: Cationic fluorochemical surfactants useful as antistatic agents and lubricants for polymeric shapes are prepared from 2,2,3,4,4,4-hexafluorobutanol or perfluorobutyric acid. Hexafluorobutanol is reacted with bromoundecanoic acid to obtain a bromoester which is then reacted with pyridine to obtain a cationic surfactant. Perfluorobutyric acid is esterified with methanol to obtain methyl perfluorobutyrate which is then reacted with dimethylaminopropylamine to obtain an amino-amide which is then reacted with hydrogen peroxide to obtain the N-oxide derivative which is neutralized with glycolic acid to obtain a cationic surfactant, a salt of the N-oxide derivative.

  • Patent number: 3970620
Abstract: Polyvinylchloride foam compositions are prepared by frothing. To prepare the compositions for frothing, the silicone surfactant frothing agents present are extended with oleophilic frothing aids which do not significantly detract from the hydrophobic and flame retardant properties of the foam. Further, the frothing aids may be used to control froth viscosity. From about 5.0 phr to about 10.0 phr of a frothing aid is added to about 2.0 phr to about 4.0 phr of the frothing agent present in the composition. Simple and complex organic phosphate and phosphite esters; organic nirogen compounds such as amines, aminoamides, alkanolamides, imidazolines, quaternaries, and nirogen-sulfur compounds; simple and complex organic borate esters such as 2-ethyl-hexyl borate, trihexylene glycol biborate, and tricresyl borate are useful as frothing aids.
