  • Patent number: 8293477
Abstract: This invention demonstrates that KRC molecules have multiple important functions as modulating agents in regulating a wide variety of cellular processes including bone formation and mineralization. TGF-? signaling in osteoblasts promotes the formation of a multimeric complex between KRC, Runx2, Smad3, and the E3 ubiquitin ligase, WWP1 which inhibits Runx2 function due to the ability of WWP1 to promote Runx2 polyubiquitination and proteasome-dependent degradation. Furthermore, KRC and WWP1 form a complex with RSK2 which promotes RSK2 phosphorylation and inhibits RSK2 function due to the ability of WWP 1 to promote RSK2 ubiquitination. Methods for identifying modulators of KRC activity are provided. Methods for modulating an immune response, bone formation and mineralization, and KRC-associated disorders using agents that modulate KRC expression and/or activity are also provided.

  • Patent number: 8291928
Abstract: A vacuum-actuated shear valve coupled between piping from a storage tank and piping internal to a fuel dispenser that automatically opens and closes in response to a vacuum level. A vacuum actuator is provided to control a fuel flow valve inside the shear valve. When a sufficient vacuum level is generated to the vacuum actuator, the actuator keeps the flow path valve inside the shear valve open. When the vacuum is lost, the vacuum actuator releases the flow path valve inside the shear valve, which closes it. The vacuum actuator is coupled to a secondary containment space of a fuel-handling component that is drawn under a vacuum level by a vacuum-generating source to monitor for leaks. Thus, if a leak occurs in the monitored secondarily contained space, the shear valve is automatically closed to prevent the flow of fuel from continuing to be supplied to the source of the leak.

  • Patent number: 8295847
Abstract: The present invention relates to a stationary user detecting system and method and a call admission control method using the same in a wireless communication system. A plurality of base stations located in the wireless Internet system detect a stationary user at regular time intervals and maintain it by a predetermined number of cases for each terminal. Information on the maintained stationary user is recalculated with a stationary probability for each base station so as to be used for call admission control. Therefore, the terminal of the stationary user detected in the wireless Internet system is calculated with the stationary probability value, which is applied to the call admission control, thereby minimizing reservation of undesired resources.
