Abstract: This invention relates to cast iron and more particularly to the improvement in the toughness and abrasive resistance of white cast iron along with a significant increase in tensile strength. More specifically, the present invention relates to a new white cast iron composition and a process for producing such cast iron having improved toughness, ductility and tensile strength while retaining desirable abrasive resistance through modification of the carbide morphology.
Abstract: Device for cutting through the heel joint of the leg of slaughtered poultry which is supplied hanging by this leg, comprising a stop which is at an angle to the feed direction and an elongate cutting knife which reaches beyond the stop and is rotatably driven around an axis of rotation located in the feed direction in front, and sideways of the stop.
Abstract: A self-contained, hand held and operated exerciser for the hand, wrist, arm, shoulder, chest and back muscles is disclosed. A pair of spaced parallel handles having freely rotatable gripping pads are biased apart by main torsion springs anchored to the handles near their ends. The main torsion springs are restrained by substantially rigid keepers and allow lateral displacement of the handles toward and away from each other over a limited distance during use of the exerciser. Supplemental torsion springs increasing the ability of the exerciser to resist forces exerted on it are conveniently installed and removed without the necessity for fastener elements or the use of tools.
Abstract: An apparatus designed to facilitate the unrolling of baled hay has a main frame mounted onto a tractor or other vehicle. An upstanding arm attached to the frame carries a hydraulic cylinder and piston assembly, which assembly supports and selectively positions an axle and wheel. The axle is positioned so that the wheel contacts a tire of a vehicle. As the vehicle causes the tire to rotate, the wheel is also rotated but in the opposite direction from that of the tire. The wheel is driven by the vehicle against a rolled bale of hay. As the vehicle is driven, the wheel abuts the bale of hay and causes it to unroll.
Abstract: A laterally shiftable needle bar of a tufting machine, carrying a plurality of laterally spaced needles, is reciprocated in a vertical path for simultaneously inserting loops of yarn, carried by the needles, through a base fabric, the fabric being fed in a linear longitudinal path beneath the needles. Each needle has an individual looper below the base fabric, in registery and cooperating with the needle for engaging and temporarily holding the loop of yarn, inserted by the needle through the base fabric, as the needle is retracted.During a first portion of a cycle of the needle bar, prior to the insertion of the needles through the base fabric, a needle bar shifting assembly shifts the needle bar laterally, in one direction or the other.
Abstract: A variable volume carrying case of diverse utility includes hinged companion sections each having relatively movable telescoping portions whereby each case section can be expanded or reduced in size. An independent push-pull cable drive system for the expansion and reduction of each case section includes a rotary manual drive device having a connection with each push-pull cable of the system.
Abstract: The top of the sock is formed of a welt and then three successive rolled stripe increments formed of stripe yarn of different colors and an elastic yarn which is laid in continuously throughout the length of the top. All three striped increments are connected at about a common location to the upper portion of the body by lock stitches.
Abstract: A monodisperse aerosol generator forms a stable jet of liquid at a velocity allowing columnar breakup into droplets of uniform size and spacing. To prevent degradation of the monodisperse aerosol, it is dispersed by entrainment in a high velocity gaseous stream. To provide an interface for direct injection into a mass spectrometer or to interface a liquid chromatograph with a mass spectrometer, the generator is followed by a desolvation chamber operating at about atmospheric pressure and a multistage pressure reducer which evacuates solvent vapor and gaseous medium to form a high momentum, solvent-depleted solute aerosol beam which is input into the mass spectrometer.
Abstract: A system for identification and quantification of electrochemically active compounds in a flow stream involves stepping the electrode potential in a detector rapidly through the range of interest with a square wave superimposed on a staircase signal and recording the current response as functions of step number and sweep number, i.e., as functions of voltage and time. From the recorded data, a three-dimensional graph (potential, time and current) is structured and from which identification and quantification of the electrochemically active compounds is effected with minimum expenditure of time. The system includes a potentiostat controlled by a computer with, however, independent logic control contained in the potentiostat. Provision is also made to compensate automatically for variations in resistance between the cell electrodes.
Abstract: A burner element for gas fired barbecue grills of varying designs and styles is rendered universal in its applicability to such grills by the provision therein of gas/air inlet openings in varied arrangements to enable connection of the burner element to flexible length adjustable venturi tubes in different modes of use, such as in a bent extended mode or a straight foreshortened mode. Inactive gas/air inlet openings of the burner element are covered during non-use. A burner system is provided which is compatible with grills having either post mounted or panel mounted burner controls.
Abstract: A modular tray assembly including a first modular tray member having side wall members, a top wall member, and a bottom wall member. Secured to at least two side wall members are block bracket members that are used to support adjacent modular tray members having side, bottom, and top wall members. Each of the side wall members of the adjacent modular tray members has a channel bracket support member that engages the associated corresponding block bracket member of the first modular tray member. The bottom wall member of the first modular tray member has a planar support bracket member vertically extending therefrom which has a bracket member having a cylindrical opening at the distal end thereof. A cylindrical support member is received through the cylindrical opening and also by a circular opening in a bracket member secured to one of the side wall members of the first modular tray member for supporting the tray assembly.

Abstract: A one-piece outlet tube for joining the flat bottom wall of a metal gutter with a vertical downspout is formed from an initially flat blank. A continuous flat support flange extends around the margin of the gutter outlet tube at its upper end and rests upon the gutter flat bottom wall adjacent to an opening provided in this wall to receive the outlet tube. Integral outwardly struck downwardly tapering lock lugs are formed on the four side walls of the outlet tube closely beneath the flat flange for secure locking engagement beneath the gutter flat bottom wall when the outlet tube is inserted downwardly through the opening of this wall. The outlet tube is sealed with the gutter flat bottom wall around its support flange.
Abstract: An electric trolling motor is remotely controlled by a hand held or foot operated radiant energy transmitter coacting with a receiver, the trolling motor and a turning or directional motor connected through gearing with a trolling motor support shaft. The trolling motor can operate in a straightaway propulsion mode or in left hand or right hand directional turning modes, all remotely controlled. The fisherman is free to occupy the bow of the boat during fishing activities while remotely controlling the trolling motor at the stern.
Abstract: A group of knives for a cut pile tufting machine are preassembled in a knife holder carried by a bracket, as the bracket is held in a jig. The bracket is then removed from the jig and inserted into one of a plurality of transverse parallel angling slots in a carrier member of the machine, the knives and bracket being moved in a linear path until a stop on the bracket engages the carrier member to indicate that the knives are in proper position for cutting action with respect to their loopers.
Abstract: The modular components of an orthopedic leg brace assembly are strung together in bead-like fashion on a flexible cable arrangement and the components are removable so that they may be unstrung and replaced for repair or for replacement with longer components to accommodate for a user's growth. The components include an ankle-foot orthosis and upwardly extending side braces of stanchion form with an upper securing strap arrangement for securely surrounding a user's lower leg, a second pair of side braces of stanchion form with an upper securing strap arrangement for securely surrounding a user's thigh, and knee joint assemblies joining the ends of the braces to simulate the normal action of a user's knee during flexion and extension of the leg. The flexible cable arrangement allows the user to rigidly hold the entire unit in aligned, fixed relation when the leg is extended.
Abstract: A mechanized ball includes a hollow sphere having a removable hatch through which a powered ball driving unit can be placed within the sphere and removed therefrom. The ball driving unit can be electrically or mechanically powered and may be in the form of a single powered driving wheel or a self-contained four wheeled toy vehicle. The vehicle may be guided within the ball by a strut and/or a spring device which contacts an interior part of the ball. In some species the ball may be steered by a weight which is moved back and forth along a dual helical groove on a diametral support from which a single powered drive wheel is suspended.
