Abstract: A centrifugal pump for pumping slurries and other abrasive liquids having an axial inlet and a circumferential outlet, an impeller rotating within a housing and a suction liner secured to the housing wherein the impeller has a radial nose projecting toward the suction liner, a wear ring providing a complementary confronting surface axially spaced from said impeller and positioned as a part of a spool piece within the suction liner. The spool piece also includes a control means connected to the wear ring to move the wear ring surface axially toward and away from the impeller nose to maintain a preselected clearance therebetween to offset the abrasive wear occurring due to the pumping of the slurry.

Abstract: A decorating material dispensing machine having a pump and maniford disposed within a heating chamber for supplying decorating material, such as chocolate or the like, from a reservoir tank to one or a plurality of nozzles. A pressure gauge, thermometer and window permit monitoring of the operation of the dispenser. An adjustable valve determines the back pressure and therefore delivery pressure of the system and a thermostatic dial, the temperature of the chamber.

Abstract: A device for separating the gizzard from the connected entrails of slaughtered poultry comprising an inlet, two oblong cylindrical parallel rotating transport elements and a gizzard separating device, the first element with a helical transport ribbon along its circumference and the second element with at least one row of longitudinal short ribs projecting from the surface and fitting between the screw ribbon of the first element.

Abstract: A large rectangular sheet is subdivided into successive sheets joined along common fold line edges to produce an accordian, folded book in which pairs of the smaller sheets form successive pages and the successive pages are joined side-by-side by the successive fold lines. A binder joins the rear fold line edges of the sheets together and a perforation line extending parallel to the upper and lower edges of each of the sheets provides a means by which the book can be torn in two. Instruction indecia are placed in the upper panels and the lower panels of each sheet are blank so that a child may illustrate the instructions on these blank panels.

Abstract: A combined automotive vehicle heating and cooling system utilizes the existing heating coil and blower inside of the passenger compartment and utilizes the engine coolant circulated by the existing engine driven coolant pump in both the heating and air conditioning modes. An absorption refrigeration system external to the passenger compartment utilizes waste heat from the engine coolant normally dissipated by the engine coolant system radiator. The same coolant pump circulates hot engine coolant through a generator of the absorption refrigeration system to provide energy for the refrigeration cycle without the necessity for a compressor and associated devices. Engine loading by the refrigeration system is substantially eliminated. The refrigeration system operates adequately to provide air conditioning even at slow engine idling.

Abstract: A knock-down low cost stable support structure for a lawn sprinkler head consists of a standpipe whose upper end is connected to the sprinkler head and whose lower end is connected to a garden hose, and a tripod stand supporting the standpipe. The stand includes separable legs secured by fasteners which also engage supporting brackets on the standpipe.

Abstract: A power transfer pipe, surrounded by an elastomeric, self lubricating seal assembly, transfers rotational power in one direction from a prime mover, at the upper end of the power transfer pipe, to a threadedly secured, hollow, drill pipe at the lower end, the seal assembly directs fluid from the sleeve into the drill pipe. A ratchet assembly at the upper end of the power transfer pipe, facilitates the disengagement of the power transfer pipe from the drill pipe.

Abstract: A device is disclosed for calibrating the height of a blade above a blade drum surface of a blade drum on a machine comprising a base section, an upper section with a notched opening, a stabilizing apparatus securing the base section to the machine, an adjustable electrical contact projecting through the upper section into the notched opening, and electrical indication circuitry which is operative when the blade contacts the adjustable electrical contact.

Abstract: The top, flashing lights and steady-burning side lights placed on an elevated obstruction to warn aircraft are monitored by a failure-detecting circuit. The circuit includes circuit components which detect and indicate the failure of either or both top lights, the latter case possibly indicating the alternative of continuous operation thereof, and for detecting and indicating one or more failures of the side lights. Provision is made for remotely actuating an internal latching relay which so changes internal connections that all detecting and indicating components should response.

Abstract: Apparatus for removing the entrails of slaughtered birds with positioning means, an oblong spoon carrier with at its end a spoon-shaped extractor member and a head pulling bow, the movements thereof being controlled in such a manner that after the engagement of the spoon under the gizzard and lungs the movement of the bow brings about the attachment of the head together with part of the gullet, and wind pipe, attached thereto.

Abstract: Alcohol substantially free of water is prepared by continuously fermenting a fermentable biomass feedstock in a fermentation unit, thereby forming an aqueous fermentation liquor containing alcohol and microorganisms. Continuously extracting a portion of alcohol from said fermentation liquor with an organic solvent system containing an extractant for said alcohol, thereby forming an alcohol-organic solvent extract phase and an aqueous raffinate. Said alcohol is separated from said alcohol-organic solvent phase. A raffinate comprising microorganisms and unextracted alcohol is returned to the fermentation unit.

Abstract: A main housing assembly has a back plate and a front casing which is hingedly secured to the back plate. A bracket on the backplate supports a liquid reservoir which includes a flexible bag carried by a fiber board box, the bag having a discharge tube clamped at one corner of the bag. A discharge nozzle assembly is connected by one end to the discharge tube, the discharge nozzle assembly having a pair of ball check valves carried by the ends of a flexible tube. The lower ball check valve protrudes from the bottom of the housing when the liquid reservoir is mounted on the bracket and the nozzle assembly protrudes downwardly therefrom in front of the bracket. A depressible plunger carried by the casing is adapted to squeeze the flexible tube of the nozzle assembly so as to close the upper ball check valve and open the lower ball check valve permitting a metered amount of liquid to be discharged through the lower ball check valve.

Abstract: A staple remover avoids scattering of removed staples by delivering them in a controlled manner onto a storage rail where they are clearly viewable to indicate when the storage rail requires emptying. A handle pivoted to the storage rail carries on its face opposing the storage rail a textile element which prevents removed staples from traveling toward the forward end of the storage rail and stabilizes the removed staples until they are separated from the storage rail.

Abstract: Conversion of a conventional volume-price computer for a liquid fuel metering pump to extend the existing range from three place to four place unit price per volume and comprising an auxiliary differential gear train assembly driven from the main output gear of the volume register shaft through a settable variable gear train and a fixed step-up gear train assembly wherein an additional higher unit price per volume of 0, $1, or $2 may be added to the conventional mechanism.

Abstract: A frying basket large enough to contain two or three individual servings of a food product is equipped with a pair of removable partitions including basket divider portions and right angular basket cover portions. When in place on the frying basket, two or three individual servings can be cooked simultaneously in the basket without intermixing, and when completely cooked, the individual servings can be dispensed one at a time from the basket while the remaining servings are retained in the basket for further cooking and subsequent dispensing. One or two of the removable partitions can be utilized with a standard size frying basket. The arrangement avoids the necessity for reweighing or recounting individual servings after cooking and avoids delivering unequal servings to customers.

Abstract: A radio frequency interferometer/Doppler target location system comprising in one embodiment a wave source on a target vehicle which is tracked by a radio frequency interferometer located at a known situs. The radio frequency interferometer generates signals representing the azimuth angle, elevational angle and Doppler shift of the source. The Doppler shift is a direct measurement of the velocity of the target vehicle in wavelengths per second and therefore if the Doppler cycles are counted from the time the target vehicle is launched, its range can be determined at any desired time. The azimuth angle signal, elevation angle signal and the Doppler shift signal are then transmitted to a processor where the information is converted into any desired format to indicate the position of the tracked vehicle.

Abstract: A riding, self propelled tractor primarily for earthworking operations in the garden but also having lawn mowing and lawn care capabilities has a rear mounted engine with a rear traction wheel assembly beneath the engine and front wide stance laterally adjustable steering wheels enabling the tractor to operate along row crops. An implement support near the front of the tractor in clear view of the operator includes a parallelogram lift for diverse easily interchangeable earthworking implements and a lawn mower attachment. A simplified belt transmission having forward and reverse drive capabilities eliminates all gear shifting and foot operated assist clutch pedals. Increased ground clearance is achieved.
