Abstract: A total reflection cell has a total reflection prism on at least one surface thereof. A mixed solution containing a gold colloid labelled antibody which is adsorbed on a gold colloid is stored in the total reflection cell, and a sample solution containing an antigen causing antigen-antibody reaction with the antibody is added thereto for forming a gold colloid labelled immune complex. A measuring beam is introduced into the total reflection prism from an incident optical system at an angle ? of incidence causing total reflection and an outgoing beam from the total reflection prism is received by a measuring optical system, thereby measuring absorption by the gold colloid labelled immune complex and carrying out qualification and determination of the antigen.

Abstract: The present invention concerns a method for the detection of an analyte in a sample liquid by luminescence measurement according to the principle of a ligand-receptor assay, e.g. an immunoassay or a hybridization assay or a combination thereof, wherein a sample liquid is incubated with at least one receptor which carries a luminescent label and the presence or/and the amount of the analyte to be detected is determined in the sample liquid by measuring the luminescence in a measuring medium containing dispersed components.

Abstract: For preventing holes from occurrence at an internally widened area of a rib knitted fabric, at the area, two needles, one on the front needle bed, the other on the back needle bed, are made empty. Then, a stitch held by an adjacent needle to one of the two empty needles is transferred to the other of the two empty needles so that two continuous needles on one needle bed are made empty and that the former empty needle on the other needle bed is provided with the transferred stitch. A yarn feeder is made to move over the area while feeding yarn till one needle before the two empty needles, then back above the area while feeding the two empty needles and an intermediate opposing bed needle, and move over the area while feeding yarn from the subsequent needles after the two former empty needles.
Abstract: A heat generating cooling device including a heat sink with a plurality of fins and a cooling fan unit mounted on and above the fins and having a motor. At least one auxiliary blade is provided on the bottom surface of the motor and extends in toward the thickness direction of the heat sink. The fins can be formed short to provide blade clearance.

Abstract: An X-ray generating apparatus in which X-rays are emitted from laser plasma, the X-ray generating apparatus including a strong magnetic field generating device for generating a magnetic field component substantially parallel with the target surface in the vicinity of the laser plasma. The magnetic field component is arranged to generate a magnetic force which acts directly on charged particles in the laser plasma to bend the tracks of the charged particles, causing the charged particles to be confined in a magnetic field formed by the magnetic field component. The magnetic flux of the strong magnetic field is directed to a direction which is different from the direction in which the laser plasma is generated. An X-ray supply object is disposed in the laser plasma generating direction. Charged particles, liable to be directed to the X-ray supply object, are mainly confined in the strong magnetic field.

Abstract: An apparatus and method to separate and store ions by exploiting mobility characteristics of the ions. A sample is introduced into a trap volume and ionized. The ions are separated according to their mobility characteristics by applying an electric field to the trap volume. The ions thus migrate to equilibrium positions in the trap volume due to a difference in mobilities and to changes in the electric field. The ions may be sequentially scanned from the trap by changing the electric field. The identity of ions within the trap may then be determined.
Abstract: The invention provides DNA sequences encoding novel members of the TGF-.beta. family of proteins. The TGF-.beta. family comprises proteins which function as growth and/or differentiation factors and which are useful in medical applications. Accordingly, the invention also describes the isolation of the above-mentioned DNA sequences, the expression of the encoded proteins, the production of the proteins and pharmaceutical compositions containing the proteins.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a ball chain used by being integrated to, for example, a ball endless track of a linear guide device for endless sliding in which a number of balls are arranged in one row and rollably held, particularly to a ball chain which is most pertinent to a linear guide device having a ball rolling groove in a shape of a Gothic arch. According to the ball chain, the number of balls are arranged in one row and the balls are held rollably, each of the balls is pinched by a pair of spherical seats and the spherical seats are connected to each other by flange portions to thereby constitute a ball holding unit and a plurality of the ball holding units are connected in a shape of a rosary by a flexible connecting portion. Further, the spherical seats and the flange portions are molded by a resin material whereas the connecting portion is formed by a material having a tensile strength larger than that of the resin material.

Abstract: A plant package for an artificial aquarium plant including a card member having a front face and a shaped shell member affixed to the front face by a peripheral bonding flange. The shell member has an upper section including a plant base holding pocket with a top edge. The top edge is free of the card member. The bottom portion of the plant base holding pocket is shaped to confine a base of the artificial aquarium plant with the top portion being restricted and shaped to overlay and support one or more plant stems of the artificial aquarium plant.
