  • Patent number: 6045976
Abstract: An optical exposure method in photolithography applied for precise processing when semiconductor devices are produced. A pattern on a photomask is projected and exposed on a register on a base plate with an exposure device including a deformation illumination system, a photomask and a projection lens. The deformation illumination system is composed of a light source, a diaphragm and a condenser lens, and the diaphragm is provided with a linear through-hole. The optical exposure method uses a ray of linear light for illumination or two rays of linear light for illumination that are parallel with the pattern. The two rays of linear light are symmetrical with respect to an optical axis. These rays are parallel with the pattern in a position separate from the optical axis of the exposure device when the photomask pattern is a line and space pattern.

  • Patent number: 6045481
Abstract: A control system for a toroidal continuously variable transmission which can control the transmission ratio without installing a position detection device or an angle detection device on trunnions and secure a sufficient control response to prevent hunting of the transmission ratio. To realize this control system, an axial force calculation device M3 calculates the axial force 2Ft in the trunnion axis direction that the transmission ratio control actuators are required to generate, based on the transmission ratio i calculated by a transmission ratio calculation device M1 from the input disk revolution speed .omega..sub.1 and the output disk revolution speed .omega..sub.2, and on the input torque Ti or output torque To estimated by a torque estimation device M2. An axial force change calculation device M4 calculates the amount of change in the axial force .DELTA.Ft based on the deviation between the target transmission ratio ic and the transmission ratio i.

  • Patent number: 6046694
Abstract: An encoder for an A/D converter includes a plurality of ROM cells connected between bit lines and word lines. Each of the ROM cells is responsive to a word line select signal supplied to a word line associated with each of the ROM cells for supplying a digital output signal according to the word line select signal to a bit line associated with each of the ROM cells. A logic processor is coupled to one of the bit lines and to two of the word lines used to select a ROM cell connected to the bit line. The logic processor produces an output signal indicative of a selection of the ROM cell connected to the bit line, based on word line select signals supplied on the two word lines.

  • Patent number: 6043744
Abstract: An antitheft system embodying the invention comprises an alarm unit 2 attached to a commodity for producing an alarm on receiving a detection signal or an alarm activating signal while stopping the alarm on receiving an alarm stopping signal, and a signal generator provided on a cashier's counter for producing alarm activating signals and alarm stopping signals alternately. When the commodity is handed by the customer to the clerk at the cashier's counter, with the alarm unit 2 attached to the commodity, the alarm unit 2 intermittently produces an alarm on receiving alarm activating signals and alarm stopping signals alternately, thereby enabling the clerk to reliably recognize that the alarm unit 2 is attached to the commodity. When the clerk thereafter removes the alarm unit 2 from the commodity, the production of alarm is forcibly ceased.

  • Patent number: 6040430
Abstract: An invention is described that permits the regulation of recombination in cells, organisms or appropriate cell-free systems. The invention involves creating fusion proteins between recombinase proteins, or components of recombinase systems, and ligand binding domains derived from nuclear receptors. The fusion proteins show little recombinase activity in the absence of the ligand that binds to the ligand binding domain. Upon binding of the ligand, recombinase activity is induced. The invention provides a practical means to regulate recombination in cells and organisms and, by linking ligand binding to recombination, provides a simple means whereby ligand binding can be measured as recombination achieved.

  • Patent number: 6039941
Abstract: The invention concerns the preparation and use of a live tumour-cell vaccine which contains three additional genes prepared by genetic-engineering techniques: a) a gene coding for a cell-surface protein with immunostimulatory activity, b) a cytokin gene and c) the thymidine kinase gene. The fields of application of the invention are medicine and genetic engineering. The live vaccine proposed owes its effect to the fact that a synergistic anti-tumour response is induced by the multiple transfer of genes which code for immunostimulatory activity. This leads to reliable repulsion of the vaccine cells and enables cells capable of multiplying to be injected as a vaccine. As an additional safety marker, the vaccine cells are given the thymidine kinase gene which enables the vaccine cells to be selectively killed in vivo.
