  • Patent number: 7014678
Abstract: According to the invention, oil-charged mill-scale is treated such that the oil is encapsulated or bound therein. An escape of oil on use in a shaft oven first occurs when the ignition point is reached, thus guaranteeing combustion. Agglomeration of said mixture is by pelleting. A mixture comprising the following is preferably used for encapsulation and chemical binding of the oil: A zinc salt and a calcium salt of a saturated or unsaturated fatty acid, a hydrophobic inducing agent, an amino alcohol and ammonia. The abstract of the disclosure is submitted herewith as required by 37 C.F.R. §1.72(b). • Patent number: 6997555
Abstract: There is now provided a method for determining vision defects and for collecting data for correcting vision defects of the eye. The method comprises projecting an image into the eye of the patient with an adaptive optical system having adaptive optical elements. The optical characteristics of the optical elements can be individually changed by an electrical signal. The presence of distortions of the image as perceived by the patient is determined by interaction of the patient with the examiner. By way of an electronic control system the optical characteristics of the adaptive optical elements are changed through outputting of an electrical signal to obtain a modified image with minimized distortions in the eye of the patient. The optical characteristics of the adaptive optical elements, as modified, are determined and vision correcting data for the eye being examined are computed from the optical characteristics of the adaptive optical elements, as modified.

  • Patent number: 6988859
Abstract: The invention relates to a drill bit (2), having main cutting edges (4a, 4b) which are connected together by a transversal cutting edge (6). An open surface (7) which extends into a flute (8) lies adjacent to each main cutting edge. The drill bit (2) is ground, in particular, during a continuous three-dimensional grinding process in such a way that the open surface (7) forms a continuous curved surface which follows a radius of curvature (R) running from the main cutting edge (4a) in the direction of the flute (8). The continuous grinding process, in comparison to a conventional two-stage process, produces an improved drill bit geometry which is devoid of ridges (16). The ridge-free configuration reduces the mechanical stress during drilling to a minimum.
