  • Patent number: 6271813
Abstract: A method of controlling the brightness level of a screen display having a matrix of pixels that each have a brightness level controlled by a first and second voltage includes maintaining the first voltage of each pixel at a preselected voltage level. The second voltage level is controlled and adjusted depending on the ambient light conditions. The second voltage is increased during daytime conditions to increase the brightness of the screen display and decreased during nighttime conditions to decrease the brightness of the display. The ambient light conditions are determined by using a light-sensitive sensor or a manually adjustable control.

  • Patent number: 6257626
Abstract: The present invention is directed to a connector for joining fluid flow passegeways in a fluid handling system. The connector may be manually manipulated, without using any tools, to quickly and easily couple or decouple the mating connector components. Those components include a plug having a cylindrical plug wall and a radially extending flange, and a mating socket having a cylindrical socket wall and a pair of diametrically opposed retainers. The retainers each comprise an axially extending flexible lever spaced from the socket wall. The lever is joined to the socket wall at a base or proximal end and has a latch at its free or distal end. The lever is also joined to the socket wall by a fulcrum wall or living hinge positioned intermediate the ends of the lever. A split lock ring is disposed between the socket wall and each retainer and is movable from a position adjacent the base of each retainer to a position remote from the base of each retainer.

  • Patent number: 6239804
Abstract: The present invention provides a device and method for visually confirming at a work site the accuracy of measurements representing the shape of an object. Include is a microprocessor into which a plurality of measurements representing a plurality of reference points corresponding to the shape of the object is inputted. The device and method may also display a plurality of the reference points, either individually or as connected line segments corresponding to the measurements, This allows for the visual confirmation of the accuracy of the measurements by comparing the image displayed with the shape of the object. In addition, this may also permit an operator to notice an incorrect measurement input and make the appropriate correction.

  • Patent number: 6226998
Abstract: An process and method for monitoring and limiting high voltage conditions in a transport refrigeration unit is disclosed. The system provides a microprocessor control which monitors the load, generator temperature and engine speed and compares it to an algorithm or map programmed into a controller for the unit. The map or algorithm preferably predicts voltage based upon load (amperage), generator temperature and engine speed. If the result of the monitored features predicts a voltage above preselected acceptable levels which are programmed into the controller, then the controller will drop the engine into low speed.

  • Patent number: 6223103
Abstract: A vehicle display system includes an electroluminescent display showing images of a plurality of control switches within the vehicle. Whenever one of the control switches is accessed by a vehicle operator, a controller alters the image of that control switch. The altered image can be highlighted or have a different color, for example. The visual indication of which switch is being accessed provides the vehicle operator visual confirmation of which switch is being accessed so that the operator need not look directly at the switch.

  • Patent number: 6205470
Abstract: The present invention comprises a Document Process Server (DPS) for users of mainframes, such as Unisys' IPS and DPI 800/DP500 Series Reader/Sorters. The DPS allows ORS and Poll Select DP Series Reader/Sorters to be connected to ClearPath™/A/V Series Unisys mainframes via LAN/WAN connectivity and/or economical telephone company connections such as Frame Relay. The DPS enhances the IPS/DP Series user's system in that it allows ClearPath™/A/V Series users to use LAN/WAN connectivity with their existing Reader/Sorter investment. ClearPath ™ users are not required to purchase new NDP Reader/Sorters since Unisys does not support the ORS interface. “Click”/usage charges associated with the NDP Series are averted. Cost of dedicated telephone lines and MUX equipment are not needed. V Series users are not required to purchase single or multiple dedicated A/ClearPath™ Series to interface TCP/IP to the V Series host.

  • Patent number: RE37226
Abstract: A battery pack 13 (FIG. 2) comprises an elongated cylindrical, metal casing 35, a plurality of cells 41, 43 in casing 35 and three coaxial pack terminals 46, 54, 61. For enhanced convenience, pack terminals 46, 54, 61 are electrically connectable in a cordless device 11 regardless of the angular orientation of the pack 13 about casing axis 33. To reduce cost and increase durability, pack 13 has no welded connections and will permit high current discharge rates. Cells 41, 43 are electrically connected but are mechanically disconnected. A spring 73 engages cell 41 and biases cells 41, 43 tightly together in compression to form good, low resistance electrical contact between cells 41, 43, casing base cap 45 and top 53. To provide a pack with two output voltages, the third pack terminal 61 has a polarity (relative to first pack terminal 46) the same as second pack terminal 54 and is electrically connected to the cell can terminal 43b of forward cell 43, thereby electrically by-passing cell 43.
