Abstract: Novel catalytic processes for the production of carnosol from carnosic acid using hydrogen peroxide or a peracid are presented. The carnosic acid may be in pure form, in an impure form, part of a plant extract, or may be present in rosemary needles. The catalyst may be iron, iron salts, a minor amount of water, rosemary needles, or a mixture thereof.
Abstract: A signature sequence is employed in a wireless transmission over a channel and is detected by a receiving station. The signature sequence is selected from a subset of sequences chosen from a set of sequences formed by delay-Doppler shifts of a base sequence. Use of the subset of sequences simplifies detection of the signature sequence by, e.g., facilitating use of a simpler detector structure. A subset of N2 sequences of the specially-constructed delay-Doppler shifted sequence set is selected to facilitate more efficient computation of the detection metric. A simplified detector employs algebraic techniques (such as Discrete Fourier 'Transform (DFT)) that exploit prudent sequence assignment strategy. As an advantageous variation, for a particular class of base sequences that can be represented by segments of equal-length sinusoids, even greater complexity reduction can be achieved by segmenting the delay-Doppler correlation accordingly and reusing past outcome in subsequent overlapping segments.
Abstract: Providing an interface device interfacing between an access network and a back-bone network comprises: providing a management device, receiving data readings from a transceiver device indicative of the current or recent line rate of a DSL connection of the access network, and providing the interface device to restrict data flowing to the DSL connection to a new maximum rate selected in accordance with the received data readings from the transceiver device indicative of the current or recent line rate of the DSL connection. When the new maximum rate is greater than the existing maximum rate for the DSL connection at which the interface device is currently provided, the interface device is provisioned (or re-provisioned) only after a delay period. The delay period depends upon the increase amount of in the new maximum rate compared to the existing maximum rate so that the greater the increase, the shorter the delay period.

Abstract: The backlight device 12 of the present invention includes a plurality of tubular light sources 17 provided in a parallel arrangement and a light reflecting member 20 arranged on a opposite side from an illuminating side that is illuminated with light from the light sources 17. The arrangement of the tubular includes a narrow pitch area 17a in which an arrangement interval is relatively small and a wide pitch area 17b in which an arrangement interval is relatively large. A dot pattern including a plurality of dots 22 is formed on the light reflecting member 20. Light reflectivity of the dots 22 is different from that of the light reflecting member 20. Light reflectivity of a light reflecting surface including surfaces of the light reflecting member and the dot pattern is low in the narrow pitch area 17a than in the wide pitch area 17b.
Abstract: A fluorescent tube 30 of the present invention includes a glass tube 31 and electrodes 32 opposed to each other on both end portions 31a of the glass tube 31, characterized in that the electrode 32 has a closed-end hollow shape opened on the opposite side from the end portion 31a of the glass tube 31, and the electrode 32 constituting the closed-end hollow shape has an inner surface 35 configured to be tapered toward the end portion 31a of the glass tube 31. With this configuration, it is possible to contain accelerated electrons not only in the bottom face 33 of the electrode 32 but also in the inner surface 35 of the electrode 32, thereby suppressing sputtering. Consequently, it is possible to increase the life of the fluorescent tube 30.

Abstract: This invention relates to a high transmission low iron glass that includes boron oxide. The boron oxide, added to this low iron glass, has the effect of improving glass refining, homogeneity and quality (lower seed count) through its flux action and improves glass optical parameters of green and clear glass through the change in refractive index and surface tension. Boron oxide lends to broader and weaker absorption band of such transition element(s) as iron which additionally improves the transmittance of low iron clear glass in certain example embodiments of this invention. In certain example embodiments, the addition of boron oxide in certain quantities in advantageous in that it improves the chemical durability of the glass by decreasing the USPX (or USPXIII) value of the glass via suppression of the silica, sodium ions in the glass structure.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a system for detecting and classifying events during motion actions, in particular “offside” event in the football game. The system allows determining such event in a real-time and semi-automatic context, by taking into account the variability of the environmental conditions and of the dynamics of the events which can be traced back to the offside. The present invention proposes itself with a not-invasive technique, compatible with the usual course of the match.

Abstract: Apparatus for data processing 2 is provided with processing circuitry 8 which operates in one or more secure modes 40 and one or more non-secure modes 42. When operating in a non-secure mode, one or more regions of the memory are inaccessible. A memory management unit 24 is responsive to page table data to manage accesses to the memory which includes a secure memory 22 and a non-secure memory 6. Abstract: Whether or not an angular velocity detected by an angular velocity sensor is used for a game process is determined, and a difficulty level of a game to be subjected to a game process is set so as to vary depending on whether the angular velocity is determined to be used or the angular velocity is determined not to be used. When the angular velocity is determined not to be used, a process of specifying a motion direction of an input device is performed by using acceleration detected by an acceleration sensor, whereas when the angular velocity is determined to be used, at least a part of the process of specifying the motion of the input device is performed by using the angular velocity detected by the angular velocity sensor. Accordingly, based on the specified motion direction, the game process is performed while the set difficulty level is applied.
