  • Patent number: 4839861
Abstract: A rewritable information recording medium which has a recording layer containing a Group I transition element and a Group IV representative elements of the Periodic Table as two principal element and a support substrate for physically supporting the recording layer, and an information-write, -read, and erase method using this recording medium. When the recording layer is immediately cooled after it is heated up to near a eutectic temperature of the two principal elements, two metastable phases having different energy levels appear. A state in the first metastable phase of the higher energy level has a reflectivity sufficiently higher than that of a state of a mixed phase including the second metastable phase of the lower energy level, or that of the equilibrium state. The state in the first metastable phase can be obtained by heating a recording layer in another state by light beam irradiation.

  • Patent number: 4839887
Abstract: A node apparatus is used in a communication network having a multi-conjunction architecture. The communication network has a plurality of transmission paths each coupling one node apparatus to another node apparatus or a terminal device. The node apparatus generally comprises an input port, an output port, and a control part for controlling the coupling of input channels of the input port to output channels of the output port. The control part couples a first receiving input channel which receives a signal first out of the input channels to all of the output channels excluding an output channel having a channel number corresponding to that of the first receiving input channel, so as to broadcast the signal.

  • Patent number: 4838329
Abstract: A nonskid device for a tire, shoe sole or the like. The device comprises a stud that is embedded in a hole formed inwardly from the tread of the tire or shoe sole. The stud is a generally spherical or cylindrical body having an annular stud tip formed integrally therewith at one end thereof and is retained in the hole, either directly or via a cup, by an annular projection protruding inward from the wall of the hole. In normal slip-free travel, the stud tip does not project above the tread, and only the apex of the spherical or cylindrical body thereof is exposed at the plane of the tread. When the tread slips relative to the road surface, a force acts on the apex to cause the stud to rotate by a small angle. This causes the stud tip to rise beyond the plane of the tread and bite into the road surface.

  • Patent number: 4839821
Abstract: In an automatic cell-layout arranging system for a polycell logic LSI, polycells are initially arranged in the form of cell arrays on a chip substrate. Connection paths for wiring lines among the polycells are then determined in accordance with cell-wiring requirements, so as to maximally satisfy a predetermined object function, thereby obtaining an LSI logic circuit capable of performing the desired function. A processor unit calculates a first number "N" of wiring lines actually extending through each of the cell arrays, and a second number "ml" representing an allowable number of through-lines for each cell array. Thereafter, this unit calculates a third number "K" representing the difference "ml-N" between the first and second numbers.

  • Patent number: 4839807
Abstract: A method and system for automated classification of distinction between normal lungs and abnormal lungs with interstitial disease, based on the analysis of predetermined physical texture measures and also on a data base for normal lungs of these texture measures. The texture measures selected are the RMS variation, R, and the first moment of power spectrum, M, for lung texture. These two texture measures are normalized by using the data base for normal lungs. A single texture index is determined from the two normalized texture measures by taking into account the distribution (or the data base) of texture measures obtained from abnormal lungs, in order to facilitate the automated classification of normal and abnormal lungs. A threshold texture index is then chosen for initial selection of "abnormal" regions of interest (ROIs), which contain a large texture index above the threshold level.
