  • Patent number: 4835504
Abstract: A block of magnetized material for adjusting and correcting a magnetic field produced by a magnet provides adjustable correction by modifying the orientation of the magnetic moment of the block with respect to the field. A device which includes an intermediate member rotatably mounted in an orientable support and a fixing member rotatably mounted in the intermediate member makes it possible to orient a preferred direction of the block in a predetermined direction. This results in modification of magnetic disturbances produced by the block in the zone of interest of the magnet. Quantization of pointing of the orientable support is obtained by means of graduated index marks on the support, on the intermeidate member and on the fixing member.

  • Patent number: 4834533
Abstract: An apparatus for measuring the refractive index of liquid particularly suitable for use in an ink-jet printing system is provided. The apparatus includes a light emitting diode and a photodiode which are optically coupled by an optical fiber which in turn is partly immersed in a liquid to be measured. In one aspect, the wavelength of light emitted from the light emitting diode is so set to be outside a light absorption wavelength range of the liquid to be measured. In another aspect, provision is made of a temperature dependent resistor which changes its electrical resistance depending on the temperature of the liquid to be measured so as to vary the level of the driving current to be applied to the light emitting diode thereby varying the amount of light to be emitted.

  • Patent number: 4833883
Abstract: A filter unit comprises a plurality of plates made of an air-permeable, porous material which define particulate-containing gas passages and clean gas passages. The clean gas passages are formed at one side of each of the air-permeable, porous plates and the particulate-containing gas passages are at the other side in the direction intersecting each other. Particulates in an exhaust gas from a diesel engine deposit and accumulate on the air-permeable, porous plate while the exhaust gas is passed from the particulate-containing gas passages through the air-permeable, porous plates to the clean gas passages. A nozzle is placed in an outlet conduit, which is connected to the discharging side of the clean gas passages, to eject gas for back washing to thereby peel off and drop the particulates on the air-permeable, porous plates. A particulate receiving plate is provided to collect the particulates, which are burnt by a heater provided in the particulate receiving plate.

  • Patent number: 4835117
Abstract: There is disclosed a semiconductor layer which can emit a continuous laser beam in a visible wavelength range. The laser has an n-GaAs substrate. On this substrate, an n-InGaAlP cladding layer, an active layer, and p-InGaAlP cladding layers are sequentially formed, thus forming a double hetero-structure. A mesa-shaped, upper cladding layer is provided, defining a laser beam-guiding channel. A thin p-InGaAlP contact layer and a mesa-shaped, p-GaAs contact layer are formed on the top surface of the upper cladding layer. Two n-type semiconductive, current-blocking layers cover the slanted sides of the upper, mesa-shaped cladding layer and also the contact layer. They are made of the same n-GaAs compound semiconductor material as the substrate.
