Abstract: The hot top utilizes an integral angle iron structure connected to the hot top for avoiding seal leaks of molten metal through the space between the bottom portion of the hot top and the top of the mold wall. By providing the angle iron structure with a plurality of holes which allow the cooling ingot metal to tear out portions of the structure as the ingot contracts, such structure also allows the cooling ingot to move downwardly in the mold and to separate from the structure, thereby preventing hanger cracks from occurring.
Abstract: An adjustment device to adjust the depth and height of a seat cushion, the longitudinal positions of a headrest and the like in a seat for use in a vehicle such as an automobile is disclosed. In the adjustment device, a rod is rotatably journaled on the side of fixed means thereof, a pair of link members are respectively fixed to the rod at the first ends thereof with the free ends thereof being connected to a movable member, there is provided in said fixed means a crankshaft having a pair of bent portions on the substantially 180.degree. opposing sides thereof, and the bent portions of the crankshaft are respectively inserted through and engaged with slits formed in the two link members, whereby the link members are rotated by rotating the crankshaft so as to be able to move or adjust the movable member relative to the fixed means.
Abstract: A seat for vehicles is described having a thigh support device comprising a seat frame, a movable frame superimposed over and pivotally rotatably secured to the seat frame, an integrally formed cushioning member and a top cover member. The cushioning member has a thigh support portion disposed on the movable frame and a buttocks support portion disposed on the seat frame. Two separately divided side cover sections are defined in the side cover section of the top cover member so as to provide a first side cover section covering the thigh support portion and a second side cover section covering the buttocks support portion with the first and second side cover sections being secured in such a manner that they overlap each other at their respective edge portions.
Abstract: System for automatic control of chlorine content and pH in swimming pools. This system includes an electrolytic cell for generation of chlorine and caustic soda as needed, and an acid supply system for adding hydrochloric acid to the pool as required. Generation of chlorine and addition of acid are controlled automatically in response to sensed oxidation-reduction potential (ORP) and pH of the swimming pool water. The sensors for this purpose may be placed in a conventional pool recirculation line, and chlorine, caustic soda (which is co-produced with chlorine) and hydrochloric acid may be added to the pool via the recirculation line.The electrolytic cell has a porous separator dividing the cell into anolyte and catholyte compartments. The latter is operated at a slightly higher pressure than the former. Chlorine generated in the cell is separated from spent brine, which is recirculated back to a brine tank where it is resaturated. The system may include a timer.

Abstract: A double-acting, vending machine dispensing mechanism is shown whereby product units are alternately dispensed from adjacent storage compartments by an ejection device. The ejection device comprises a horizontally reciprocating dispensing bar connected to, and moved by the pendular movement of a rocker frame, motion of the latter being induced by the camming action of a gear mounted boss. The camming gear, in turn, is driven by a separate gear attached to the operating handle of a coin released mechanism.
Abstract: A roofing fastener is shown adapted to fasten membrane roofing film to roofing structures. The fastener comprises a base plate having a segmented upper, tapered circular flange section; a segmented middle circular ring locking section; and a lower base section. After attaching the base plate to the roofing structure by means of a fastener inserted through an axial hole located in the center of the base plate, and an annular snap ring having an internal diameter just large enough to fit over the film covered base plate when the segments of the base plate are compressed, is forced over the film covered base plate, and adjacent to the locking section, thereby locking the roofing film in place.
Abstract: A seal for a bottle and cap assembly. The seal is formed from a heat shrink sheet which is adhesively coated on one side. A pull tab is formed by a pair of cuts in one edge of the sheet forming the seal and a tear strip is adhesively secured to the back of the sheet in registration with the pull tab. After being adhesively secured to a bottle and cap assembly, the sheet is heat shrunk to conform to the contour of the bottle and to provide a flange over the bottle cap. In one embodiment the pull tab is in registration with the area of joinder between the cap and the bottle and in another, the sheet is devoid of adhesive in an area extending from the pull tab and bridging the joinder between the cap and bottle. In either case, pulling of the pull tab separates the sheet into a first piece adhered to the cap and a second piece adhered to the bottle allowing for the only possible access to the bottle without evidence of tampering showing in the sheet.
Abstract: A slide device for use in an automotive seat which is capable of adjusting the positions of the seat forwardly and backwardly. In the slide device, an upper rail provided on the side of the seat is slidably mounted via a slider to a lower rail provided on the side of floor of the automobile. The slider comprises a plate spring which is provided with a plurality of projected portions in the portions thereof where the slider is brought into contact with the upper rail. That is, the projected portions of the plate spring prevents the generation of play of the upper rail in the vertical direction as well as in the right and left direction thereof.
Abstract: A fuel injection pump device comprising a plunger (8) facing a pressurizing chamber (20) and actuated by a cam (12), a control sleeve (14) mounted on the plunger (8) in a fuel chamber (15) , an inclined groove (8d) and longitudinal groove (8c) provided on one of the plunger (8) or the control sleeve (14) for controlling the communication of the pressurizing chamber (20) and the fuel chamber (15) by way of an oil passage (8a) formed in the plunger (8), and control ports (14a) provided on the other of the plunger (8) or the control sleeve (14), which cooperates with both of the grooves (8c) and (8d). The effective stroke of the plunger (8) can be controlled by turning the plunger (8) around its axis to change the relative position of the inclined groove (8d) and longitudinal groove (8c) and the control ports ( 14a), and the prestroke thereof, this is a fuel injection timing, can be easily controlled only by moving the control sleeve (14) in the direction of the plunger axis.
Abstract: Apparatus for exposing the interior of tires including a rotary disc for receiving and positioning a tire on its side thereon and members engage the bead of a tire for positioning the tire and holding one bead and sidewall portion against the rotary disc to cause the tire to rotate with the disc and permit inspection of at least a portion of the interior wall of a tire being inspected, and a second rotary disc is positioned spaced from the first named means to receive the tire thereon and other members engage a bead and sidewall portion of the tire to expose a different inner sidewall area of the tire for inspection purposes. Other members are present to transfer a test tire from one rotary disc to the other and to turn the tire through a 180.degree. arc while being transported from the first disc to the second disc.
Abstract: A carpet laying tool is disclosed comprising an angular member connected at one end to a carpet wedging, rotatable circular wheel, and at the other end to a carpet compressing, swivelable block member. The tool is used to wedge the carpeting being laid into the juncture of walls and floors, while simultaneously pressing it onto carpeting tack strips or an adhesive, whichever is being used to retain the carpet in place. The tool is used by holding it by the angular member and placing it horizontally on the carpeting, adjacent and at a slight angle to a wall, so that the wheel and block are both in contact with the carpeting. A downward force is then applied in the direction of the angle of tool disposition, and the tool is moved along the juncture in the direction of the wheel, simultaneously forcing the carpeting into the area of the juncture, and onto the tack strip or adhesive.
Abstract: Rigid lightweight composite panel. The panel comprises a honeycomb core, and sheets of rigid lightweight polyvinyl chloride (PVC) having a foamed center and smooth matte surfaces, bonded directly to opposite sides of the core, preferably by thin layers of pressure sensitive adhesive material. The panels are useful as custom exhibits and for other purposes.
Abstract: A countertop wrapping machine for weighing and wrapping merchandise is disclosed. A single roll of film is supported by columns which extend upwardly from the back end of the machine. A shelf for supporting a weighing device is disposed near the bottom of the machine but high enough so that a web of film can pass thereunder. The wrapping machine also has a transverse electrically heated cutter bar with a knife edge which contacts only a small area of film. A hot plate is provided for heating portions of the film for heat sealing. One end of the roll of film is supported by a device which can be adjustably mounted on an axle to accommodate rolls of different widths. The other end of the roll may be supported by conventional means. The machine operator pulls a web of film manually along a path which extends from the film roll, under the shelf for the weighing device, and to the cutter bar.
Abstract: A seat for use in a vehicle such as an automobile which comprises a trim cover assembly including a center portion having a fixed width, two side portions sewn to the sides of the center portion and margins produced when the two side portions are sewn to the center portion and projecting out on the back side of the trim cover assembly, and a pad member of foam material covered by the trim cover assembly and formed in the right and left portions of the surface thereof with two sets of recessed grooves into which the above-mentioned margins are inserted, the two sets spaced from each other at a distance equal to the width of the center portion of the trim cover assembly. Each of the recessed grooves has an opening cut wider in either portion thereof to be expanded so that, even when the surface of the pad member is formed uneven between the right and left sets of recessed grooves, the margins can be inserted into the recessed grooves.
Abstract: A phase-locked digital synthesizer comprises a voltage-controlled oscillator (6) supplying a frequency divider (7) the output of which is fed to a phase-sensitive detector (9) also receiving an input from a reference oscillator (10). The output of the detector (9) is fed back by a feedback loop to the voltage-controlled oscillator (6) to achieve phase-locking. The divider (7) receives an input from a logic circuit (8) to control the division ratio of the divider (7), the logic circuit being prompted by a control signal which is also used to select one of a plurality of loop filters (12,13) connected for selectable use in the feedback loop from the detector (9) to the voltage controlled oscillator (6), the selected loop filter being appropriate to the prompted division ratio. Other embodiments include compensating means to correct a loop phase error arising from a change in the division ratio.
