  • Patent number: 5247984
Abstract: A plastic model pattern indicative of the desired completed pattern having prescribed dimensional tolerances and surface finish characteristics is encased within a Type I material which may be a soluble wax or low melting point material, and subsequently leached from the Type I material to define a cavity corresponding to the dimensional characteristics of the plastic model pattern. A Type II material, such as an insoluble wax or high melting point material, may then be injected into the cavity to recreate the plastic model pattern without the use of any plastics materials, to avoid potentially mold deteriorating expansion of such plastics materials. The mold form of Type I material may then be removed by leaching, melting or the like to reveal the completed expendable pattern usable in a lost wax mold forming process. An injection apparatus and die structure is advantageously utilized in conjunction with the process to achieve high production quality and insure proper formation of the expendable pattern.

  • Patent number: 5248356
Abstract: A method for forming a seat belt through-bore in an automotive seat, which uses a lower die having an opening perforated therein and an upper die movable toward and away from the lower die, the method including the steps of providing a top cover member having an incision therein and two separate covering pieces sewn to a frontal surface of the top cover member such that they are disposed on the opposite sides of the incision, and turning upside down the thus-formed top cover member. In this method process, it is so arranged that, before lowering the upper die to press and bond the top cover member to a cushion member, the free portions of those two covering pieces are inserted into said opening of said lower die, so that the top cover member is placed flat upon the lower die, in order to avoid creation of undesired recession on the top cover member of resultant seat.

  • Patent number: 5243962
Abstract: The invention relates to a cooking oven for mass production of food products and a method for cooking food products. The oven includes an enclosure housing which forms a cooking chamber, having an endless pervious conveyor therein upon which food products are transported through the cooking chamber. The conveyor is arranged to provide a helically extending path over which food products will travel to increase dwell time within the cooking chamber while taking less floor space. A heated gaseous cooking medium is introduced into the cooking chamber and is circulated through an annulus formed by the helically extending conveyor to achieve high heat transfer to the food products being cooked. The oven can utilize steam and/or heated air to achieve varied cooking characteristics as desired and allows substantial versatility in the cooking process.

  • Patent number: 5245098
Abstract: The monomer 5-methyl-1,4-hexadiene (5-MHD), uncontaminated with 4-methyl-1,4-hexadiene (4-MHD), or other hydrocarbons, is obtained by reacting 1-chloro-2-methylpropene with allylmagnesium bromide in equimolar amounts under gentle reflux at atmospheric pressure in an organic solvent medium (diethyl ether) and in the presence of a catalytic amount of a dichloro-[1,2-bis(dimethylphosphino)ethane]nickel (II) in an inert atmosphere. The allyl magnesium bromide is added dropwise with stirring with a mixture of 1-chloro-2-methylpropene and catalyst in the solvent at room temperature. The solvent is separated from the product by distillation, giving substantially pure product. Absence of other hydrocarbons in either the crude product or the pure product may be shown by .sup.1 H NMR, .sup.13 C NMR and GC analysis. Other nonconjugated diolefins can be prepared in an analogous manner using an alkenyl halide and an alkenyl Grignard reagent which upon cross coupling will give the desired nonconjugated diene.

  • Patent number: 5243248
Abstract: The invention is directed to an electric motor construction having a magnetic flux return path which exhibits very low losses due to eddy currents or hysteresis, and simplifies construction thereof. In the motor construction, the magnetic flux return path is constructed from discrete magnetic material wire which is wrapped or otherwise formed in the desired return path configuration. The magnetic material wire is wound in a direction which generally crosses the flow of magnetic flux and yet is substantially tolerant of cross-winding fields. In this way, the flux return path provides easy construction in that coil winding techniques may be used, and the winding direction is less critical as it can cross the flow of flux therein. The flux return path greatly reduces eddy current losses as the cross section of the path to eddy current flow is the cross section of discrete wires, and because the discrete wires are formed with high packing fraction which will minimize skin effects especially at high frequencies.

  • Patent number: 5243267
Abstract: A method for controlling a lumbar support device and a motor control device provided, which are applied to a powered seat. The motor for causing fore-and-aft movement of a lumbar plate is controlled under a selected one of burst and fluctuation control modes. In the burst control mode, the lumbar plate is moved periodically in the fore-and-aft direction, whereas in the fluctuation control mode, the lumbar plate is moved in a aperiodic and weavering way in that direction, for example, on the basis of 1/f fluctuation waveform, to thereby alleviate a fatigue of lumbar part of a passenger sitting on the seat.

  • Patent number: 5233914
Abstract: The In-Car Coffee Maker allows the driver of a motor vehicle to brew a cup or other single portion of brewed beverage without taking attention from the road. The device is stabilized by an anchored base. There is a rotatable holder clamp to level the coffee maker on an uneven floor or other surface of a motor vehicle, and an interlock mechanism prevents commencement of the brewing cycle unless the drinking cup is applied in proper position adjacent the coffee maker. A showerhead configuration above a brewing chamber allows heated water to dispersably contact a prepackaged filter containing beverage precursor particles. A thermostat control causes automatic shut-off when a single portion has brewed. A water reservoir is removable and resealable. Splash guard features are provided in the drinking cup for safety.
