Abstract: Based on the present invention, superior compact spectrometers may be constructed and integrated into a cellular phone, or attached to a cellular phone. Such a cellular phone may be a PDA phone, which supplies electrical power to the said spectrometer, provided with data storage, signal processing capability, and real-time display. As a combined standalone system, it allows spectroscopic measurements to be fulfilled in real-time applications in field, and results can be sent out in wireless communication to a remote station or to another cellular phone user in order to share the measurement results right away. When the system is used with a laser to function as a Raman spectrometer system, it can fulfill many daily routine tasks encountered by ordinary civilians, for example, the blood glucose monitoring for diabetes patients at home in a non-invasive manner.

Abstract: Disclosed is a spark ignition type internal combustion engine, which comprises a variable compression ratio mechanism capable of changing a mechanical compression ratio, and a variable valve timing mechanism capable of controlling the closing timing of an intake valve. The intake air flow to be fed to the inside of a combustion chamber is controlled mainly by changing the closing timing of an intake valve so that the mechanical compression ratio is set higher at an engine low-load running time than that at an engine high-load running time. The mechanical compression ratio at the engine low-load running time before completion of the warm-up of the internal combustion engine is set lower than that at the engine low-load running time after completion of the warm-up of the internal combustion engine.

Abstract: Mounting of gas turbine engines in aircraft requires use of thrust struts associated with mountings. It is important should there be failure that a load path is maintained. Furthermore, on a wing or in-situ inspection is highly desirable with respect to reducing maintenance costs. Of particular concern is failure as a result of cracking both sideways and vertical which may result in loss of all load paths through the mounting. By provision of independent cranks which are associated through crank pivots in apertures of the cranks and then articulation about central pivots provided in apertures and a central element along with pivot association of the struts through pivots created about apertures in the cranks load paths are maintained. By independent provision of the cranks sideways and vertical cracking cannot cause failure in both load paths to the arrangement from the struts.
