  • Patent number: 4651419
Abstract: A knife comprises three main parts: a handle, a blade and a removable spring lock guard. The handle, formed of two spaced apart lateral handle halves includes a blade pivot adjacent its forward end. The blade, configured as a double-ended, double-edged single blade, is mounted intermediate its ends to the blade pivot for rotation to positions in which one of its ends is contained within a slot provided between the handle halves while its opposite end extends forwardly of the handle for use. A spring lock guard is configured to releasably overlie the slot in the handle and confine the inoperative blade, thereby securely locking the single blade against inadvertent rotation during use.

  • Patent number: 4624512
Abstract: The main door of a freeze dryer is provided with a sub-opening arranged to register with the space between adjacent vertically adjustable freeze dryer shelves, for infeeding and outfeeding trays or other containers of material to and from each shelf. An entry chamber surrounds the sub-opening and has a sloping outer face provided with a resilient seal arranged to form a pressure tight seal with a sub-door movable by a fluid pressure piston-cylinder unit between positions opening and closing the entry passageway of the entry chamber. Photoelectric safety mechanism is associated with the entry passageway to prevent closing of the sub-door when any object is in the entry passageway.

  • Patent number: 4609866
Abstract: A portable electrical systems interference detector and locator comprises a circuitry housing box which mounts a two-piece antenna having forward section formed of dielectric material and a metal aft section which mounts both a folded dipole UHF driven antenna element and an active VHF driven extendable dipole antenna element. The locator includes circuitry by which both UHF and VHF inputs are received, amplified, and delivered to a field strength meter. Audio noise and/or signal output from the meter is delivered through an audio amplifier to a speaker for use by an operator for the purpose of locating the direction of strongest noise and/or signal whereby the location of a sparking or other defect in an electrical system can be ascertained.

  • Patent number: 4609248
Abstract: A cord and end fitting protector comprises a sleeve member configured to overlie the outer sheathing of an electrical cord or outer surface of other forms of cord and be crimped into tight frictional engagement thereon inwardly from the terminal end of the cord. The sleeve mounts an inwardly extending, substantially hollow enlarged sleeve member configured to encircle a further inward portion of the cord, for the purpose of providing an easily graspable member by which the cord may be pulled; for limiting the degree of arcuate bending of the cord to a desired maximum; and for providing an abutting stop which may receive impact and transmit the same to the outer sheathing of the cord in cases in which the cord is associated with an automatic rewind mechanism and the cord is inadvertently allowed to be uncontrollably rewound by the mechanism.

  • Patent number: 4602594
Abstract: Device for packing poultry in a box comprising an endless belt (19) running over a plurality of rolls (14-18) with horizontal axles and provided with spaced apart rows of fingers (20), which are hingedly connected with the belt (19) said belt (19) having an upwardly running part at which the fingers project forwardly and move from the floor with the belt and the picked-up poultry upwardly said poultry in normal position being taken over by a series of substantially horizontal guide cams (25) at the level of the top reverse roll (15) at which level the fingers are withdrawn and move downwardly with the belt while the poultry is taken over by endless belts (27,29) which feed them to a feed regulating device (30) which discharges into a box (36).

  • Patent number: 4593784
Abstract: A loudspeaker enclosure is arranged to support an electromagnetic loudspeaker of the type having both front and back acoustic waves, with the front of the speaker registering with a front wave opening in the enclosure and the back of the speaker communicating through a transmission line cavity with a port the plane of which is disposed substantially normal to the plane of the front wave opening and which port is provided with a cross sectional area of about 0.5 to about 2.0 times the operative area of the driver cone of the loudspeaker, thereby giving a highly efficient means of sound propagation. The enclosure may also house high frequency "tweeter" speakers which provide only a front wave. Acoustic murals and other type reflectors and deflectors may be associated with one or more of the enclosures in an assembly within a room to give the illusion of sound emanating from many more sources than there are loudspeaker enclosures.

  • Patent number: 4593674
Abstract: A compound archery bow of simplified construction includes a bowstring secured intermediate its ends to eccentrically pivoted cams mounted at the outer ends of the limbs secured to the opposite ends of a handle member. A control cable connects each cam pivot shaft, and therefore each limb, to a laterally projecting post on a lever mounted pivotally on the end of the handle member that secures the opposite limb. The end segments of the bowstring are trained around the cams and through the diametric center of each cam wherein the segments are secured. Each terminal end portion of the bowstring end segments is secured either to a winch located on the lever mounting the associated cam, or directly to said lever. The connection of the limbs to each other through the control cables and the bowstring end segments secured to the levers balance the flexure of the limbs relative to each other as well as the rotation of each cam as the bowstring is drawn back.

  • Patent number: 4592429
Abstract: A two-way gang plow is provided with a pair of front steering wheels muonted for steering adjustment relative to a pivoted front axle. The steering mechanism for the wheels is coupled to a steerable tail wheel through master and slave hydraulic cylinders in such manner that when a towing tractor turns in one direction the master cylinder moves with the turning of the front wheels and supplies hydraulic fluid pressure to the slave cylinder to operate the latter and turn the tail wheel in the direction opposite the turning direction of the front wheels. During roll-over from one operative side to the other, a lever mechanism is operated to turn the axle to correspond with the operative set of plow bottoms. Also, the plow bottoms are mounted pivotally on the plow frames and interconnected by parallel linkages for simultaneous adjustment of the lateral spacing between land sides of adjacent plow bottoms.

  • Patent number: 4589352
Abstract: A fluidized bed combustion apparatus in which in the free-board above the bed at least one system of plates or baffles inclined with respect to the vertical is arranged so that at least one upwardly directed channel having internally at least one group of two opposed arrays of superimposed inclined plates is formed, which plates at least alternately extend obliquely downwardly from the outside to the inside and are closely connected with the outer boundary of the channel. Preferably all plates of each array extend obliquely downwardly at an angle with the vertical within 20.degree.-50.degree. from the outside to the inside from a vertical wall defining said channel whereas the plates of the one array are off-set over a distance "s" in the vertical direction with respect to the plates of the other array.

  • Patent number: 4581277
Abstract: A decorative Christmas tree stand skirt comprises an elongated sheet of material which is folded into a plurality of transverse uniform pleats throughout its length. Registering holes are provided through the pleats adjacent one side edge of the material and a tie cord is inserted freely therethrough for adjustably securing the one side edge of the pleated material about the upper ring of a Christmas tree stand. A conventional two component Velcro type fastener is attached to the opposite longitudinal end edges of the material, one component on one edge of the material and the other component on the other edge of the material, for releasably fastening the opposite edges together, whereby the skirt completely encircles and hides the Christmas tree stand. The Velcro fastener may be released in order to separate the meeting radial edges of the skirt for permitting access to the tree stand water reservoir for refilling without necessitating removal of the encircling decorative skirt from the stand.
