Abstract: There is provided a bicycle head lamp employing an LED having high energy efficiency to be capable of provide sufficiently increased illuminance at a center position a predetermined distance ahead and also satisfying a predetermined distribution of light. A head lamp attached to a bicycle includes a casing, a plurality of adjacently arranged LEDs, and a lens arranged closer to an opening for each LED.
Abstract: The present invention relates to synthetic antigen-presenting matrices, their methods of making and their methods of use. One such matrix is cells that have been transfected to produce MHC antigen-presenting molecules and assisting molecules such as co-stimulatory molecules. The matrices can be used to activate CD8+ T-cells to produce cytokines and become cytotoxic.

Abstract: Apparatus and a method for removing particles from the surface of a substrate include determining respective position coordinates of the particles on the surface. A beam of electromagnetic energy is directed via an optical cleaning arm at the coordinates of each of the particles in turn, such that absorption of the electromagnetic energy at the surface causes the particles to be dislodged from the surface substantially without damage to the surface itself.

Abstract: A low pressure alarm assembly where a switch for activating a low pressure alarm is operably associated with a link assembly which is operably actuable in response to the movement of a pressure responsive element. In one embodiment, the link assembly incorporates a pointer which is adapted to sweep across the plate of a pressure gauge into contact with the switch to close the switch and activate the low pressure alarm.
Abstract: An optical fiber viewing assembly for an endoscope has a light guide with an elastically flexible portion and a substantially rigid pre-curved distal portion. The viewing assembly is particularly suited for traversing bends of relatively small radii in an endotracheal breathing tube without scraping accumulated biological material from the inner surface of the breathing tube that could collect on the distal end of the light guide and obscure the endoscopic view.

Abstract: Teaching apparatus, which includes an experimental setup (50) at a laboratory site (32) and a teaching setup at a teaching facility (12) remote from the laboratory site. The laboratory site includes one or more experimental controls (38) for varying one or more parameters of an experiment performed by the experimental setup, one or more monitoring device (42, 44) which capture information relating to the experiment, and a first communications interface (34) which couples the experimental controls and monitoring devices to a network (28).
Abstract: Compounds which inhibit tumor growth and angiogenesis, of general formula (II) are provided. These compounds include glycyl lysine derivatives bound to a central aromatic linking core.
Abstract: The invention relates to a catheter device including an optical fiber whose distal end is disposed within a hollow tube with a sharp or syringe shaped distal end, which may be inserted into tissue. The distal end of the optical fiber and the hollow tube are configured so as to emit, by refraction (total internal reflection) or reflection from a metal surface, laser energy at an angle of about 80° to about 90° relative to the longitudinal axis of the optical fiber and hollow tube. A first fluid channel within the distal end portion of the tube enables fluid to be infused to cool the distal end of the tube and to cool and clean the emission face of the optical fiber. A second, relatively larger diameter fluid channel in the tube enables the fluid, flowing through said first channel along with hot gasses from the vaporization of tissue, to exit the device through a second port in the tube, away from the tissue being treated.

Abstract: A kit of decorative pumpkins is disclosed where one of the pumpkins incorporates a rear opening large enough to allow the other pumpkins comprising the kit to be introduced therethrough for convenient storage within the one pumpkin. Each of the pumpkins can also incorporate pumpkin shell decorations thereon defined by shell cut-outs which define pliable peripheral edges adapted to be bent for altering the appearance of the shell decoration.

Abstract: An improved Venetian blind type window covering having an open position and a closed position is provided. When in a closed position, the window covering presents a face that conceals a securement member and an adjustment member. The window covering also includes a bottom rail, and a plurality of slats between the head rail and the bottom rail. The securement member and the adjustment member, in cooperation, are suitable for adjustably moving or tilting the plurality of blind slats to open and close the window covering. A blind slat tilting mechanism causes positional adjustment of the plurality of blind slats by raising and lowering at least the adjusting member.
Abstract: A four fiber ring network optical switching circuit capable of realizing the bridge function at times of the span switching and the ring switching economically by a very compact structure is disclosed. A four fiber ring network optical switching circuit is formed by a 10×8 optical matrix switch having ten input ports and eight output ports, and two branching elements adapted to branch each one of two optical signals among eight optical signals that are inputs of the four fiber ring network optical switching circuit, into two identical optical signals, and to enter the two identical optical signals into two input ports of the 10×8 optical matrix switch such that the eight optical signals are entered into the ten input ports of the 10×8 optical matrix switch as ten optical signals.
