  • Patent number: 6981413
Abstract: A handle stem attached to a head tube of a bicycle includes a speed indicator housed in an indicator housing. The indicator is formed of a body including a circuit board and a liquid-crystal display and a battery housing which is detachable from the body. The body is fixed to the indicator housing and accordingly the speed indicator is attached to the handle stem and the battery housing is freely attachable/detachable. The handle stem and the speed indicator are thus obtained with which batteries are easily replaced without detaching the whole of the indicator from the handle stem.

  • Patent number: 6970467
Abstract: A transfer scheme for speech and voice band signals and ISDN digital signals which is capable of reducing a transmission bandwidth required for communications of speech, FAX, voice band data and ISDN digital signals that are to be entered from the STM network to the ATM network, and reducing the ATM cell assembling delay time, is disclosed. In the ATM cell multiplexing at the transmitting side, the signal type judgement results for the signals entered from the STM network are notified to the ATM cell multiplexing unit, and these signals are multiplexed into the ATM cell according to the notified signal types so that it becomes possible to multiplex the signals for each input signal type separately, and it becomes possible to treat the STM signals with different network qualities for different signal types as a single ATM connection in which only the input signals with the same quality requirement are multiplexed within the ATM network.

  • Patent number: 6962930
Abstract: Compounds, composition and method for ameliorating alcohol or drug dependency withdrawal syndromes and withdrawal-induced brain damage are disclosed. In particular, a series of N-substituted-4-uredo-5,7-dihalo-2-carboxy quinoline compounds are disclosed having combined properties as antagonists of voltage-sensitive sodium channels (VSNaC) and as selective competitive antagonists at the strychnine-intensive glycine site of N-methyl-D-aspartate (NMDA) receptors. The disclosed compounds prevent or reduce the signs and symptoms of neurohyperexcitability and particularly the neurohyperexcitability associated with withdrawal syndrome manifested by patients upon withdrawal from chronic use of dependence inducing agents (e.g. ethanol, barbiturates, opiates etc.).

  • Patent number: 6959998
Abstract: The illuminator unit has a case body constituting the illuminator body. At the side peripheral portion of the case body, a side peripheral groove formed of an inward concave groove is provided through the full circumference. A rubber band is arranged along the side peripheral groove. With this configuration, it is possible to provide a portable illuminator unit whose body can be attached to a receiving member without the need of a bracket or the like, and whose attaching place can readily be changed.

  • Patent number: 6953458
Abstract: A laser energy delivery device and method are provided for irradiating a body tissue with relatively long wavelength laser energy in the presence of an aqueous liquid without significant absorption of the laser energy by the liquid. The device includes an elongate hollow sheath that is open at its distal end and closed at its proximal end, a laser energy conduit such as an optical fiber or hollow waveguide, within the sheath, the distal end of the conduit being disposed near the open distal end of the sheath, and the proximal end of the conduit being adapted for connection to a source of long wavelength laser energy. The sheath also includes an inlet port, spaced from the proximal end of the sheath, and adapted to receive and deliver a biologically compatible gas through the sheath to a body tissue site in contact with the open distal end of the sheath.

  • Patent number: 6949147
Abstract: Apparatus and a method for removing particles from the surface of a substrate include determining respective position coordinates of the particles on the surface. A beam of electromagnetic energy is directed via an optical cleaning arm at the coordinates of each of the particles in turn, such that absorption of the electromagnetic energy at the surface causes the particles to be dislodged from the surface substantially without damage to the surface itself.

  • Patent number: 6949261
Abstract: An isolate from the leaves of Gymnema sylvestre, having a specified molecular weight, is useful for the treatment of diabetes. The isolate has a molecular weight at least about 3000 Daltons as determined by molecular weight cut-off filtration. Glucose metabolism in a human patient is regulated by dosage forms that contain the aforesaid isolate from the leaves of Gymnema sylvestre, optionally in combination with a non-metabolizable polysaccharide such as the exudate of Sterculia urens.

  • Patent number: 6946151
Abstract: An oral composition, suitable as a hypoglycemic agent, includes an isolate from the leaves of Gymnema sylvestre, having a specified molecular weight. The isolate has a molecular weight at least about 3000 Daltons as determined by molecular weight cut-off filtration. Glucose metabolism in a human patient can be regulated by dosage forms that contain the aforesaid isolate from the leaves of Gymnema sylvestre, in combination with a non-metabolizable, water-swellable polysaccharide such as the exudate of Sterculia urens, and a water-soluble polysaccharide such as guar gum. Optionally, the present oral compositions can include a physiologically acceptable calcium source, a physiologically acceptable metal carbonate salt, a physiologically acceptable chromium salt, and/or a physiologically acceptable vanadium compound. In addition, antioxidants such as ascorbic acid, cholecalciferol, d-?-tocopherol, the carotenoids, lycopene, lutein, and the like, can be included as well.

  • Patent number: 6947906
Abstract: The invention provides a method for conducting a computerized auction of government-held property that is subject to a tiered restriction process. The sale or transfer of a government-held asset can be restricted as to the community a potential buyer must be a member of and specific attributes of the buyer. The buyer is only allowed to bid on those assets for which his organizational community and attributes match those specified by the seller. Government agency sellers set up and define their own asset profile codes comprising community groups, which permits the seller to restrict the sale of a particular asset to as large or small a community as the seller desires and enables the government agency to accommodate any regulations or procedures that might be in place for a particular asset.

  • Patent number: 6942610
Abstract: A web folding machine for folding a continuously fed web into folded segments is disclosed. The machine includes a frame upon which the other components of the machine are mounted. A web supply provides continuous web material to these other components of the machine, with multiple feeds of the web material being processed in parallel relationship to one another. In one embodiment of the invention, web is pulled from a web supply by a pull roll station, which engages the web material to feed it at an approximately constant feed rate to a metering roll station. After proceeding through the metering roll station, the web reaches the folding station, where the web it is folded into a folded segment. In yet another embodiment of the invention, the web is first fed to a folding board that folds the web longitudinally. After the web is folded longitudinally by the folding board, it is fed to a pivoting marker web guide station that periodically pivots to vertically displace the web to create a marker.
