  • Patent number: 5864253
Abstract: Data are transmitted from a control device through an interface cable to a set of driver devices in synchronization with an external clock signal, or a complementary pair of external clock signals. The signal line or lines carrying the external clock signal or signals are terminated at both ends by resistors with resistance values matching the characteristic impedance of the interface cable. Each driver device has a comparator that compares the external clock signal with a regulated reference voltage, or compares the two complementary external clock signals with each other, and thereby generates an internal clock signal. The driver devices receive the data in synchronization with these internal clock signals.

  • Patent number: 5863076
Abstract: A printed sheet product is formed by a core of printable sheet material having a pair of opposing major planar sides. At least one side bears printing. A plurality of magnetizable stripes are laid down over at least one major side of the core in spaced parallel lines extending across the one major side of the core. Scoring extending sufficiently through the sheet product including the core and each of the magnetizable stripes to define a plurality of tag elements removable from the sheet. The tag elements are of an identical shape. Each tag element bears at least part of at least one of the magnetizable stripes and part of the printing. The scoring further defines a hole extending transversely through each removable tag element of the sheet. The printing includes a unique code in characters, bar codes or both. Labels bearing the same codes can be simultaneously prepared by the printing and scoring of the core and providing a pressure sensitive adhesive layer on the sheet product behind each label.

  • Patent number: 5860782
Abstract: A container seaming machine has a first drive for positioning a seaming roller with respect to a circumferential edge of the lid, and a second drive for rotating the seaming roller with respect to a container lid chuck, container body and container lid. The first drive and the second drive are independently controllable from each other, and each drive is controlled and coordinated by a programmable controller to seam the lid to the container body. Another drive, also controlled by the programmable controller, lifts the container body toward the chuck and allows for varying degrees of force to be exerted between the container body and the lid. The drives use servomotors and linear actuators for precise positioning control. A process for displacing air from containers prior to seaming a lid to a container is also provided. In the process, a container body is filled with contents and is then injected with liquid nitrogen.

  • Patent number: 5861809
Abstract: A resonant tag used with an electronic article surveillance system for detecting the presence of the tag within a surveilled area utilizing electromagnetic energy at a frequency within a predetermined detection frequency range includes a resonant circuit capable of resonating at a frequency within the predetermined detection frequency range. The resonant circuit includes an inductor formed at least in part on a surface of a dielectric substrate of the tag. The inductor is formed with a discontinuity or gap, causing an electrical open circuit. The open circuit is closed with a fuse secured proximate to the gap and wirebonded to the portions of the inductor proximate to the gap. The fuse is melted by a current greater than a predetermined level flowing therethrough. Such a high current may be induced in the inductor by an external electromagnetic field. Melting of the fuse causes an open circuit condition, which alters the frequency at which the tag resonates.

  • Patent number: 5859770
Abstract: An output circuit for a PWM inverter is provided which has an N-type first power device and a P-type second power device. Gates of the first and second power devices are connected to each other. Also, emitters of the first and second power devices are connected to each other. An input electrode control circuit controls the voltage applied to the common gates with respect to the common emitters. The voltage may be a positive or negative value, or zero. The input electrode control circuit controls the conduction states of the two power devices based upon the states of input light emitting devices associated with a first and second photocoupler (current generator). When both of the photocouplers are not lit, no current is generated and the conduction states of the power devices are instantaneously interrupted.

  • Patent number: 5856407
Abstract: A bimodal, crosslinked toner resin can be prepared in non-aqueous solvent, e.g., toluene, using standard solution polymerization techniques. The resin-forming process prepares a precursor resin from ethylenically unsaturated monomer(s), and then grafts maleic anhydride onto the precursor resin to form a modified precursor resin. The modified precursor resin is reacted with a polyfunctional molecule, e.g. a diol, to provide a crosslinked resin. The process is preferably conducted in the presence of a low molecular weight polymeric additive, e.g., polystyrene, to provide a bimodal as well as crosslinked toner resin composition. With the addition of a colorant, a toner powder may be formed.

  • Patent number: 5853808
Abstract: Silsesquioxane polymers that are useful for preparing SiO.sub.2 -rich ceramic coatings are obtained as the polymeric reaction products from the hydrolysis and condensation of organosilanes having a .beta.-substituted alkyl group. A preferred silsesquioxane polymer is the polymeric reaction product obtained from .beta.-chloroethyltrichlorosilane. Coating compositions containing such silsesquioxane polymers dissolved in organic solvent may be applied to a substrate and converted to SiO.sub.2 -rich ceramic thin layers by evaporating the solvent and heating the coated substrate at moderate temperatures.
