Abstract: A bicycle pedal assembly includes a pedal body, a coiled spring member and a pedal shaft. The pedal body has a frame portion and a tubular portion which partitions the frame portion. A cleat engaging unit is connected to the tubular portion. The coiled spring member interconnects the frame portion and an end of the tubular portion in order to position revertably the cleat engaging unit at a predetermined angle with respect to the frame portion. The pedal shaft extends through the coiled spring member and the tubular portion so that the frame portion is rotatable about the pedal shaft. The pedal shaft has a first end which extends beyond the frame portion and a second end which engages rotatably the tubular portion.

The anode includes an extruded galvanically active metal rod and integrally formed end cap which has a cylindrically shaped portion with a threaded exterior surface. The anode is formed by extruding the rod, forging the end cap from the anchoring end portion of the rod, and machining the outer surface of the end cap to provide threads.
Abstract: The invention relates to new compounds with the general formula I for use as a tool to introduce macromolecules into cells. The invention further relates to compositions for introducing macromolecules into cells, comprising vesicles formed by at least one compound in a solvent. The macromolecule can be incorporated in the vesicles and/or bound to the vesicles or another aggregate of the new compounds. In a preferred embodiment at least one targeting molecule, for instance a (labelled) antibody, may further be attached to the vesicles.

Abstract: Battery pack for use in various electronic products are pivotably connected together by two parallel link assemblies which permit the two portions of the battery pack to be folded with respect to one another into various configurations. Each link assembly includes a rotary electrical connection, one link providing a supply path and the other link supplying a return path to the batteries in both casings. Wiper type contacts are supplied in each link. External contacts may be located in one of the two casings or one contact may be located on each of the two casings. In one embodiment a flexible printed circuit board wire trace is used to provide an electrical connection between opposing poles of cells in the two casings to eliminate the rotary electrical connection and potential for failure across such connection while still providing multiple configuration adjustability.

Two novel toxin genes from B.t. strain EG5847 designated cryET4 and cryET5 produce insecticidal proteins with activity against a broad spectrum of insects of the order Lepidoptera. The cryET4 gene has a nucleotide base sequence shown in FIG. 1 and listed in SEQ ID NO:1 and produces a CryET4 gene product having the deduced amino acid sequence shown in FIG. 1 and listed in SEQ ID NO:2. The cryET5 gene has a nucleotide base sequence shown in FIG. 2 and listed in SEQ ID NO:3 and produces a CryET5 gene product having the deduced amino acid sequence shown in FIG. 2 and listed in SEQ ID NO:4.

Abstract: A specimen slide (1) for a microscope, camera or other such observation device has a receiving area (2) for cell or tissue samples or other such organic material and a smaller observation area (3) for the organic material. The specimen slide (1) at least in the observation area is made of transparent material. Within the receiving area (2) the specimen slide (1) is provided with thin-film sensors (6 to 12) adjacent to the observation area (3) for measuring physiological parameters of the organic material. The chemical and physical characteristics of the organic material under observation can be picked up by the sensors while it is observed, for example under a microscope. Sensors of differing types can be provided, such as interdigital capacitors (6), NO sensors (8), O.sub.2 sensors (9) or temperature sensors (11), thereby making available important physiological measurement and/or control parameters.

Abstract: The present invention discovery of a printer having a particular printer type in a network is disclosed. A socket having a socket identifier (ID)) associated with the printer type is provided to allow communication between the network and the printer. In a socket poll mode, the socket awaits and obtains outgoing data from the network tagged with the socket ID and sends the obtained outgoing data to the printer. In a socket listen mode, the socket awaits and obtains incoming data from the printer and sends the obtained incoming data to the network. A printer information object is provided for storing printer information associated with the printer once the printer is discovered. A timer provides a periodic timing signal TICK. The printer is periodically polled once every N TICKs.
