  • Patent number: 5792329
Abstract: The invention relates to a method to measure an electro-chemical activity of a non-metallic liquid layer lying on a molten bath by means of a measuring cell with an electro-chemical element which has an active part and with a counter electrode. The invention also relates to a measuring cell to measure an electro-chemical activity. In order to achieve exact measuring results of an electro-chemical activity with the least possible expenditure, the measuring cell is dipped through a non-metallic liquid layer into a molten bath, the active part of the electro-chemical element being surrounded by the non-metallic liquid layer of the material of this layer on insertion, this material being held at the electro-chemical element until after measuring the electro-chemical activity and the measurement being carried out after dipping the electro-chemical element into the molten metal within the molten bath. The electro-chemical element is especially developed to enable that the material to be measured adheres to it.

  • Patent number: 5793302
Abstract: A transaction system wherein, when a transaction, document or thing needs to be authenticated, information associated with one or more of the parties involved is coded together to produce a joint code. This joint code is then utilized to code information relevant to the transaction, document or record, in order to produce a variable authentication number (VAN) at the initiation of the transaction. This VAN is thereafter associated with the transaction and is recorded on the document or thing, along with the original information that was coded. During subsequent stages of the transaction, only parties capable of reconstructing the joint code will be able to uncode the VAN properly in order to re-derive the information. The joint code serves to authenticate the parties, and the comparison of the re-derived information against the information recorded on the document serves to authenticate the accuracy of that information.

Abstract: A paper product has a first sheet with a pattern of spaced openings permitting separation into sections and a second sheet releasably attached to the first sheet with a pattern of continuous curvilinear openings dividing the sheet into sections and being aligned with the openings of the first sheet. A die sheet for a die for cutting material includes a die sheet surface with a die pattern extending outwardly from the die sheet surface. The die pattern has slitting sections providing curvilinear, continuous openings through a second sheet of the material and spaced perforating sections extending above the slitting sections providing a pattern of spaced openings in the first sheet adjacent to the openings through the second sheet. A first method of constructing a die sheet includes covering a die surface with a first, spaced pattern of a first photo-resist material and then covering the first pattern with a second, continuous pattern of a second photo-resist material.

  • Patent number: 5789599
Abstract: Novel N-sulfinyl-2-carboxyaziridine compounds and novel N-hydrogen-2-hydroxymethylaziridine compounds are provided. The asymmetric synthesis of N-sulfinylaziridines is readily accomplished in high diastereomeric purity and good yield by the Darzens-type reaction of the metal enolate of an .alpha.-haloester and an enantiopure sulfinimine. Ring-opening of these aziridines affords .alpha.-amino acids and the otherwise difficult to prepare syn-.beta.-hydroxy-.alpha.-amino acids, both key structural units found in many bioactive materials. The N-sulfinyl radical may be selectively removed from the novel aziridine compounds by treatment with acid or base. Alternatively, the N-sulfinyl radical may be oxidized to provide the corresponding N-sulfonyl-aziridine, or reduced to form the corresponding 1H-2-hydroxymethylaziridine, either of which may subsequently be ring-opened to provide precursors to bioactive compounds.

  • Patent number: 5785508
Abstract: In a diaphragm pump flap valves accommodated in a pump head are provided which have a valve disk in which are situated valve flaps (14) circumscribed by partial ring-shaped recesses. These are respectively flexibly connected with the remaining valve disk (15) by means of a web (17). The valve disk is clamped between pump head elements in an area circumscribing each respective valve. In order to avoid material displacements and deformations resulting from the clamping from acting upon the web and the valve flap (14), it is provided that an opening (19) of the valve disk (15) is situated in a connecting area between valve flap (14), web (17) and outer clamping (18), facing away from the valve flap (14). Material displacements originating from the clamping area (18) can thereby no longer influence the valve flap (14) and the web (17), since a transmission of these material deformations is interrupted in the area of the opening (19).

  • Patent number: 5786401
Abstract: A polyurethane foam is constituted by using a blowing agent selected from the group consisting of iodofluorohydrocarbons, perfluoroalkenes and hydrogen-containing fluoromorpholine derivatives. These blowing agents have a low thermal conductivity and a short life in the air, and thus impose no or very small load such as ozone layer depletion potential (ODP) and global warming potential (GWP) on the environment. The iodofluorohydrocarbon, in particular, can give an incombustibility and self-extinguishing property to the conventionally used inflammable substance such as cyclopentane or the like, and thus is also advantageous from the viewpoint of safety of the thermal insulating material.
