  • Patent number: 4832319
Abstract: A vibration absorbing apparatus disposed between a vibration source and a vibration receiving portion and having a tubular member which is formed such as to pass through an expandable liquid chamber and which is attached to one of the vibration source and the vibration receiving portion. A partitioning plate is secured to the outer periphery of the tubular member such as to divide the liquid chamber into a plurality of liquid sub-chambers. The liquid sub-chambers communicate with each other via an orifice. Accordingly, even if the direction in which vibration acts upon the apparatus is shifted, it is possible to prevent the occurrence of "pinch" between the partitioning plate and the tubular member.

  • Patent number: 4831838
Abstract: In a double air-fuel sensor system including two air-fuel ratio sensors upstream and downstream of a catalyst converter provided in an exhaust gas passage, an actual air-fuel ratio is adjusted in accordance with the outputs of the upstream-side and downstream-side air-fuel ratio sensors including an air-fuel ratio correction amount. Also, a learning correction amount is calculated so that a mean value of the air-fuel ratio correction amount is brought close to a reference value. The actual air-fuel ratio is further adjusted in accordance with the learning correction amount.

  • Patent number: 4833209
Abstract: This disclosure relates to a process for cross-linking polymers, e.g. polyethylene, or degrading polymers, e.g. polypropylene, using peroxides having at least one carbon-carbon double bond in the molecule, e.g. 1-(t-butyl peroxy isopropyl)-3-isopropenylbenzene.Incorporation of the peroxides into the polymer may be carried out at relatively high temperatures without the risk of premature decomposition of the peroxide, thus allowing easy processability of the polymer mass prior to cross-linking or degradation. The polymeric end products obtained are odorless and do not display blooming.

  • Patent number: 4827714
Abstract: A fuel system for a gas turbine engine in which there is provided a filter 20 having its output connected to the fuel control system 24 that controls fuel flow to the main combustors 26 of the engine. A bypass pipe 25, which has a pressure relief valve 29, by-passes the filter 20 and is connected to the inlet of a fuel control system 23 that controls the flow of fuel to the reheat burners 28 of the engine. A connecting pipe 30 connects the output of the filter to the reheat fuel control system. In normal operation, filtered fuel is supplied to both fuel control systems 24, 27 and there is no flow in the filter by-pass pipe 25. As the filter 20 becomes progressively blocked, filtered fuel is supplied to the main combustors 26 irrespective of whether or not reheat is required. When reheat is selected, and the filter 20 is too blocked to meet the flow demand, relief valve 29 opens to supply unfiltered flow to the reheat burners.

  • Patent number: 4823716
Abstract: A sewing machine capable of forming a line of stitches along the edge of a workpiece, while the needle is reciprocated by a needle bar relative to the workpiece in a feeding movement. The needle bar is supported by an oscillator which is joggable in a lateral direction substantially perpendicular to the feeding direction. A sensor is provided to detect the fabric edge, by emitting a radiation toward a reflecting surface provided on the work bed of the machine. The sensor determines the position of the fabric edge by detecting an amount of the reflected radiation received. The reflecting surface has a concave shape in cross section taken in a vertical plane parallel to the feeding direction. The lateral jogging movement of the oscillator is controlled according to the amount of the reflected radiation received by the sensor, so that the line of stitches is spaced apart from the edge of the workpiece by a predetermined distance.

  • Patent number: 4823755
Abstract: In a two stroke fuel injection type internal combustion engine provided with intake and exhaust valves, a basic amount of fuel to be injected is calculated in accordance with an engine load and engine speed. Values of a factor corresponding to a ratio of air captured by an engine cylinder for combustion to the total amount of air introduced into the engine are stored in a memory in accordance with combinations of an engine load and engine speed. A value of a captured air factor corresponding to a detected combination of an engine load and speed is calculated by a map interpolation. The basic amount is corrected by the captured air factor so that a desired air-fuel ratio is obtained. The captured air factor may be further corrected in accordance with a secondary engine condition, other than an engine load and speed, such as a cooling water temperature, intake air temperature, atmospheric air temperature, atmospheric air pressure, exhaust gas temperature, or intake pressure.

  • Patent number: 4822016
Abstract: A sheet sorter delivers sheets introduced seriatim from a host unit such as a copier onto a plurality of removable stationary sheet receiving trays through its pivotable sheet guide and discharge mechanism having four pivotal axes. The sheet guide and discharge mechanism is pivotably supported at its one end on two fixed pivotal axes so that the mechanism can be pivotally swung up and down about the two fixed pivotal axes. At the other end of the sheet guide and discharge mechanism, which is unsupported, are disposed the other two pivotal axes and sheet discharge rollers. The swinging motion of the mechanism is achieved by a Geneva drive mechanism including a first driving motor so that the level of the sheet discharge roller is sequentially shifted to be aligned with each of the tray levels and the sheets are seriatim sorted onto the respective trays. The sorter has a second driving motor for driving the sheet discharge rollers.

  • Patent number: 4822491
Abstract: A continuous high flow rate process for the transport of metal ions from a first aqueous liquid to a nonaqueous, water-immiscible liquid and therefrom to a second aqueous liquid. The nonaqueous liquid contains one or more complexing agents and is kept separated from the metal-ion-transferring aqueous liquid by one or more microporous hydrophobic membranes. A portion of the nonaqueous liquid is found in the pores of these membranes. The bulk of the nonaqueous liquid, however, is circulated through two or more transport zones. The transport of the metal ions to the second aqueous liquid occurs by mechanically mixing the nonaqueous liquid with the second aqueous liquid to form a mixture having an aqueous phase. The aqueous phase is separated from the mixture by means of an isolation process using membranes. The present process is well suited for processes involving the coupled co-transport and counter-transport of metal ions and can be used advantageously in ore dressing and wastewater treatment.

  • Patent number: 4821686
Abstract: A two-stroke internal combustion engine comprising a cylinder head 14 having combustion chambers 18 with two intake valves 24 and two exhaust valves 26 arranged therein. Two intake manifolds 30 and 32, respectively, have branch pipes connected to each respective intake port 24. An intake control valve 48 l is arranged in one of the manifold 32, which closes at idling and under a low load of the engine. Further, a swirl S is generated about an axis of the combustion chamber 18 by a portion of exhaust gas caused to flow back from the exhaust ports 22 into the combustion chamber 18 after being once exhausted through the exhaust ports when the exhaust valves are opened, resulting in a two layered stratification in the combustion chamber between fresh air and remaining exhaust gas. A supply of fuel causees a further three layered stratification among a fuel mixture, fresh air, and burned gas, by supplying fuel at alternating cycles of the engine when the engine is under a low load.
