Abstract: Method and apparatus for controlling an electromagnetic powder clutch connected to a vehicle engine and including a coil for engaging the powder clutch to transmit an output torque of the engine as a function of an electric current to be applied to the coil such that a variation in the engine torque is absorbed by a slip of the powder clutch. An optimum amount of slip of the powder clutch is determined based on a currently required engine output and a detected output speed of the clutch. A basic control value for controlling a magnitude of the electric current to be applied to the coil is determined based on the detected engine torque, such that the determined magnitude of the electric current permits engagement of the clutch so as to transmit the detected engine output torque. The basic control value is compensated for the determined optimum amount of slip of the clutch, thereby adjusting the transmission torque of the clutch so as to absorb the variation in the output torque of the engine.

Abstract: A high strength ceramic honeycomb structure includes a number of quadrilateral cells arranged adjacent to each other. Triangular cells are arranged in a zone in the proximity of an outer circumference of the honeycomb structure. Partitions of the triangular cells are oblique to partitions forming the quadrilateral cells and extending substantially toward a center of the honeycomb structure. Abstract: A printer having a ribbon lift mechanism for lifting a ribbon from a rest position to a printing position. The printer operates in two different modes, that is, a printer mode in which characters are printed according to the data in a memory and a typewriter mode in which characters are printed according to the data from a keyboard. The ribbon is returned from the printing position to the rest position when no subsequent data comes from the memory within a first preset time interval in the printer mode or when no subsequent data comes from the keyboard within a second preset time interval in the typewriter mode. The second time interval is preset shorter than the first time inteval in order to print successively in the printer mode and to put back the ribbon to the rest position quickly when an operator needs to check the print on a printing paper in the typewriter mode.

A valve housing is fixed onto the outer wall of the fuel inlet pipe. A cam and a normally closed control valve actuated by the cam and controlling the fluid connection between the canister and the interior of the fuel tank are arranged in the valve housing. The cam shaft of the cam is mechanically connected to the rotary shaft of the closure valve. When the closure valve is opened by the fuel pump nozzle, the control valve is opened by the cam to feed the fuel vapor in the fuel tank into the canister.

Abstract: A system for controlling an engine torque is provided, wherein the engine torque is changed by predetermined values when an automatic transmission is shifting to satisfactorily maintain the shift characteristics of an automatic transmission. An operating area for controlling the engine torque change and/or the predetermined values are corrected in accordance with temperature in an exhaust system of engine, or the frequency of the engine torque change. As a result, rise in temperature in the exhaust system, worsened fuel consumption rate and deteriorated contents of exhaust gas, which are caused due to the frequent torque changes can be avoided.
