  • Patent number: 4802456
Abstract: An engine comprising a mechanically driven charger arranged in the intake passage downstream of the throttle valve. A bypass passage is branched from the intake passage between the throttle valve and the mechanically driven charger and connected to the intake passage downstream of the mechanically driven charger. A relief valve is arranged in the bypass passage to control the maximum charging pressure produced in the intake passage downstream of the mechanically driven charger. The relief valve is controlled so that the maximum charging pressure is increased when the engine is operating at a low or middle speed, and the maximum charging pressure is reduced when the engine is operating at a high speed.

  • Patent number: 4802658
Abstract: A vibration isolating apparatus is interposed between a vibration generating portion and a vibration receiving portion. The apparatus includes a main body which has a portion thereof constituted by a resilient member. The main body is provided with a liquid chamber which is capable of being expanded and contracted. The liquid chamber is divided by a partition member into small liquid chambers which are communicated with each other through an orifice. The orifice is able to absorb low-frequency vibrations but unable to absorb high-frequency vibrations. For this reason, a resilient membrane is provided between the small liquid chambers in such a manner as to suppress the rise in pressure inside the small liquid chambers so that high-frequency vibrations are also absorbed.

  • Patent number: 4800781
Abstract: In a system for integrally controlling an automatic transmission and an engine, an ignition timing is temporarily lagged during shifting to decrease an engine torque. The system comprises a detecting device for detecting the presence of a shifting condition; a delaying device for delaying the commencement of actual shifting for a predetermined time duration; and a performing device for performing a fuel increase immediately after the presence of the shifting condition is detected. As a result, a decrease in the engine torque due to ignition timing control is satisfactorily secured, while exhaust gas temperature is prevented from rising, whereby temperature in an exhaust system is precluded from raising beyond an allowable value.

Abstract: The invention is directed to a method and apparatus for copying images on a master microfiche film into a copy microfiche film. An apparatus in accordance with the present invention comprises an endless tensioning belt threaded around belt rollers, the tensioning belt pressing the master film and the copy film into intimate contact with each other and with an exposure surface, such that there is substantially no slippage between the exposure surface, the master film, the copy film and the tensioning belt. After leaving the exposure station, the copy film is passed through a development section and then through a cooling section. Drive means are provided for driving the copy film. In one aspect of the present invention, the master film and the tensioning belt are passively driven by the drive means by virtue of contact between the copy film and each of the master film and the tensioning belt, and the exposure surface is rotated by virtue of contact with the master film.

  • Patent number: 4802214
Abstract: An in-band television signal scrambling method and apparatus are disclosed which employ a scrambler which receives and scrambles a television signal and one or more descramblers for restoring the scrambled television signal to an unscrambled condition. A tier level encoding scheme is used to identify and render operative predetermined descramblers. The scrambler encodes tier level coding information in the form of whiter-than-white pulses on a scrambled television signal, these pulses being detected by the descramblers, with only those descramblers identified by the tier level coding information being rendered operative to unscramble the scrambled television signal. The descramblers preferably employ a plug-in module into which the tier level coding information assigned to a particular scrambler can be programmed.

  • Patent number: 4799387
Abstract: In an automatic ultrasonic testing method for automatically detecting an internal flaw of articles such as a solid-core station post insulator and a long-rod insulator in which ultrasonic noises are liable to be generated in ultrasonic testing waveform, use is made of a standard waveform having a plurality of maximum peak hold data in predetermined intervals at all the detecting points and obtained by detecting the normal article including the ultrasonic noises, with which ultrasonic testing waveforms of an article to be tested are compared. Therefore, it is possible to eliminate an instability of the ultrasonic testing waveform and to detect a flaw echo having a level lower than that of the ultrasonic noises.

  • Patent number: 4799707
Abstract: In a gas suspension system for controlling a body attitude of a vehicle, a controller drives a compressor and control valves to supply compressed air to a high pressure reserve tank. After enough air is supplied to the high pressure reserve tank, the compressor is stopped and the control valves are shut, whereby high pressure air remains at the delivery port of the compressor. Then a specially provided connection control valve is opened for a predetermined period in order to put the delivery port of the compressor in communication with a low pressure reserve tank. The pressure at the delivery port thus can be decreased, resulting in less torque needed to start the compressor.
