  • Patent number: 7130501
Abstract: A design is presented for an N×N crossbar switch. A crossbar switch is one of the basic components of Optical Switching Networks. An optical N×N switch has the capability of connecting any light beam from the input of the switch to any output of the switch without interfering with other light beams. That is each single input is connected to one and only one of the output ports without interfering with any other beam or beams. The design presented is based on the use of precision meso-scale mechanics of the size typically found in miniature disc drives and meso-scale optical components. This meso-scale mechanics is then controlled or driven by precision servo-electronics and software to achieve the correct switching. The precision servomechanisms, meso-scale mechanics, electronics and software control are designed to work together to self-compensate for assembly or manufacturing defects and deleterious environmental, including temperature, effects.

  • Patent number: 7125176
Abstract: High speed high data interconnect apparatus includes a stiffening plate with optical fiber mounting groove defined on a surface thereof. The apparatus further includes a length of optical fiber mounted in the groove on the surface of the stiffening plate in a longitudinally extending direction generally parallel to the surface of the stiffening plate. A reflecting surface is positioned adjacent one, or both, of the opposed ends of the optical fiber to direct light at an angle of approximately ninety degrees to the optical path. A printed circuit board laminate is used to encase the stiffening plate and the optical fiber and includes a light via for the passage of light reflected by the reflecting surface. Bond pads are formed on a surface of the printed circuit board laminate adjacent the light via for the electrical connection of a light element, e.g. a VCSEL or photodiode, in communication with the light via.

  • Patent number: 7111732
Abstract: A Christmas tree decoration organizer including a box having a bottom and upwardly extending opposing sides and end walls, terminating in a rim. A plurality of ornament hangers having opposing ends are removably coupled within the box, suspended above the bottom for receiving and supporting a plurality of hanging ornaments. A bulk storage space for storing outermost decorations of a Christmas tree is defined by the bottom, lower portions of the opposing sides and the end walls, and the plurality of ornament hangers. An ornament tray is positioned within the box and supported above the plurality of ornament hangers for receiving and holding a plurality of Christmas tree ornaments. A separator panel is removably positioned covering the ornament tray and defining a light compartment thereabove. A cover is removable placed over the rim, closing the box.

  • Patent number: 7104503
Abstract: Aircraft loading apparatus includes a frame removably attachable to an aircraft (e.g. a helicopter). The frame is constructed for assembly and disassembly in a transitional position and includes a pair of raising and lowering mechanisms. The mechanisms include a pair of belts with free ends attachable to form a sling and connected for simultaneous extension or retraction of equal lengths of each belt. In operation, the frame is attached to the aircraft adjacent an area at which an article (e.g. an auxiliary fuel tank) is to be connected. The article is positioned under the frame and the belts are extended to form a sling around the article. The mechanisms are activated to simultaneously retract equal lengths of each belt to raise the article into a connecting position, the article is connected, and the frame is disassembled into a removable configuration and removed from the aircraft.
