Patent number: 5116335Abstract: An intramedullary device for use in internal fixation of a fracture transverse to the longitudinal axis of a long bone which includes a substantially rigid center rod having a plurality of longitudinal slots extending along the length thereof. One of a plurality of generally flexible outer rods is received and retained within one of the longitudinal slots and thereby extend outwardly from the center rod. Each outer rod has a retention section angulated from the longitudinal axis of the long bone which penetrates through and is retained by the cancellous bone thereby stabilizing the fracture at the distal and proximal ends of the long bone. In order to install the intramedullary device within the endosteal canal, each end of the generally flexible outer rods are coupled to one of a plurality of extension rods of an installation device. The generally rigid center rod is introduced through the central opening of the installation device and thus extends into the endosteal canal.Type: GrantFiled: September 18, 1989Date of Patent: May 26, 1992Inventors: Gerard T. Patent number: 5057251Abstract: An improved contact body element, for use in forming the fill of a gas and liquid contact apparatus to produce interaction between a gas and liquid flowing through the apparatus, of the type having formed sheet members with a longitudinally extending edge of the sheet member folded over on a longitudinally extending surface of the corrugated member. This provides a strip of sheet material secured in overlapping relationship to the surface of the formed sheet member forming a full gap therebetween. An adhesive with intumescent qualities, which are triggered by heat, is applied within the fold such that the longitudinal edge and longitudinal surface in cooperation with the adhesive form a substantially rigid ply that is substantially resistant to erosion and can withstand higher compressive forces and which will expand in the event of fire, to block the openings between the sheets. The sheet edge may be slitted along its length to facilitate this blockage.Type: GrantFiled: December 7, 1989Date of Patent: October 15, 1991Assignee: Munters CorporationInventor: Jan O. Skold

Patent number: 5055239Abstract: A gas and liquid contact body for use in a gas and liquid contact apparatus in which gas and liquid flow in cross flow relationship to one another is disclosed. The contact body is formed of a plurality of sheets of corrugated material having first and second opposed edges with corrugations formed in the sheets extending at an angle to the edges and abutting each other at points in adjacent sheets to form through-passing channels for gas and liquid. The first and second edges of the sheets define gas inlet and outlet edges in the contact body. Either the gas inlet edge or the gas outlet edge, or both, have a plurality of generally channel shaped notches formed therein so that liquid flowing through the contact body will agglomerate at the notches. The agglomerated liquid will flow downwardly along the gas inlet edge of the contact body to clean the sheet at that gas inlet edge.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 1990Date of Patent: October 8, 1991Assignee: Munters CorporationInventor: Patricia T. Patent number: 5053893Abstract: A magnetic recording medium such as a magnetic recording tape or disk is demagnetized by applying a saturating magnetic field to the magnetic recording medium, then applying an unsaturating magnetic field to the magnetic recording medium in a direction opposite to the direction of the saturating magnetic field, and finally applying an alternating magnetic field to the magnetic recording medium to remove residual magnetism which has been produced on the magnetic recording medium by the unsaturating magnetic field. The saturating, unsaturating, and alternating magnetic fields are generated respectively by a first DC erasing head, a second DC erasing head, and an AC erasing head, which are arranged at spaced intervals in the order named in the direction in which the magnetic recording medium is continuously moved.Type: GrantFiled: July 6, 1990Date of Patent: October 1, 1991Assignee: Fuji Photo Film Co., Ltd.Inventors: Youichi Hayata, Michihiro Matsui
