  • Patent number: 4694370
Abstract: A magnetic disk cartridge containing a floppy magnetic disk is provided with center core which has a groove where the vertical part of the core meets the flange upon which the disk is fastened by a double-sided adhesive ring. This groove can accommodate a portion of the adhesive ring which is positioned out of true. This ensures that such misalignment does not cause deformation of the disk and the deterioration in read/write performance with the disk. The groove also serves to prevent flange flashing from scraping fragments off the inside of the cartridge wall, and the possible harm such fragments cause if they stick to the disk.

  • Patent number: 4683526
Abstract: An asymmetric lamp with an improved reflector assembly is disclosed. The lamp includes a head, a socket for receiving a light bulb, and a front reflector. The socket and the front reflector are mounted in the head. When the light bulb is inserted into the socket, the light bulb defines a transverse axis. The front reflector has a longitudinal cross-sectional shape that is either generally hyperbolic, generally parabolic, or generally elliptic. The front reflector is formed from a plurality of triangular facets. Adjacent facets define a line that is nonparallel to the transverse axis defined by the light bulb. The front reflector is mounted in the head so that the rear edge of the front reflector is positioned proximate the top of the light bulb. The lamp may include a back reflector, preferably made from a nonconductive material. The back reflector is positioned proximate the rear edge of the front reflector.

  • Patent number: 4683110
Abstract: An apparatus for consolidating spent fuel rods from spent fuel assemblies includes a container with a bottom and front, back, and side walls. The container has a plurality of flutes positioned adjacent to the front wall, and the plurality of flutes defines a plurality of channels. The apparatus also includes a plurality of springs, which are mounted on a support. The springs bear against the flutes and the channels when no fuel rods have been inserted into the container and the support is located proximate the front wall. The springs assist in guiding a fuel rod into a preselected location in the container; the springs are capable of maintaining the fuel rod in the preselected location. Preferably, each spring is a resilient finger that extends outwardly from the support toward the front wall. The support may be a movable sheet. The apparatus advantageously includes a device for moving the support. Such a device may automatically position the support in response to control signals.

  • Patent number: 4680657
Abstract: A magnetically recorded signal on a magnetic recording medium is reproduced in response to a magnetic field produced thereby by applying a DC biasing magnetic field along the magnetic path of the core of a coil-supporting magnetic head, and adding a high-frequency magnetic field of a small amplitude to the DC biasing magnetic field. The DC biasing magnetic field is produced by passing a DC biasing current through a DC biasing coil on the core, and the high-frequency magnetic field is produced by passing a high-frequency current through another coil on the core.

  • Patent number: 4663850
Abstract: A moire simulator comprises a moire detecting pattern constituted by grating patterns having equal grating constants and equal grating shapes, and an angle scale. The moire detecting pattern and the angle scale are positioned on at least one transparent plate. The moire simulator is superposed on an original and rotated thereon to read a rotation angle with respect to the original, at which the extent of generation of a moire pattern is the lowest, by using the angle scale. A setting angle of a screen during screening at which the extent of generation of a moire pattern is the lowest is then calculated before a screening process is started.

  • Patent number: 4650175
Abstract: A sheet feeding mechanism for feeding individual sheets of material, such as for example microfiche folders, is disclosed which includes a tray mounted in a frame and having a pivoted bottom wall. A pair of sheet retaining claws are pivotally mounted on the tray and positioned at the corners thereof at the front of the open front edge of the tray to normally block movement of the sheet in a stack supported on the bottom wall from moving forwardly out of the tray. The bottom wall is spring biased upwardly, and an advancing device is provided for advancing individual sheets from the top of the stack. The advancing device includes a rotating cam having a sector shape enlargement formed thereon for engaging the top sheet of the stack as the cam rotates. The enlargement urges the stack downwardly against the spring bias on the pivoted bottom wall while also urging the top sheet in the stack in the direction of the rotation of the cam.

  • Patent number: 4642462
Abstract: In a radiation image read-out system, a stimulable phosphor sheet carrying a radiation image stored therein is two-dimensionally scanned with stimulating rays, with the main scanning being effected by use of a multifaceted mirror having a plurality of deflecting surfaces. Light emitted by the stimulable phosphor sheet upon exposure to the stimulating rays is detected and converted into an electric image signal. When any of the deflecting surfaces is inclined from its predetermined position, the electric image signal obtained from the scan line drawn by the inclined deflecting surface becomes incorrect. The electric image signal obtained from the scan line drawn by the inclined deflecting surface is corrected by use of a correction coefficient which is predetermined for each deflecting surface according to the amount of inclination from the predetermined position thereof.
