  • Patent number: 7510422
Abstract: Breakaway devices for use in a meter-pit environment that protect connections between components of an AMR system are described herein. In various embodiments, at least one cable is adapted to operably couple a first AMR device and a second AMR device, wherein at least one of the first AMR device and the second AMR device is disposed in a utility meter pit. In an embodiment, at least once connector adapted to operably couple the cable to the first AMR device or the second AMR device is constructed to be decoupleabe in response to a force that is less than the linear breaking strength of the cable. In another embodiment, the cable may be constructed to have a length equal to at least about twice the distance between the first AMR device and the second AMR device.

  • Patent number: 7507059
Abstract: A mechanical method for machining flexible panels, in particular panels with a complex shape, in which the panel to be machined is held fixed on its periphery on a rigid support, and a machining tool is applied against one of the faces of the panel and is controlled to perform the desired machining. The method includes at least counterbalancing the machining force exerted by the tool on the panel by applying a force approximately opposing the tool through an appropriate means of support on a face of the panel opposite the face where the tool is applied, with the means of support being independent of the tool.

  • Patent number: 7506549
Abstract: The load on an aircraft component, such as the load on a landing gear leg during braking, is measured with a contactless, all-weather displacement measuring system. The system includes a control unit a controllable microwave emitter of electromagnetic radiation and a microwave detector comprising a plurality of antennae. When the aircraft component is subjected to a load relative movement of the emitter and detector is caused. The detector generates in response to microwave radiation received from the focused beam of radiation emitted by the emitter a signal that is received by a signal processor of the control unit. The signal received by the control unit depends on the relative positions of the emitter and detector. The control unit is arranged to provide an output signal representative of the load sustained by the aircraft component. The system may be used to control braking in dependence on the output signal so as to maximize braking efficiency without overloading the landing gear leg.

  • Patent number: 7504798
Abstract: A controller for controlling a wiper unit including a wiper and an intermittent wipe cycle setting device for setting an intermittent wipe cycle of the wiper. The cycle setting device is set at a plurality of positions respectively corresponding to different intermittent wipe cycles. Further, the cycle setting device has a resistance value, which changes in accordance with each of the positions, and generates an output signal, which is in accordance with the change in the resistance value. The controller computes position information of the intermittent wipe cycle setting device from the output signal by using a learned value. The computer adjusts the learned value in accordance with the computation result of the position information to correct the position information. Accordingly, resistance value variances of the intermittent wipe cycle setting device are automatically corrected.

  • Patent number: 7503730
Abstract: A modular block wall system is comprised of a plurality of differently sized blocks. Each block comprises a front surface and opposing rear surface, a top surface and opposing bottom surface, and first and second opposing tapered side surfaces. Blocks further includes a recess extending inwardly from top surface and a protrusion extending outwardly from bottom surface. Blocks may also include a plurality of cores through the block from top surface to bottom surface. Blocks may further include a removable portion that can be cleaved off to create a decorative face on rear surface. The projection on each block is configured to fit within the recess of a block in the next lower course of blocks, regardless of the sizes of the respective blocks. Preferably, the varying lengths and heights of the blocks are evenly divisible by a uniform dimension. This allows modular blocks to be easily put together in any configuration to create a finished looking, yet non-uniform wall.

  • Patent number: 7505614
Abstract: A remote view station is communicatively coupled to an image server and receives a compressed version of source medical images. The remote view station uncompresses and displays the received medical image. A medical professional, such as a pathologist, can select a region of the displayed medical image. Region information is transmitted back to the image server that applies image analysis operations on a region of the source medical image that corresponds to the selected region of the compressed medical image. In this manner, the data loss that occurs during image compression does not effect the image analysis operations. As such, the image analysis operations produce more accurate results than if the operations were applied by remote view station to the uncompressed image.
