  • Patent number: 6579600
Abstract: A multilayer capacitor includes a unitary, net-shape molded dielectric ceramic body having first and second cavities molded into at least one side to divide the ceramic body into a plurality of ceramic layers disposed generally parallel to the top. The first cavities alternate with the second cavities in the ceramic body. Each of the ceramic layers except an uppermost and a lowermost of the ceramic layers is joined at one edge to one ceramic layer adjacent thereto by a first ceramic bridge and at the same or a different edge to another ceramic layer adjacent thereto by a second ceramic bridge. The first and second cavities are filled with one or more materials to form first and second electrically conductive electrode layers, respectively, each electrode layer being bonded to the ceramic layers adjacent thereto.

  • Patent number: 6561138
Abstract: A water heater is arranged with the hot water storage chamber R1 at the top and the combustion chamber R2 at the bottom within the body 11 which is a container. The combustion chamber R2 is equipped with the air supply inlet 13a, and the flame arrester 27 is provided at the air supply inlet 13a. Within the combustion chamber R2, the main burner 22 and the pilot burner 25 are provided, the changing state of flame of the pilot burner 25 is detected by the thermocouple 26, and a controller 41 closes an electromagnetic valve for opening and closing the main gas passage, stops the combustion of the main burner 22 as well, and rings the alarm 44. In an alternate embodiment, a sensor burner 60 is used as a safety device to detect a state of flame of the sensor burner and to shut off fuel to the main gas burner.

  • Patent number: 6557174
Abstract: An electronic quick change cartridge for a welding helmet. The cartridge base is formed of an optically dense polycarbonate or like material that acts as a passive filter to provide eye protection during the welding process. A port in the base receives a variable density LCD cell and a cavity formed in the base receives the electronics for driving the cell. Optical masks prevent light leakage through any interfaces of the structure. When low light levels are present, the welder views a work piece through an essentially transparent or slightly opaque LCD cell. When an arc is struck, the LCD cell darkens to a shade corresponding to the shade of the surrounding polycarbonate material. The welder then can view the work piece through the LCD cell and all the optically unobstructed portions of the polycarbonate base surrounding the LCD cell thereby to have an expanded viewing area during the actual welding operation.

  • Patent number: 6540504
Abstract: A main burner 22, a pilot burner 25, and a lead-in pipe 29 supplying combustion exhaust to the pilot burner 25 are arranged in a combustion chamber R2. A flame arrester 27 with small holes 27a is provided at a bottom plate 13. Furthermore, a primary thermocouple 26 detecting the flame state of the pilot burner 25 and a secondary thermocouple 28 detecting the temperature in the combustion chamber R2 are connected in series but with opposite polarities. When the flame arrester 27 clogs up with fine particles, the pilot burner 25, which sucks in combustion exhaust, performs abnormal combustion before the main burner 22, which is detected by the primary thermocouple 26 and the secondary thermocouple 28, whereupon the combustion with the main burner 22 is stopped. Thus, incomplete combustion due to blocking of the air supply path can be prevented.

  • Patent number: 6526725
Abstract: A straw application machine for automatically applying drinking straws, wrapped in protective cover, to beverage containers at very high speeds. The machine comprises a guide roller which presses each straw of a web of parallel straws into a slotted straw drum. A blade cutting drum separates the straws as it rotates in close association and synchronization with the slotted straw drum. A strip of sticky tape runs along the back of the web of parallel straws and a protective cover is removed from the tape exposing an adhesive prior to passing underneath the right side of the guide roller. After the straws are cut from the web, an ejector bar applies each straw to a beverage package where it is retained by the adhesive tape or glue. Multiple servo motors control the operating speed of the machine. Alternate embodiments for the slotted straw drum include a drum center having rubber ends with slots for holding a larger straw, and a drum center having end plates with inserts for holding straws.

  • Patent number: 6446475
Abstract: A switchlock assembly with snap-in cam for mounting in a panel from the front with the panel cutout being smaller than the cam radius. The switchlock assembly comprises a switch base, a shell, a plug operable by a key, the cam and a latch clip. The latch clip prevents the plug from being removed from the shell. The latch clip also secures the cam within the plug and prevents the cam from being removed, but does not prevent the cam from rotating when a key is inserted into the plug of the switchlock assembly and turned. Switch tumblers and tumbler splines enable a key to be pulled out in a designated position, but not to allow the key to be pulled out 180 degrees from the designated key pull position.

  • Patent number: 6443051
Abstract: It is an object of the invention to achieve an improvement in the operating reliability of a cooking controller and to extend its lifetime. A cooking controller (18) is provided within a casing (21), and an insulating material (22) for blocking out the heat emitted from an oil vat (3) is provided on the wall of the casing (21) on the side of the oil vat (3). A top opening (23) and a bottom opening (24) are provided in the top wall and bottom wall of the casing (21), and a cooling fan (25) is provided at an intermediate position within an air circulation route (29) from the bottom opening (24) to the top opening (23). The cooling fan (25) is operated and the generated flow of the air passing between the openings cools and insulates the heat emitted from the oil vat (3) towards the cooking controller (18). Thus, temperature increases within the cooking controller (18) can be inhibited, and operational reliability and the lifespan of the cooking controller (18) can be increased.
