  • Patent number: 6382247
Abstract: An intake relief valve comprises a bronze sectional gate positioned within the valve chamber adjacent to an outlet section of the valve. A quick attachment coupler of the valve connects the outlet section typically to a pumper fire truck, and a hose from a hydrant or draft source connects to an opposite inlet section of the valve. When the valve is closed and the hose is disconnected from the valve with the valve connected to the pumper fire truck, there is no water remaining in the valve chamber. Any residual water is released by a pit drainage outlet on the bottom wall of the valve. Not having water stored in the valve eliminates corrosion problems within the valve, when the valve is connected to the pumper fire truck.

  • Patent number: 6368222
Abstract: A universal joint having two or three degrees of freedom in rotation is disclosed which exhibits a small size, great rigidity and satisfactory accuracy. An end of a first node is connected to a base through a rolling bearing. A plurality of circular-arc guide bearings are disposed at positions opposite to the center line of the first node opposite to the base. A circular-arc rail formed around a cylindrical base is engaged to the circular-arc guide bearings. A shaft is disposed in a direction of the diameter which passes through the center of the circular arc of the circular-arc rail of the cylindrical base. A second node is, through a rolling bearing, joined to the shaft such that the center of rotation is positioned on the axis of rotation of the base.

  • Patent number: 6368510
Abstract: A method and apparatus for removing arsenic from water at point of entry or point of use particularly for residential application. The point of entry system comprises a first stage having a manganese greensand oxidizer to convert arsenite (As+3) present in the water to arsenate (As+5) and a second stage for passing the water through an anion exchange resin. Each stage includes a control head for automatic regeneration at a predetermined frequency. The manganese greensand is regenerated with a solution of potassium permanganate and the anion exchange resin is regenerated with a salt solution. An alternate embodiment for point of use application comprises a manganese greensand oxidizer cartridge to convert arsenite (As+3) to arsenate (As+5) followed by removal of the arsenate (As+5) with a reverse osmosis system.

  • Patent number: 6354192
Abstract: A discrepancy in the model setting between controllers is definitely detected. When it is judged at S4 that the setting is a split vat model, the procedure then goes to S5 for determining the cooking menu at the right oil vat, S6 for processing data to be transmitted to a burner controller, and S7 for processing data received from the burner controller. When it is judged at S8 that the setting of the burner controller is a full vat model because the temperature of a thermistor at the right oil vat received from the burner controller is an FFFFH level (equivalent to 3609° C.), the discrepancy in the setting is displayed for notification at S9. Then, the burner controller is instructed at S10 for extinction.

  • Patent number: 6351977
Abstract: An electrically operated, strong, security system comprising a lock with remote control installed in a wall adjacent to a door frame or under a door. The lock comprises at least one rod which extends into the door when the door is closed and in a locked state. In an unlocked state an actuator retracts the rods from the door, back into the door frame or into the floor. The security lock system provides a manual control for the lock inside a house or building along with indicator lights showing the lock status. An emergency DC battery provides power for the security lock if there is a primary power outage. • Patent number: 6345571
Abstract: A fryer having an overheat protecting means for carrying out an operation test properly, thus improving the utility of the fryer. When it is determined that a high limit test is being performed a burner controller examines whether or not the temperature measured by a thermistor exceeds a preset level for the test determined by a fryer controller. If not, the combustion is continued and the burner controller repeats the test for overheating protection. When the temperature exceeds the preset level the burner controller tries to keep the temperature between the preset level and the preset level plus alpha. This is followed by turning off a high limitswitch and notifying the fryer controller for displaying a high limit abnormality.

  • Patent number: 6345768
Abstract: A control valve for a vessel gas water heater includes a single governor for controlling a wider range of the flow of gas from pilot supply to main supply. Once an ignition knob 1 is pressed and turned to open the magnetic valve V1 and ignite the pilot burner PB, the magnetic valve V1 is maintained open by the electromotive force of a thermocouple TC heated by a pilot flame c. When the ignition knob 1 is released from being pressed, and turned further to open the plunger valve V3, the boiler is shifted to the standby state for enabling the supply of gas to the main burner MB. Meanwhile, a sensor rod B is mounted in a reservoir A for contracting and expanding depending on the temperature of the hot water in the reservoir A to open and close the snap valve V5, thus controlling the combustion and its cancellation in the main burner MB. Accordingly, the temperature of the hot water in the reservoir A can automatically be controlled in the vessel gas water heater.

  • Patent number: 6310428
Abstract: A piezoelectric switch comprising an end surface which when pressure is applied, causes a piezoelectric element to switch and generate an electrical signal. In addition, the piezoelectric element provides audible feedback to an operator activating the switch. The piezoelectric switch comprises a plastic housing having the piezoelectric element adhesively attached to an inside surface of a top portion of the housing. Two wires from the piezoelectric element connect to a printed circuit board which is placed adjacent to the piezoelectric element and wires from the printed circuit board extend through a cap for external connections. When the piezoelectric element switches, an output pulse having a predetermined pulse width is generated along with a signal which is fed back to trigger an oscillator connected to the piezoelectric element causing it to buzz, thereby providing audible feedback from the same piezoelectric element.

  • Patent number: 6305448
Abstract: To make coincide cutting centers of two end surfaces of raw wood with the axis of spindles of a veneer lathe, at least two axial corrections which are performed in a state in which the raw wood is held by centering spindles are required. Conventional apparatuses suffer from too complicated structures and enlargement of the cost because of the complicated structures. A correction operation of an axial direction of correction operations in the two axial directions is performed such that only a movable centering spindle is moved in a direction intersecting a direction in which holding arms are extended/contracted. Another correction operation in another axial direction is performed by extending/contracting the holding arms.

  • Patent number: 6295652
Abstract: A helmet sock for protecting a helmet wearer from cold weather conditions while snowmobiling, motorcycling, skiing and other like activies. The helmet sock attaches to the outside lower perimeter of a helmet by a strip of hook and loop material such as Velcro-type material. A strip of Velcro-type material is secured to the outside lower perimeter of the helmet by pressure sensitive adhesive and a corresponding strip is attached to the upper inside circumference of the sock. The sock comprises an adjustable flap at the rear of the helmet for making a secure airtight fit on the helmet. The sock prevents outside air from penetrating and retains the body heat of the wearer in addition to stopping snow and wind from entering the bottom of the helmet. When the weather temperature rises, the sock may be rolled up and stretched around the bottom of the helmet or simply pulled off the perimeter of the helmet.
