  • Patent number: 6726964
Abstract: A process for depositing metal on microparticulate comprising immersing microparticulate in an autocatalytic plating bath comprising the metal; inducing ultrasonic vibration in the plating bath at a frequency corresponding to resonance frequency of the microparticulate; and inducing a turbulent vibration signal in the plating bath in a direction non-parallel to the ultrasonic vibration. This process results in the autocatalytic plating bath depositing the metal on the microparticulate with uniform thickness. The microparticulate can be spheres, flakes or microfibers, and can be made from a number of materials, such as synthetic polymers (nylon, Kevlar™, Zylon™, and aramid fibers) and biodegradable compounds. A method is disclosed for coating a surface with metallized microparticulate fibers with an orientation perpendicular to the surface.

  • Patent number: 6720366
Abstract: This invention describes the use of higher fatty acid methyl esters, i.e. of methyl monoesters of fatty acids having a carbon chain of 12 C atoms or more, for example of rapeseed oil methyl ester, as solvent for the individual or both components of polyurethane binders for molding materials used in foundry technology, the components of which comprise a phenolic resin which contains free OH groups and a polyisocyanate as a reaction participant. The fatty acid methyl esters can be the sole solvent. However, they also can be used, at least for the polyisocyanate, together with a high boiling aromatic hydrocarbon, whereby the amount of the fatty acid methyl ester should exceed the amount of the hydrocarbon, and they can be used, at least for the phenolic resin, together with a solvent of higher polarity. The use of fatty acid methyl esters entails considerable benefits.

  • Patent number: 6717007
Abstract: An improved regiospecific synthesis of organic phosphonous acids, comprising of hydrophosphorylation of an olefin with hydrophosphorous acid in the presence of an inorganic persulfate, which acts as a source of free radicals at a pH ranging from 4.5 to 7.0, in which the orientation of addition is anti-Markonikoff. The process enables production of organic phosphonous acids at lower temperature and atmospheric pressure under milder pH conditions for better regioselectivity in hydrophosphorylation and obtain the phosphonous acid with good yield and purity following simple isolation procedure. Phosphonous acids obtained by the process are commercially valuable as effective detergents and wetting agents, lubricants and lubricant additives, plasticizers for plastics and resins, corrosion inhibitors, chemicals including insecticides and pesticides, cobalt extractants and as key intermediates for preparation of commercially important angiotensin converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitors.

  • Patent number: 6712367
Abstract: The invention is concerned with a device for clamping and releasing work tools (16) in a tool receptacle (10). The tool receptacle (10) includes on its free end for this purpose an open socket part (12), which is adapted for frictional engaging reception of the work tool shaft (14). The work tool shaft is thereby shrunk-fit into a borehole (20) in the socket part (12). For this purpose the socket part is provided with an induction coil (26) encircling the tool receptacle (10) which coil can be acted upon by high frequency alternating current for producing heat and heating the socket part (12). For avoidance of leakage fields which could result in a undesired heating of the work tool (16), it is proposed in accordance with the invention that the induction coil (26), on its surface adjacent the free end of the socket part (12), is covered over by a pole shoe (34) having a central through hole (36) for the work tool (16) and comprised of a magnetically conductive and electrically non-conductive material.

  • Patent number: 6698890
Abstract: A device for projecting a color image upon a screen, including color image recording and color image reproduction with an enhanced color reproduction trueness in comparison to conventional processes. In the device two images are recorded in parallel, which separately detect the shorter and the longer wavelength parts of the individual principle color spectral regions. In image reproduction six primary valences are produced, which respectively comprise the image information of the shorter and the longer wavelength parts of each of the individual principle color spectral regions. In an alternative embodiment the device produces a full color, stereoscopic image reproduction, in which the three primary valences of the respective shorter wave part encode a stereoscopic half image and the three primary valences of the respective longer wavelength part encode the other stereoscopic half image.
