  • Patent number: 7098695
Abstract: This disclosure is directed to techniques for reducing erroneous static logic signals when logic signals change relative to a clock signal within a dynamic to static logic converter circuit. Domino logic circuits, for example, utilize dynamic logic signals evaluated relative to a clocking signal. When dynamic logic signals are evaluated, logic signals propagate within logic circuits. Dynamic to static logic converter circuits possess logic signals used to generate static logic signals that change state at well defined points in time relative to a clocking signal used by dynamic logic. Use of a delay for a clocking signal by a latch circuit utilized to capture a dynamic logic signal for conversion to a static logic signal reduces logic level changes in static logic signals during times in which dynamic logic signals may be indeterminate.

  • Patent number: 7099642
Abstract: A carrier recovery method and apparatus using multiple stages of carrier frequency recovery are disclosed. A receiver uses multiple frequency generation sources to generate carrier signals used to downconvert a received signal. An analog frequency reference having a wide frequency range and coarse frequency resolution is used in conjunction with a digital frequency reference having a narrow frequency range and fine frequency resolution. The multiple carrier signals are multiplied by a received signal to effect a multi-stage downconversion, resulting in a baseband signal. A frequency tracking module measures the residual frequency error present in the baseband signal. The measured residual frequency error is then used to adjust the frequencies of the carrier signals generated by the multiple frequency generation sources.

  • Patent number: 7098708
Abstract: An MN counter with analog interpolation (“MNA counter”) includes an MN counter, a multiplier, a delay generator, and a current generator. The MN counter receives an input clock signal and M and N values, accumulates M for each input clock cycle using a modulo-N accumulator, and provides an accumulator value and a counter signal with the desired frequency. The multiplier multiplies the accumulator value with an inverse of M and provides an L-bit control signal. The current generator implements a current locked loop that provides a reference current for the delay generator. The delay generator is implemented with a differential design, receives the counter signal and the L-bit control signal, compares a differential signal generated based on the counter and control signals, and provides the output clock signal. The leading edges of the output clock signal have variable delay determined by the L-bit control signal and the reference current.

  • Patent number: 7095709
Abstract: Techniques for transmitting data using a number of diversity transmission modes to improve reliability. At a transmitter, for each of one or more data streams, a particular diversity transmission mode is selected for use from among a number of possible transmission modes. These transmission modes may include a frequency diversity transmission mode, a Walsh diversity transmission mode, a space time transmit diversity (STTD) transmission mode, and a Walsh-STTD transmission mode. Each diversity transmission mode redundantly transmits data over time, frequency, space, or a combination thereof. Each data stream is coded and modulated to provide modulation symbols, which are further processed based on the selected diversity transmission mode to provide transmit symbols. For OFDM, the transmit symbols for all data streams are further OFDM modulated to provide a stream of transmission symbols for each transmit antenna used for data transmission.

  • Patent number: 7095790
Abstract: Pilot and data transmission schemes for multi-antenna communication systems utilizing multi-carrier modulation are provided. Subband multiplexing is used to avoid interference resulting from transmitting multiple signals simultaneously from multiple antennas. M usable subbands are initially arranged to form multiple groups of subbands, with each group including a different subset of the usable subbands. Each of T transmit antennas is then assigned one or possibly more subband groups for pilot transmission and typically one subband group for data transmission. Pilot and data may then be transmitted from each antenna on the subbands assigned to that antenna for pilot and data transmission. For each transmit antenna, the transmit power for each assigned subband may be scaled higher such that all of the total transmit power available for the antenna is used for transmission. Pilot and/or data may be transmitted simultaneously from all T antennas on all usable subbands without causing mutual interference.

  • Patent number: 7095710
Abstract: Methods and apparatus to improve the speed and reliability of decoders are presented herein. Namely, a priori knowledge of Walsh space information is used to increase the speed at which messages are decoded. In systems where control messages contain transmission parameters of concurrently transmitted packet data, a faster demodulation and decoding of control messages allows a receiver to demodulate the packet data sooner, so that a shorter buffer is needed to store the received packet data. The receiver uses the Walsh space from the previous successfully decoded message to first decode the current message. If the decoding attempt is unsuccessful, the receiver then uses a neighboring Walsh space to decode the current message.

  • Patent number: 7092459
Abstract: In one embodiment, the invention is directed toward frequency tracking techniques using control symbols that include both pilot and non-pilot symbols. For example, both the pilot and non-pilot symbols can be used in estimating frequency error of a received signal. The contribution of non-pilot symbols to the estimation can be weighted according to a confidence level associated with each non-pilot symbol. In some cases, soft decisions are generated for the non-pilot symbols and then used with the pilot symbols for frequency tracking. In this manner, the frequency tracking loop can be improved.

  • Patent number: 7088955
Abstract: Techniques to acquire and track pilots in a CDMA system. In an aspect, frequency acquisition of a number of signal instances (i.e., multipaths) in a received signal may be achieved concurrently based on a frequency control loop (RAFC) maintained for each finger processor of a rake receiver. Upon successful acquisition, frequency tracking of acquired multipaths may be achieved based on a combination of a frequency control loop (VAFC) maintained for an oscillator used for downconverting the received signal and the RAFCs for the finger processors. In a tracking mode, the VAFC tracks the average frequency of the acquired multipaths by adjusting the frequency of the oscillator. The RAFC of each finger processor tracks the residual frequency error (e.g., due to Doppler frequency shift) of the individual acquired multipath by adjusting the frequency of a complex sinusoidal signal used in a rotator within the finger processor.
