  • Patent number: 8348673
Abstract: An arrangement and a method for studying the dissolution of particles in the air/blood barrier of the respiratory tract. A device for simulating the interaction of particles (203) delivered to the air/blood barrier of the respiratory tract comprises: a perfusion chamber (101) adapted to receive and deliver a flow of perfusion fluid; a semi permeable membrane (205) coated on one side with a barrier layer (204) adapted to interact with the particles; and a first sheet formed organ (202) having a surface distributed with the particles. The membrane (205) is arranged to be a fluid contact with the perfusion fluid, while the first sheet formed organ (202) is arranged to contact the barrier layer (204) of the membrane (205), in order to simulate the dissolution of the particles (203) in the air/blood barrier when perfusion fluid flows through the perfusion chamber (101), along the membrane (205).

  • Patent number: 8347525
Abstract: The invention relates to a spray drying system and a method for its operation that provides a composition of dry. or essentially solvent free, particles from a solution of an agent. The system comprises a generally vertical tube reactor arranged for counter-current removal of solvent from a process flow fed with aerosol droplets of solution descending from the top said reactor with an ascending gas flow. The reactor includes a perforated process tube for transportation of the process flow from the outlet of an aerosol generating device to a dry particle collecting device. A membrane sleeve essentially surrounds the peripheral area of said process tube and separates the descending process stream from the ascending gas stream. Vaporized solvent is transported from the process stream to the ascending gas stream. A reactor housing is sealingly covering said process tube and membrane sleeve and is provided with means for introducing and/or removing the process fluids.

  • Patent number: 8317812
Abstract: A lancet device includes a hollow housing defining a cavity and having a proximal end and a distal end and a slider slidable at least partially within the cavity along a longitudinal axis from an outward position to a pushed position. The slider extends outside of the cavity beyond the proximal end when it is in the outward position. A needle holder holding a needle is rotatable about and translatable along the longitudinal axis when moved from an initial position to an extended position. When the needle holder is in the initial position, the slider is in the outward position. When the needle holder is in the extended position, the lance extends beyond the proximal end. Sliding of the slider to the pushed position enables a first biasing member to urge the needle holder toward the extended position. A second biasing member can be present in the lancet device.

  • Patent number: 8282504
Abstract: A protective cover for a golf club, such as a driver or wood, is disclosed that remains in place during play to prevent scuffing, scratching, and the like of the surface finish. The golf club includes a head having a striking face portion and a non-planar body portion, and a shaft extending from the head. The protective cover includes a one-piece continuous polymeric film that closely conforms to the shape of at least a portion of the non-planar body portion of the golf club head, such as the entire crown, and a layer of adhesive adhering the polymeric film to the club head. The polymeric film preferably does not cover the face portion of the golf club head so that it has minimal impact on the performance of the golf club. A method of applying the protective cover to the club head is also disclosed.

  • Patent number: 8272142
Abstract: A hair dryer includes a body having an air inlet and an air outlet, a fan for generating air flow from the air inlet to the air outlet, a heater for heating the air flow, and an attachment secured to the body and in communication with the air outlet to receive the air flow. A plurality of openings through which the air flow blows is formed in a concave surface which is sized and shaped for receiving a convex-shaped hair brush. The body includes a base portion adapted to support the hair dryer in a vertical orientation on a horizontal support surface so that the dryer can be utilized with hands free operation. The body also includes a grip portion between the base portion and the attachment that forms a cylindrically-shaped hand grip. Vertical central axes of the attachment, the grip portion, and the base portion are coaxial.

  • Patent number: 8266929
Abstract: The pedestal isolator according to the present invention isolates a vibration source such as a front-loading washing machine from its surroundings. The vibration source is supported on elongated members that in turn are each supported on a pair of knife-edge supports. Ends of the elongated members are restrained from longitudinal movement. The distance between the pair of knife edge supports may be fixed or adjustable based on the expected vibration frequency.

  • Patent number: 8266981
Abstract: A motion transmitting cable assembly includes a cable having a conduit and a core longitudinally movable within the conduit, a core attachment secured to an end of the core, and a conduit abutment fitting having a main body secured to an end of the conduit and a guide tube extending from the main body and slidably receiving the core attachment therein. The conduit abutment fitting is formed of plastic and the guide tube is unitary with the main body so that the conduit abutment fitting is a molded plastic one-piece component. The guide tube is bendable so that the core attachment can pivot relative to the main body to account for rotational motion of the control member. The guide tube is preferably bendable at least 7 degrees in all directions with a bending force of no more than 4.5 N.
