  • Patent number: 4287391
Abstract: A microphone which uses noise-adaptive automatic output level control in speech recording. An input amplifier cooperates with a voltage doubler to form an automatic gain control. A diode and capacitor circuit provides for envelope detection of the signal which is then differentiated, amplified and detected to result in a DC control signal. This control signal is applied to an output amplifier which functions as a three pole Chebyshev filter in which a reduction of gain dampens one pole of the filter causing the response to drop off, so that the signal appearing at the output of the microphone has a substantially high speech-to-noise ratio. The output signal appears at a constant level where it may then be acted upon by the automatic gain control of an associated tape recorder connected to the microphone.

  • Patent number: 4284926
Abstract: Decorative lighting control is effected by a waveform generator which employs an up-down counter that is alternately stepped in up and down directions. Each time the counter reaches either the maximum or minimum count, it is loaded with a count value representing the width of a pulse to be generated and the direction of the count is changed. A source of the count value is provided by utilizing another up-down counter. The width modulated pulses which result are used to control lighting devices.

  • Patent number: 4278071
Abstract: A G.R.P. roofing panel is stiffened by longitudinal beams on its underside and is designed to span one pitch of a pitched roof from eaves to ridge. It has an outer skin and an inner impervious liner spaced therefrom and supported on the stiffening beams so as to form a tunnel open at both ends and extending from the vicinity of the eaves to the line of the roof ridge, where vents to atmosphere are provided in the outer skin. Air is convected upwards through the tunnel due to the heating of the outer skin by radiation from the sun, and a damper controls this flow of air. It can be arranged to operate differentially on air flowing in from outside the building and air flowing in from the roof space through a port in the liner. At the line of the ridge the liner meets and is sealed to the corresponding liner of a counterpart panel on the opposite pitch of the roof so as to maintain the integrity of the convection air circuit in each section of the roof.

  • Patent number: 4259800
Abstract: A display apparatus is provided comprising a plurality of spaced lights with reflectors operatively associated with the lights which are isolated from one another. A circuit is provided for actuating the lights for selected periods of time to create an appearance of sequencing. Shaped lenses having the form of alphabetic characters or the like are associated with the lights and are illuminated thereby to achieve a desired effect. The reflectors and seperators associated therewith are connected together in a monolithic structure. The reflectors are asymmetrically formed in the case of asymmetrically shaped alphabetic characters in order to direct the light most appropriately through the shaped lenses. Sequencing is provided by the use of a binary counter, the output of which selectively actuates the lights.

  • Patent number: 4254077
Abstract: A method for making decorative concrete blocks which have inlays and which are especially suitable for use as floor or patio tiles. The method involves two steps in which concrete with two different degrees of wetness is employed. As an initial step, a first form, which is configured to define the desired inlaid pattern, is placed on a support. The form is filled with a first charge of concrete, which has the lesser of the two degrees of wetness and is preferably colored, to produce a pattern for the inlay. Thereafter, the concrete in the first form is compacted whereafter the form is removed without delay and the material is allowed to harden. In a further step, a second form, which is configured and dimensioned to surround the concrete inlay pattern, is placed on the support. A charge of concrete with a greater degree of wetness is then poured into the second form until it produces a layer which surrounds the concrete inlay pattern.
