Abstract: A rearview mirror for a vehicle. The rearview mirror comprises a mirror housing having a bottom opening. A reflective element is located within the mirror housing, with the reflective element being configured to reflect an image having a reflecting component in a first direction out of the mirror housing. A light source is also located within the mirror housing. The light source emits light along a beam axis, with the beam axis having a directional component in a second direction. A deviator is configured to redirect the light emitted from the light source through the bottom opening of the housing. The first direction and the second direction are parallel and opposite.
Abstract: A non-contacting strain measurement method and system employs a laser light source for irradiating a test piece to provide a spectral pattern in spaced relationship from the test piece. The pattern is viewed while the test piece is placed under tension by a plurality of video cameras. The CCD video cameras are coupled to signal processing circuits which calculate the Poisson ratio according to the formula: ? xx = - ? ? ? A x 2 ? L 0 ? tan ? ? ? 0 .
Abstract: An automated apparatus for determining the calorific value of combustible substances employs an integrated, isothermal water reservoir to reduce the complexity of the apparatus and facilitates automation of the calorimeter by providing a convenient source of isothermal water. A moving divider is used to reconfigure the isothermal water reservoir to either provide for temperature equilibration prior to sample analysis or define a fixed volume of water during analysis in which high precision temperature measurements can be recorded. The apparatus includes mechanisms for controlling the moving divider, a sample holding combustion vessel, and loading, cleaning, and unloading the combustion vessel. This eliminates key analysis steps that had previously required manual intervention by an operator.
Abstract: The electronic component package of the present invention includes a sealed chamber; a liquid or gel contained in the sealed chamber; at least one electronic component disposed in the sealed chamber in physical and thermal contact with the liquid or gel; and at least one electrical conductor electrically coupled to the electronic component and extending out of the sealed chamber. The electronic component(s) may include any one or combination of a radiation emitter, a thermal or optical sensor, a resistor, and a microprocessor or other semiconductor component.
Abstract: A suspension system for suspending a vehicle frame above a plurality of ground-engaging wheels includes a wheel-carrying axle comprising a first end a second end, and a pair of frame bracket assemblies each comprising a resiliently-bushed pivotable connection defining a pivot axis, wherein the frame bracket assemblies are operably coupled to opposite sides of the frame bracket, and wherein the resiliently-bushed pivotable connection comprises a substantially cylindrically-shaped bushing. The suspension system also includes a pair of trailing arms each comprising a first end operably coupled to the first end and the second end of the axle, respectively, and a second end comprising an aperture that receives the bushing of one of the frame bracket assemblies therein, wherein the aperture of the second end of each trailing arm is nonsymmetrical, thereby causing a nonsymmetrical compression of the bushing about the pivot axis.
Abstract: A control system is disclosed for automatically detecting moisture on the windshield of a vehicle. The automatic moisture detecting system includes an optical system for imaging a portion of the windshield onto an image array sensor, such as a CMOS active pixel sensor. The voltage of each of the pixels which represents the illumination level is converted to a corresponding gray scale value by an analog digital converter. The spatial frequency composition of the gray scale values are analyzed to determine the amount of rain present in order to provide a control signal to control the operation of the windshield wipers of the vehicle as a function of the amount of moisture present. The system is also adapted to detect the level of fog both on the interior of the windshield as well as the exterior of the windshield.

Abstract: A device for cleaning golf balls and golf club heads, said device able to be releasably attached to a golf cart or worn or carried by a person playing golf. The device includes a generally rectangular sack having first and second opposed shorter edges and first and second opposed longer edges, the sack further comprised of first and second flexible panels joined along the outer edges thereof and enclosing an interior compartment located proximate to a shorter second edge thereof. An opening with fastener is located on the first panel over the interior compartment. A liquid impervious container is located within the interior compartment and includes an opening with surrounding fastener on a middle wall thereof. The opening of the container is co-aligned with the opening of the first panel. A flexible absorbent panel and flexible mesh panel are stored within the container, the flexible mash panel folded inside the absorbent panel.
Abstract: A storage cabinet assembly includes a housing including a pair of sidewalls, a rear wall, and a top wall that cooperate with one another to form a storage area, and a base assembly supporting the housing. The base assembly includes a top wall and a bottom wall that mate together to form an interior space, and a plurality of corner support brackets supporting the top wall from the bottom wall. The storage cabinet assembly further includes a drop-in drawer arrangement, and a drawer interlock assembly adapted to prevent multiple drawers from being simultaneously moved to an opened position.

Abstract: A calorimeter includes a bucket cover which is used to reconfigure an isothermal water reservoir to provide for temperature equilibration prior to sample analysis and subsequently define a fixed volume of water during analysis in which high precision temperature measurements can be recorded. The apparatus includes mechanisms for sealing and controlling the cover, and for coupling the combustion vessel to the cover while minimizing the thermal contact between them. Improved thermal isolation between the fixed volume of water and the surrounding environment is also achieved.

Abstract: An assembly for a framed system includes an elongated post and a mounting plate shaped for installation in a post channel of the elongated post. The elongated post includes a first rib integrated along an inner surface of the first lateral side and an elongated second rib integrated along an inner surface of the second lateral side. The mounting plate includes an aperture for receiving the fastener and includes a first slot for receiving the first rib and a second slot for receiving the second rib. When the mounting plate is installed in the post channel, the first and second ribs are deformed by the installation of the mounting plate such that the deformed first and second ribs retain the mounting plate in the post channel.
Abstract: The present invention relates to a coating plant, especially a vacuum coating plant, with a charging lock, especially a rectangular vacuum lock for a coating chamber, with a lock aperture (13) having a length of at least 1000 mm that comprises a shutter (6) for closing and opening the lock aperture and a latch (7) to secure the shutter, wherein there are provided means for moving the shutter and the latch from a first open position to a second closed position, and vice versa, these means assuring also that the movements of the shutter (6) and the latch (7) will be coupled with each other in such manner that the shutter (6) will be automatically secured by the latch (7) after the shutter has been closed and will be released again before it is opened.

Abstract: A method of making a wound field for a brushless direct current motor, direct current generator, alternating current motor or alternating current generator, includes providing a base mold having an engagement face with at least one movable end turn form. A number of distinct phases is determined and at least one strand of conductive material is wound around at least one movable end turn forming tool per distinct phase. One conductive coil is created from each strand of conductive material for each distinct phase. Each conductive coil is formed into a configuration that indicates the number of poles required. Each conductive coil is then placed onto an insertion instrument. The insertion instrument and each conductive coil are inserted into a stator core. The insertion instrument is removed from the stator core, and the stator core is installed into one of the aforementioned motors or generators.
