  • Patent number: 4096726
Abstract: The invention relates to an improved method and apparatus for tube drawing which relates to the use of a floating plug and die arrangement, the necessary draughting tension in the tube being drawn being generated by a rotatable tube block around which the tubing downstream of the die is wrapped. The invention proposes to mount a tube guide upstream of the die in such wise that the relative spacing between the guide and the die can be a minimum during threading-up of the die but increased during drawing.

  • Patent number: 4096380
Abstract: A system for transmitting light signals between a missile and a missile control launching site is provided by utilizing a laser beam light signal transmission path. The system comprises a laser emitter having a relatively broad transmission beam for producing a transmission path for the modulated light signals during the flight of the missile. The system obviates the need for light transmission lines or other physical connection between the missile and the control station and provides for continuously aiming the laser beam on the missile by means of a follow-up device responsive to a portion of the beam reflected from the missile. At least one crown of triple mirror reflectors is distributed about the axis of the missile to enable the missile to reflect the laser beam impinging thereon independently of the flight position of the missile. The laser beam is modulated to transmit control light signals from the control station and information light signals from the missile.

  • Patent number: 4092875
Abstract: The invention is concerned with a method of and apparatus for the continuous drawing of metal tubing by the die and floating plug method using rotating drawing blocks to provide draughting tension. Tube lengths are processed joined end-to-end in sequential stages with accumulators provided between adjacent dies to permit the receipt of tubing from the upstream die and the supply of tubing to the downstream die to be at different rates. Each joint between lengths is broken upstream of a die but remade downstream thereof, the accumulator absorbing and supplying tube from/to adjacent blocks while the tube rejoining process is effected.

  • Patent number: 4083345
Abstract: A rotary distributor fuel injection pump is provided with a main high pressure pumping chamber and an auxiliary high pressure pumping chamber which have a common inlet and outlet passage. The pumping plungers in said pumping chambers operate in unison to generate simultaneous high pressure pulsed charges of fuel within the pumping chambers. Both pumping chambers are connected to deliver their high pressure outputs simultaneously to the output passage for delivery sequentially to each of the cylinders of an associated engine. A speed responsive valve controls the delivery of the output from the auxiliary pumping chamber to the common outlet passage and isolates the auxiliary chamber from the common inlet and outlet passage without impairing the connection of the main pumping chamber with the common inlet and outlet passage when engine speed reaches a predetermined level.

  • Patent number: 4081319
Abstract: A continuous, essentially closed recirculating papermaking process is provided by using a dispersing medium of adjustable viscosity. The process permits the continuous reuse of the medium under preferred operating conditions. It includes the steps of forming a dispersion of fibers within the adjustable medium containing a pH sensitive viscosity producing agent, reducing the fiber consistency and the viscosity within the dispersion while maintaining the concentration of the agent substantially unchanged, subsequently forming a fibrous web material on a papermaking screen from said dispersion of reduced fiber consistency while separating the dispersing media from the fibers forming the web and continuously collecting the separated media and recirculating it within the system to effect a subsequent fiber dispersion as well as a fiber consistency reduction and viscosity reduction without substantially changing the concentration of the viscosity producing agent.

  • Patent number: 4079719
Abstract: A fuel injection pump including a charge pump for delivering discrete pulses of high pressure liquid fuel sequentially to the several cylinders of an associated engine is provided with an angularly adjustable cam ring to control the timing of the pumping strokes. The position of the cam ring is controlled by an advance piston, the position of which is controlled by a hydraulic pressure correlated with engine speed. A load sensing piston, engageable with one end of the advance piston above a fixed amount of timing advance, is subjected to the pressure of the metered fuel down-stream of the metering valve which controls the quantity of fuel delivered by the pump to urge the advance piston in a direction to retard the timing of the pumping strokes to result in a timing control system in which the timing is more advanced at high speeds and light load than it is at high speeds and full load.
