  • Patent number: 4655705
Abstract: A power burner adaptable for use in conjunction with a wood burning stove employs a blower to produce a forced flow of air and a fuel valve which provides selective fuel communication with a fuel nozzle. Forced air and fuel is mixed in the nozzle and propelled through the nozzle outlet along a generally unidirectional exit path. A target is spaced from the nozzle outlet and interposed in the exit path. A heating assembly which is spaced from the target heats the target to a temperature sufficient to ignite the mixture traversing the exit path. A blast tube surrounds the target and forms an axially extending passageway which functions as a combustion chamber and a passageway for propelling the combusted fuel through an outlet opening of the blast tube. The burner is automatically controlled by an electronic controller.

  • Patent number: 4648299
Abstract: A tear-open strip is severed from a band of material having a width equal to the desired length of the tear-open strip by cooperation between a stationary knife-edge defining member and a pivotal knife-edge defining member. The knife edges form chords of a hyperboloid of revolution and are inclined relative to one another. The pivotal knive-edge defining member is provided with suction ports adjacent to the cutting edge whereby a severed strip may be transported by the knife to an intermittently moving sheet of packaging material to which the strip is subsequently bonded.

  • Patent number: 4648235
Abstract: Cigarettes are transferred by a rotatable device from the exit ends of guide channels in a receiving funnel to a device which arranges the cigarettes in layers for subsequent formation of cigarette blocks to be wrapped. The rotatable transfer device consists of a drum provided with spaced groups of cigarette receiving grooves on its periphery, the receiving funnel and the layer-forming device being generally oppositely situated with respect to the drum and being vertically separated whereby gravity feed to and discharge from the drum may be effected. A mechanism for insuring that cigarettes will be fed from the receiving means to all of the grooves of each group on the drum at the same time is associated with the drum.

  • Patent number: 4645072
Abstract: A container carrier adapted for receiving a plurality of containers for transportation of same is assembled from a unitary sheet of plastic. The containers are captured between retainer edges of transverse members forming a supporting web at the lower portion of the carrier. The panels function to clamp the containers in position upon seating of the containers in the carrier. In a filled configuration the carrier is supportable on a plurality of legs which are configured to cooperate with the transverse members for retainably capturing the containers.

  • Patent number: 4642557
Abstract: A predetermined amount of erosion of a material conveying conduit or the like is detected by inserting a probe in the conduit wall, from the side opposite to that subjected to the wear, to a predetermined depth. The probe comprises an insulated conductor which is in electrical contact, at the base of the blind hole, with the conduit. Wear of the conduit down to the level of the probe may be determined by periodic continuity measurements, a lack of continuity indicating that the inserted end of the probe has been exposed.
