Abstract: A method for identifying, suppressing, and reversing epileptogenesis, which is considered to be a learned response due to brain plasticity. The method includes identifying three epileptogenic conditions, neuronal hyperexcitability, spatial overconnectivity, and temporal overconnectivity. A treatment that accounts for each of these conditions is then be administered to the subject to reverse, or “unlearn,” epilepsy.

Abstract: The present invention is a coil array for an MRI system that is designed to improve 2D accelerated imaging of an object having significantly different fields of view in two phase-encoding directions. This is achieved by having a first set of coil elements whose sizes are tuned to optimize acceleration along a first phase-encoding direction and a second set of coil elements whose sizes are tuned to optimize acceleration along a second-phase encoding direction. Images acquired in accordance with the present invention exhibit improved signal to noise ratio at a given acceleration factor when compared to images acquired using a traditional MR coil array.

Abstract: A system and method for communicating wirelessly from a mobile device to a remote receiver station is disclosed. The system includes a controller configured to monitor a status of the mobile device and, upon an initiation event, initiate a data transfer process to wirelessly communicate data to the remote receiver station. The system also includes a voice-band modem that, upon initiation of the data transfer process is configured to receive data for transfer to the remote receiver station, divide the source data into a collection source packets, and encode the data using a fountain code encoding protocol to form a series of encoded packets. The voice band modem is also configured to transmit the series of encoded packets to the remote receiver station as a burst including all of the source data and repeatedly transmit the encoded packets until receiving an indication that the series of packets including all of the source data has been received at the receiving station.

Abstract: An apparatus for securing a cover over an opening defined in a housing of a portable electronic device includes a pair of latches along opposite edges of the cover. Each latch assembly has a cap affixed to the cover and partially housing a latch that is slideable therein. Each latch is biased by a separate spring into a first position, at which a tab on that latch projects from the cap and engages the housing. An actuator on each latch extends outside the respective cap for engagement by a user to slide the latch into a second position in which the associated tab is retracted from engaging the housing.

Abstract: A platform specific test for computing hardware and method using same, wherein the method supplies a plurality of test procedures, and provides a computing device to be evaluated, where the computing device comprises (M) physical objects. The method identifies, for each value of (i), an (i)th physical object disposed in the computing device. The method then determines, for each value of (i), if the plurality of test procedures comprises one or more test procedures associated with the (i)th physical object. If, for each value of (i), the plurality of test procedures comprises one or more (i)th test procedures associated with the (i)th physical object, then the method adds, as one or more (i)th test procedures, the one or more test procedures associated with the (i)th physical object to a test algorithm, and saves that test algorithm.

Abstract: A system and method for decomposing more than two materials in an imaging object includes performing a CT imaging acquisition of a portion of an imaging object using at least two energy levels to acquire imaging data associated with each of the at least two energy levels. A total mass attenuation of the imaging data is expressed as a weighted sum of constituent element mass attenuation coefficients and an effective atomic number and density of the constituent elements in the portion of the imaging object is determined by one of a number of methods. Accordingly, concentration of the constituent elements in imaged object is determined by solve the expression using known material attenuation coefficients and the measured CT data.

Abstract: A system and method for producing an image of a functional tissue slip interface using MRI. The method includes applying an external stimulus to a subject to impart relative shearing motion at a tissue interface. NMR signals are then acquired from a ROI including the slip interface using a motion encoding gradient to sensitize the acquired NMR signals to the shearing motion. MR images indicative of the degree of mechanical shear connectivity at the tissue interface are reconstructed from the acquired NMR signals in which low-friction shearing motion at the tissue interface is characterized by a loss of magnitude signal due to intravoxel phase dispersion.

Abstract: In one form, the cable termination has a tubular body with an opening into which an end of the median barrier cable is inserted. A wedge gripper includes three sections for gripping the end of the median barrier cable within the tubular body. The wedge gripper has a tapering outer surface that mates with a tapered inner surface of the tubular body and has a toothed inner diameter. A threaded cap is screwed to an end of the tubular body opposite from the cable opening, such that the threaded cap forces the tapering outer surface of the wedge gripper axially against the tapered inner surface of the tubular body to force the toothed inner diameter of the wedge gripper to contract against three lobes of the median barrier cable to grip the median barrier cable.
