  • Patent number: 8230976
Abstract: A pallet truck including a controller that calculates the height of the fork carriage without the use of mechanical devices such as switches or sensors. A calculated carriage height is derived by adding the amount of time that a carriage is commanded to be raised and offsetting that by the amount of time that the carriage lower button is depressed. The calculated carriage height is essentially an accumulated lift time where the time that the carriage is lifting is a positive value and the time that the carriage is lowering is a negative value. When these values are combined, the result is the present calculated carriage height. The controller further monitors the calculated carriage height such that if the carriage is too close to the ground, the maximum speed of the pallet truck is limited to prevent damage to the forks or ground due to striking or scraping between them.

  • Patent number: 8234444
Abstract: A method to select a deduplication protocol for a data storage library comprising a plurality of data storage devices configured as a RAID array, by establishing a normal deduplication protocol, a RAID failure deduplication protocol, and a multiple storage device failure deduplication protocol. The method receives host data comprising a plurality of interleaved data blocks. If the system is operating without any storage device failures, then the method processes the host data using the normal deduplication protocol. If the system is operating with a storage device failure, then the method processes the host data using the RAID failure deduplication protocol. If the system is operating with multiple storage device failures, then the method processes the host data using the multiple storage device failure deduplication protocol.

  • Patent number: 8229199
Abstract: An image reconstruction method applicable to a number of different imaging modalities including magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), x-ray computed tomography (CT), positron emission tomography (PET), and single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT) is disclosed. A sparsifying image is reconstructed from a series of acquired undersampled data to provide a priori knowledge of a subject being imaged. An iterative reconstruction process is further employed to iteratively determine a correction image for a given image frame that, when subtracted from the sparsifying image, produces a quality image for the image frame.

  • Patent number: 8226359
Abstract: A variable guide vane actuator for positioning the guide vanes of a turbine engine in a hypersonic missile uses compressor exhaust to drive a linked, floating piston assembly that is coupled to the guide vanes. The relatively low pressure compressor exhaust is metered by a valve to drive the piston arrangement to accurately position the guide vanes in proportion to the input control signal. Reliability and accuracy gains are achieved by inhibiting the effects of vibration and thermal distortion through the elimination of piston/bore contact, the use of a rigid, cantilevered mounting arrangement and cooling with the pre-combusted liquid fuel.

  • Patent number: 8230396
Abstract: A method is disclosed to debug a computer program. The method provides a computer program comprising source code, and a listing of that source code. The method further provides a computing device comprising a data storage medium, and stores the computer program in that data storage medium. The method then runs the computer program, and subsequently detects an error condition. The method creates and saves to the data storage medium a dump file comprising (N) save areas. Using information abstracted from the dump file and the source code listing, the method reproduces the source code execution at the time the error condition was detected.

  • Patent number: 8227036
Abstract: A method of making a heater structure and a corresponding heater structure are disclosed. The method comprises providing a porous reinforcement material such as glass cloth, applying a metal to the porous reinforcement material such as by spraying and applying resin to the porous reinforcement material with metal already applied thereto to make the structure substantially rigid. Applying the metal to the porous reinforcement material before applying the resin provides a number of advantages such as enhanced shear strength between the porous reinforcement material and the applied metal layer and the ability to manipulate the porous reinforcement material with metal applied thereto prior to applying the resin. The heater structure may be used in many applications, some of which arc described.

  • Patent number: 8225951
Abstract: A pressurizable chamber device or containment vessel and method of use thereof. The device or vessel includes two chamber portions, a lid portion and a base portion, drawn to one another via a nut portion. The lid and base portions each include concave surfaces that matingly fit together, such that an internal chamber is formed when these portions are fit together. The lid and base portions each include a flange having a groove therein, such that a flexible seal element is fittable into the groove. The lid and base portions include features to matingly engage the nut portion, such that engagement thereamong draws the lid portion and the base portion toward one another, tightly sealing the formed internal chamber. A pressure, such as a resin pressure that may be precisely regulated, may then be applied, for example, to a mold contained within the formed and tightly sealed chamber.

  • Patent number: 8225818
Abstract: A valve arrangement includes a valve body with a bore within which a spool slides to control fluid flow between first and second ports. The bore has an annular recess into which the first port opens and in which is located a check valve band formed by a strip with overlapping ends. Pressure in the first port causes the check valve band to contract and expand circumferentially to open and close the first port. A stop is located near one end of the strip and is engaged by the other end to limit the amount of contraction of the check valve band. Thus the diameter of the check valve band cannot contract smaller than the diameter of the bore, thereby retaining the check valve ring in the annular recess. The check valve band optionally has a plurality of tabs projecting from each edge and engaging side walls of the annular recess.

  • Patent number: 8221316
Abstract: A combination suction retraction instrument for surgery is disclosed. The suction retraction instrument includes a retractor including a body, a suction nozzle secured to a distal end of the body, and means for retaining a suction tube adjacent the retractor. The suction tube is connected to a vacuum source for removing fluids and debris from a surgical site. The means for retaining the suction tube is secured to the body. The means for retaining the suction tube is structured to allow the suction tube to slide within the means for retaining the suction tube upon manual pulling of the suction tube by a surgeon. A proximal end of the suction nozzle is dimensioned to engage a distal end of the suction tube in a sealing relationship thereby providing a suction flow path from an opening of the suction nozzle into the suction tube.
