Abstract: The instant invention is directed to a molecular sieve comprising a carbonaceous substrate selected from the group consisting of molecular sieve carbon, calcined coconut char, oxidized and devolatilized agglomerated coal, calcined agglomerated coal and calcined agglomerated coconut char, impregnated with an organic polymer having a molecular weight of at least 400, as determined by vapor phase osmometry, or with an inorganic polymer at a dosage of at least 0.001 weight percent (based on the substrate weight) up to a maximum dosage which still allows the resulting sieve to separate gas or liquid mixtures containing components of at least two different molecular diameters, molecular weights or molecular shapes.The instant invention is also directed to a process for preparing the molecular sieve and to a process for using it to separate gas or liquid mixtures.
Abstract: The instant invention is directed to carbon molecular sieves which are capable of separating gas or liquid mixtures containing components of at least two different molecular diameters, molecular weights or molecular shapes, said molecular sieve having an average effective pore diameter of from about 3 to about 20 Angstroms and having specified oxygen diffusivities and selectivity ratios.The instant invention is also directed to a process for preparing carbon molecular sieves having average effective pore diameters of from about 3 to about 20 Angstroms which comprises continuously feeding an agglomerated naturally occurring substrate to a continuous transport type heating means and calcining said agglomerated substrate in a substantially oxygen-free environment under a cocurrent purge of an inert gas at a temperature range of about 250.degree. to 1100.degree. C. for at least 1 minute.
Abstract: The instant invention is directed to a method for preparing free-flowing, water-soluble polymer gels comprising:(a) reducing the size of water-soluble polymer gels by a size-reduction means, so as to produce polymer gel particles which are less than 1/2 inch in their longest dimension; and(b) adding to the size-reduced polymer gels of Step (a) 0.001 to 20 percent, by weight, of an amphipathic compound, thereby reducing the adhesion of said gel particles to themselves and other substances.The instant invention is also directed to a free-flowing, water-soluble polymer gel admixture comprising:(a) size-reduced, water-soluble polymer gel particles, wherein said gel particles are less than 1/2 inch in their longest dimension; and(b) an amphipathic compound.

Abstract: This invention relates to new organic compounds that are prodrugs of the antiviral agent Ara-A which is 9-(.beta.-D-arabinofuranosyl)adenine. These compounds by virtue of their high lipid solubility will penetrate the stratum cornium and on entry the enzymatic cleavage will regenerate the antiviral compound Ara-A.

Abstract: The invention relates to the use of an acid anhydride incorporated as a latentiated catalyst in poly(ortho ester) and other polymers such that upon exposure to aqueous environments the acid anhydride generates the corresponding acid which catalyzes the matrix erosion. The releasing rate of a loaded drug substance incorporated into or surrounded by the poly(ortho ester) or other polymers can be controlled in that the drug is released as the poly(ortho ester)s or other polymer is eroded by action of the acid anhydride incorporated therein.
