  • Patent number: 7571635
Abstract: An engine knock detection system for a vehicle engine includes a controller receiving an input indicative of strain applied to an engine component and an output for providing a signal indicative of engine knock. A sensor may be associated with the engine that measures operating parameters of the engine (i.e., strain, for example) to allow the controller to detect and identify engine knock. The sensor may include a Surface-Acoustic Wave (SAW) sensor, such as, for example, a double-SAW sensor that concurrently detects engine torque.

  • Patent number: 7565845
Abstract: An index torque measurement system is provided. The system includes a blocker ring and a source, of index torque. The source of index torque applies a varying amount of index torque to the blocker ring to allow smooth indexing of the blocker ring teeth with synchronizer sleeve teeth. The system includes a synchronizer sleeve drivable to overcome the index torque to engage the blocker ring. The system further includes a measurement system that measures the force to overcome the index torque based on a load required to drive the synchronizer sleeve into engagement with the blocker ring given the applied index torque.

  • Patent number: 7566209
Abstract: A peristaltic pump assembly for moving a working fluid. The pump assembly includes an expandable fluid that changes in volume due to the presence of a magnetic and/or electric field. The pump assembly also includes a flexible member interposed between the working fluid and the expandable fluid. The pump assembly further includes a field generator operable to cause the expandable fluid to change in volume by applying the magnetic and/or electric field to the expandable fluid. This, in turn, moves the flexible member to increase the pressure of the working fluid to thereby move the working fluid.

  • Patent number: 7559874
Abstract: A shift mechanism for a transmission in a vehicle includes a housing, a shift lever, a key cylinder and an actuator. The actuator operably connects to the key cylinder and is capable of movement between a first position that prevents the shift lever from changing shift positions, and a second position that allows the shift lever to change shift positions.

  • Patent number: 7561996
Abstract: A dimensioning apparatus for generating a dimensional drawing from a model includes an element database with predetermined element names. A plurality of model elements can be associated with corresponding element names. The apparatus also includes a model sectioning tool operable to section the model to thereby generate at least a portion of the model elements. The apparatus further includes a dimensioning tool with a plurality of predetermined dimension names and a plurality of dimensioning algorithms associated with corresponding dimension names. At least two of the model elements are utilized by each of the dimensioning algorithms to thereby automatically detect dimension values of the model. The dimensioning tool is further operable to associate the detected dimension values with corresponding ones of the dimension names. In addition, the dimensioning apparatus includes a plotting tool operable to output the dimensional drawing showing the dimension values of the model detected by the dimensioning tool.

  • Patent number: 7555822
Abstract: A themial insulation method for an internal surface of an injection molding casting die includes forming a thermal insulation blanket on the internal surface using laser cladding. One or more layers of a metal material having suitable thermal emittance and melting point characteristics is applied to the internal surface using laser cladding. Because the impact area of the injected molten metal is subject to greater stress and temperature gradients than the remainder of the surface, laser cladding can be used to apply the thermal insulation blanket only to areas that require additional protection.

  • Patent number: 7545111
Abstract: A method for testing electric motor shut-off including injecting current into an electric motor, applying at least one of a short or an open to the electric motor for a predetermined length of time, calculating the rate of decay of the current and comparing rate of the decay with a predetermined decay criteria. In one implementation, a predefined sequence of opening and short circuiting the electric motor is used, and the shut-off path tests for the motor three phases can be verified with one test.

  • Patent number: 7543666
Abstract: A tray has a bottom panel for supporting a battery. An inner panel projects upwardly from the bottom panel to provide an inner locator for the battery. A retainer holds the battery down on the bottom panel. A lock member for the retainer is moveable from an unlocking position to a locking position, and when moved to the locking position forces the retainer inwardly. The retainer has an abutment engageable with the battery to move the battery inwardly against the upright panel when the retainer is moved inwardly. Two fulcrum points in the retainer cause a vertical force to hold the battery in place by a lever effect of the lock member and fulcrum points.
