  • Patent number: 4180963
Abstract: An adjustable rope halter for horses and a kit for assembling the halter. The halter is formed from a single length of rope shaped to form a headstall having a headband loop releasably engageable with a clasp. A noseband is defined by upper and lower nose loops and a lower jaw loop is engaged with a halter ring on the lower nose loop. The clasp is engageable with the headband for mounting the halter on a horse's head when the noseband is engaged with the horse's nose and the headband is passed around the back of the horse's head.

  • Patent number: 4180452
Abstract: A method for hydrogenating coal to produce benzene and other gas and liquid products. In the process, the coal is pulverized and dried, and then saturated with methanol. The methanol saturated coal is slurryed in benzene and the slurry is exposed to microwave energy of a frequency and for a period of time sufficient to effect hydrogenation of the coal. The benzene liquid effects an immediate quench and the hydrogenation products are collected and separated. The principal product of the hydrogenation is benzene. Unreacted coal and char may be recycled or subjected to gasification with steam and oxygen to produce synthesis gas which can be converted to methanol.

  • Patent number: 4165791
Abstract: A weight switching mechanism for a substitution type analytical balance is provided which permits the automatic selection and lifting of the required substitution weights from the gimbal assembly of a balance beam to allow accurate weighing of an unknown mass. A capacitive/electromagnetic feedback device is provided for sensing changes in the relative balance of the beam with respect to the applied unknown mass. The resultant current is applied to a force coil which maintains the beam in null position. A current related signal is converted to a digital input signal which is applied to a memory and control circuit and electronically displayed. A series of electromagnets, mounted below a printed circuit board and positioned to correspond with each substitution weight, is provided. The printed circuit board is arranged to lift upon release of the balance beam.

  • Patent number: 4155860
Abstract: A lubricant additive composition for use with petroleum base lubricant media. The additive is formed of an admixture of about 1 to about 3 parts by weight copper metal flake or powder particles having a size of about 1 to about 2 microns, about 2 to about 4 parts by weight chromium metal flake or powder particles having a size of about 1 to about 2 microns, about 1 to about 3 parts by weight zinc metal flake or powder particles having a size of about 1 to about 2 microns and about 2 to about 4 parts by weight molybdenum disulfide particles having a size of about 1 to about 2 microns. The additive is admixed with a petroleum base lubricant in the weight ratio of from about 0.001 to about 0.015 parts by weight additive per part by weight lubricant medium. The lubricant and admixed additive, when utilized in an internal combustion engine, increases the engine compression and reduces noxious emissions.

  • Patent number: 4142315
Abstract: A fishing rod holder and hook setting device embodies a fishing rod holder tube mounted for vertical swinging rotation on a support housing adapted to be ground anchored in a fixed position. A ratchet wheel mounted for rotation within the support housing is interconnected with the holder tube by clock springs which, when under tension, tend to rotate the holder tube upwardly toward a vertical position. Catch members adapted for selective engagement with the ratchet wheel are provided to selectively apply a desired tension to the springs by repeated oscillatory rotation of the holder tube. A friction latch releasably retains the holder tube in a downward, relatively horizontal position, against the action of the clock springs.

  • Patent number: 4121427
Abstract: The present invention relates to a method for setting pilings, and to apparatus for use in conjunction therewith. More particularly, the invention relates to a new and improved method for temporarily setting and holding a piling in place for subsequent filling, packing and setting of material surrounding the ground imbedded portion of the piling. The present invention finds particular, but not necessarily exclusive utility in connection with setting pilings in frozen ground such as arctic tundra.

  • Patent number: 4118002
Abstract: A connecting apparatus connects a wet dry vacuum cleaner in a vertically spaced relationship with a solution tank. Cleaning solution is dispensed from the solution tank to the article to be cleaned, such as a carpet, and thereafter extracted from the article by the wet dry vacuum cleaner. The connecting apparatus allows a pre-existing vacuum cleaner to be combined with the solution tank, or allows the vacuum cleaner to be disassociated from its associated apparatus of the cleaning solution - extraction type cleaning apparatus. The connecting apparatus itself comprises a plurality of elongated arm members extending essentially from a common connection point, and bracket members are attached to each arm member to contact the vacuum cleaner and solution tank for retaining the vacuum cleaner and solution tank in an essentially vertically spaced relationship.

  • Patent number: 4102424
Abstract: A tag wheel lift includes first and second brackets, spaced longitudinally and provided with inner and outer legs, with the former being attached to a mounting plate by spacing blocks which provide clearance for nuts for pivot bolts which extend through the legs. One end of a leaf spring for the corresponding tag wheel is pivoted on a bolt or pin extending between the lower ends of the legs of the first bracket, while the other end of the spring is pivoted between a pair of lower links, at the lower rear corner of a rearward offset. A hydraulic cylinder is pivoted on the first bracket, while the piston rod thereof is pivoted between the movable ends of a pair of upper links, on the same pivot which connects the upper links with the lower links.

  • Patent number: 4097213
Abstract: Apparatus for producing a curled food product by extruding gelatinous cereal grain meal includes a mechanism for adjusting the extrusion space between two complimentary frustroconically shaped die surfaces of die extrusion members. One die member is maintained in an axially or longitudinally stationary position while the other die member is moved axially or longitudinally with respect to the stationary member. As a result, the space between the complimentary die surfaces may be adjusted to control the cereal grain extrusion process. Adjusting the extrusion die includes longitudinally adjusting a second frustroconically shaped die surface in face-to-face relation with a first complimentary and frustroconicaly shaped die surface in order to adjust the separation space therebetween.
