  • Patent number: 4702766
Abstract: A method of producing a hot, carburized metallized iron product in a generally vertical shaft furnace having an upper reducing zone in which iron oxide reacts with a gaseous reductant, and a lower carbon control and product discharge zone, including: establishing a gravitationally descending iron oxide burden in the furnace; reacting hot gaseous reductant with the descending burden to form a metallized iron product and a reacted top gas; and injecting a hydrocarbon gas mixture consisting of hot reformed endothermic gas and cool natural gas to the product discharge section of the shaft furnace; whereby the carbon content of the metallized iron pellet product is controlled by mixing the endothermic gas and natural gas in the proper ratio to balance the endothermic and exothermic reactions within the discharge zone of the furnace.

  • Patent number: 4644524
Abstract: A communication system for simultaneous exchange of signals between first and second stations in which a timing signal of low frequency alternately switches a first station between receive and transmit with equal time periods and simultaneously switches a second station between transmit and receive with the same time periods. During a receive period, signals for transmission are delayed until the next transmit period. During the transmit period, the delay signal is combined with the signal occupying the transmit period. The combined signal along with the timing signal is transmitted by the first station to the second station, after which the first radio station switches to receive under control of the timing signal. The second station under the control of the same timing signal now transmits a similar combined signal which is received by the first station for processing.

  • Patent number: 4598185
Abstract: A centrifugal switch for preventing overspeed of a rotary shaft driven by an electrical motor is arranged to open the electrical circuit to the starting windings at a predetermined speed of rotation. A split slip ring arrangement is engaged by metallic conducting elements urged into the conductive position by a compression means, which, when the compressive force is overcome, allows the contacts to move outward from the slip ring, to break the electrical contact. The critical rotational speed can be readily adjusted by changing the weight of the metallic conducting elements or by changing the tensile force of the compression spring.
