  • Patent number: 6176606
Abstract: An axially elongated extruder screw includes a screw body having an axially extending extruding portion defined by a feed section at an inlet end of the screw, a metering section at an outlet end of the screw and a barrier section between the feed and metering sections. At least one helical primary flight extends about and is coaxial with the screw body. The primary flight and the screw body cooperate to form a channel in the feed section for conveying resinous material to the barrier section. The barrier section includes at least one helical secondary flight extending from the primary flight about the screw body which in turn defines a first surface of revolution between the primary and secondary flights. At least one helical tertiary flight is positioned between the primary and secondary flights and also extends about the screw body which defines a second helical surface of revolution between the secondary and tertiary flights.

  • Patent number: 6127468
Abstract: This invention describes the use of novel blocked mercaptosilanes, wherein the hydrogen atom of the mercaptan functionality has been substituted, in filled polymers. The blocked mercaptosilanes described are unique in that they allow the mixing of fillers with organic polymers to proceed while remaining inert toward coupling to the polymer. The coupling reactions of these blocked mercaptosilicon compounds are triggered by addition of an appropriate deblocking agent, which preferably is tetramethylthiuram monosulfide.

  • Patent number: 6120404
Abstract: A motor mounting apparatus supports a motor relative to a base for relative rotation about a pivot axis to control tension in an endless loop driving element. A driving element emcompasses a drive member driven by the motor about a drive member axis and a driven member coupled to a load and driven by the driving member about a driven member axis to transmit power from the motor to the load. The apparatus includes a threaded shaft rotatable by a user about a shaft axis. The shaft axis is fixed relative to a first of the base and motor. A rider is carried by the threaded shaft so that rotation of the threaded shaft about the shaft axis produces longitundinal translation of the rider along the shaft axis relative to such first one of the base and motor. A rigid link has a first end pivotally coupled to the rider and a second end pivotally coupled to a second one of the base and motor.
